Chapter 318: This Is a New Low for You (2)

Rosemary stepped out of the police station using the hidden exit, trembling from her recent meeting with her husband’s mistress. So many emotions filled her chest, and she had difficulty reining her feelings. She looked at her companion and forced a smile on her face.

"Did I do well?" She asked Uncle Shark.

Uncle Shark had been there for her from the moment she regained consciousness. The man rarely spoke and didn’t like striking conversation with anyone except when Adrienne was around. He would only leave her side whenever Adrienne sent him for an errand only he could do.

Uncle Shark would also opt to eat instant noodles as the Zhao estate’s cook and household helpers would alienate him. He always had an intimidating expression, keeping everyone at arm’s length. It seemed to Rosemary that he only respects Adrienne and Reese, while Uncle Shark tolerates Hunter and Lennox to some extent.

Rosemary scolded them and asked them to treat him better, but Uncle Shark claimed he wasn’t bothered by any of it. In the end, Rosemary arranged for the kitchen to prepare another meal whenever they served them hers. She ensured he would stop eating those instant noodles whenever he was in their household.

Uncle Shark glanced at Rosemary and chuckled. He had an amused smile on his face. They had an odd friendship others didn’t fail to notice. Rosemary had questioned him several times about his real name, but he always dodged answering it every time.

"You did very well. I’m sure Miss Addie would be pleased once she heard what happened." He replied.

Rosemary sighed in relief. Adrienne was supposed to come here and be the plaintiff of the case, but when Rosemary heard from Uncle Shark a week ago what her daughter was up to, she confronted Adrienne and volunteered to do it herself.

Adrienne was conflicted and didn’t give her mother immediately. She discussed the plan with her brother and Uncle Reese, not wanting to subject her mother to further trauma. However, with Rosemary’s insistence, Adrienne and Hunter finally agreed, with the promise of Rosemary not being left alone whenever she steps out in public.

Two cars were waiting for them, and they immediately went inside one of them before it drove away. The media were eagerly waiting outside the station, trying to gather any information about the case.

Rosemary couldn’t bear to face them yet, so Uncle Shark and the police arranged a secret exit for them. They managed to slip away unnoticed, thanks to their clever planning. Uncle Shark’s team had prepared decoy cars to throw off any potential paparazzi or stalkers. They were safe for now.

As the car drove farther away from the chaos outside, Rosemary couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. She felt a sense of accomplishment, knowing she had done something for herself, her family, and, most importantly, her children. She could finally move on from the pain and betrayal haunting her for years.

Uncle Shark noticed the change in her mood and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You did good, Lady Zhao. Don’t worry about anything else now. Just focus on healing and moving forward." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Rosemary smiled gratefully at him. She felt the warmth and comfort of his presence. She couldn’t believe the depth of her husband’s betrayal, how long he had been lying to her, how he had turned their marriage into a sham. She felt embarrassed, humiliated, and furious, yet a part of her was strangely exhilarated.

She turned to Uncle Shark, who was stoically driving the car.

"Uncle Shark, can I ask you something?"

"Of course, Lady Zhao." Despite his harsh tone, Uncle Shark had always been polite with Rosemary.

"Do you think I... I don’t know, did I do the right thing?"

Uncle Shark didn’t look at her, but his voice was gentle.

"Your husband violated your trust and your marriage vows. You have the right to defend your honor and dignity. What you did today was brave and commendable."

Rosemary smiled weakly. "Thanks, Uncle Shark. I just hope... I hope this is all worth it."

"It will be. Just trust Miss Addie. I have never met a woman as cunning and devious as your daughter. If it wasn’t for your striking resemblance, I would have thought Lewis Jiang had her with another woman."

Rosemary laughed. She wasn’t offended by Uncle Shark’s words at all.

"I’m so lucky to have her as my daughter; too bad I cannot say the same thing to Addie. I failed her in so many ways." She said with a weak smile.

"But you are trying to do better now. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Are you okay?"

Rosemary nodded. She was grateful to Uncle Shark’s team for their support and protection. She didn’t know what she would do without them.

"I’m okay. I just need some time to process everything."

She looked out the window, watching the cityscape blur past them.

As they pulled up to the Zhao estate, Rosemary saw Adrienne and Hunter waiting at the door. They rushed to her, enveloping her in a group hug. Rosemary felt tears prick in her eyes. She was so lucky to have such wonderful children.

Rosemary’s eyes wandered to Uncle Shark as they pulled away from the embrace. He was standing by the car, observing them with a stoic expression. She suddenly wanted to thank him properly for all he had done for her and her family.

"Uncle Shark?" Rosemary called out to him.

"Yes, Lady Zhao?" He replied, turning to face her.

"Thank you... for everything. I am truly grateful for all the help you have given us."

Uncle Shark simply nodded his head in acknowledgment.

Rosemary could tell that he wasn’t used to receiving gratitude or recognition. She took a deep breath before continuing, "I know you never speak much, but... if there’s anything you need or want, please don’t hesitate to let me or Adrienne know. We want to repay you for everything you’ve done for us."

Uncle Shark’s expression softened for a brief moment before returning back to his usual stoic self. "I don’t need anything, Lady Zhao. You don’t need to compensate me for anything since Miss Addie has given me more than enough."

Rosemary couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sadness as Uncle Shark walked away. She couldn’t imagine what kind of life he had led to make him so distant and guarded. As she entered her home, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to Uncle Shark than meets the eye. She made a mental note to ask Adrienne about him later.

As she turned back to her children, she knew that there was a long road ahead of them, but she was ready to face it head-on.

"Are you alright, Mom? Did Camilla try to do something to you?" Adrienne asked, worry lacing her voice.

Rosemary nodded and held her daughter’s hand. "Everything went according to plan, Addie."

"Mom, you should have waited for me. What if Cayden was there and decided to hit you? You raised that bastard yourself, but look how he repaid you." Hunter frowned.

Rosemary smiled softly at her son.

"I know, Hunter. But I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to take control of my life and stand up for myself." She replied, her voice firm. "And besides, I had to do this for myself. I couldn’t let Lewis and Camilla get away with what he did to us."

Adrienne and Hunter hugged their mother again, feeling proud of her for taking action and finally standing up for herself.

"This is just the beginning. I won’t allow them to hurt you anymore" Rosemary said, exhaling a deep breath.
