Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 317: This Is a New Low for You (1)
Camilla couldn’t utter a single word before Rosemary. This was the very person she wanted to kill, yet, with Rosemary staring at her with clear, dark eyes, Camilla couldn’t deny the things she’d done against her.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" Rosemary teased, a sly smile playing on her lips. She had expected Camilla’s reaction before she entered the room.
Camilla’s heart raced as she struggled to find the right words, realizing that her desire for revenge had been overshadowed by despair.
She finally managed to stammer, "I... I didn’t do it. That nurse is lying!"
There was no way she would admit what she’d done to Rosemary. Acknowledging that she bribed Nurse Chen to induce and keep Rosemary in a coma would surely ruin her life and humiliate the rest of the Jiang family.
Rosemary’s smile faded as she looked at Camilla with pity and disgust. Initially, she felt terrible because she married Lewis when she knew he wasn’t entirely over with Camilla.
When her husband returned to her with Cayden after Hunter’s disappearance, she willingly accepted the boy and treated him well because of her guilt. Now, Rosemary realized her guilt was unfounded. Her husband and Camilla had planned to end her and her children’s lives from the very beginning.
"You really expect me to believe that?" she asked, her voice low and dangerous. "I know what kind of person you are, Camilla. You’re so desperate for power, so consumed with jealousy, that you’ll stop at nothing to get what you want."
Camilla’s face twisted in anger. How dare Rosemary judge her like this? She had worked hard to get where she was today and wouldn’t let anyone take that away from her.
"You even harmed my children just to get where you are now. Do you think I will let you off so easily?" Rosemary shot her a scathing glare, so unusual from a gentle and calm woman everyone knew.
Adrienne had refused to tell her everything that happened during her coma. But Uncle Shark was kind enough to fill in the gaps and discovered that the Jiang family tried to marry off her daughter to the Gu family by having Adrienne defiled by Young Master Gu.
As a mother, how could Rosemary stand by and let someone harm her children? She was fiercely determined to protect her daughter and seek justice for what had been done to her. Rosemary vowed to do whatever it took to ensure that the Jiang family faced the consequences of their actions. She wouldn’t be deterred, even if her treacherous husband begged on his knees.
"I did what I had to do," she spat, her eyes blazing. "You were always in my way, Rosemary. Always hogging the spotlight, always getting Lewis’s and everyone’s attention. I couldn’t take it anymore!"
Rosemary shook her head, her eyes filled with sorrow. She’d never thought Camilla would go to that extent to ruin her marriage with Lewis. Camilla allowed herself to be kept as his mistress, and Rosemary couldn’t believe Camilla would harm her young children to take her place as Lewis’s wife.
When Rosemary thought about it, she couldn’t help but feel betrayed and angry. She was angry at her husband and Camilla but was also upset with herself for allowing her children to suffer. She couldn’t help but blame herself for not seeing the signs earlier and protecting her children from the pain they experienced.
"You’re sick on the head, Camilla," she said softly. "You need help."
Camilla laughed bitterly. "You’re the one who needs help, Rosemary. You’re weak, and you always have been."
Rosemary’s expression hardened. "You think you can just take everything from me and get away with it?" she said, her voice as cold as ice. "You think you can bribe people, hurt people, and still come out on top? Well, Camilla, you’re wrong. Because I will make sure everyone knows the truth about you."
Camilla’s eyes widened in horror as she looked at Rosemary. She’d never seen Rosemary act like this before.
"As for Lewis, don’t worry. You can keep my trash wholeheartedly. I wouldn’t want him back anyway. He doesn’t deserve to be called the father of my children." Rosemary said, unconvinced of Camilla’s claim of innocence. She could see the anger growing in Camilla’s eyes.
"You know what I think?" she said, taking another step forward. "I think you’re jealous. Jealous of me, what I have, and what I’m capable of."
Camilla’s eyes widened in shock. Had Rosemary always seen her that way? As someone envious of her? She tried to speak, but Rosemary interrupted her.
"I didn’t think you had it in you, Camilla," Rosemary said, a hint of amusement in her voice. "But I must admit, this is a new low for you." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Camilla felt her face flush with embarrassment and shame. She had never felt so exposed in her life. For her rival to belittle her like this, her anger only grew stronger. She refused to let Rosemary have the last word.
"You think you’re so perfect, Rosemary. But you’re not. You’re just as flawed as the rest of us," Camilla retorted, her voice shaking with anger. "And as for Lewis, you would never have her back. Even if you force him to return to you, he’ll come crawling back to me eventually."
Rosemary’s eyes narrowed. "What made you think I want him back? I don’t want him back, Camilla. He’s all yours."
Camilla could feel her blood boiling. How dare Rosemary act so superior? How dare she make fun of her like that?
Suddenly, Rosemary’s hand shot out and slapped Camilla across the face. Camilla stumbled back, her hand flying to her cheek.
"You bitch!" she spat, her eyes filling with tears.
Rosemary stepped closer, taunting Camilla.
"The only bitch I could see is you, Camilla. Aren’t you aware of it? I slapped you, so what? What are you gonna do? Cry to Lewis? Isn’t that what you’ve been doing all along? Shed a few tears to make him do things your way?"
The lady detective stood up and got between the two ladies. She gave Rosemary a warning and convinced her to step back.
But Camilla was no longer listening. She was filled with a rage she had never felt before. Without thinking, she lunged at Rosemary, fists flying. However, before she could land a hit on Rosemary, Rosemary was quick to dodge, swiftly sidestepping and pushing Camilla away.
Camilla stumbled, her face reddening with anger and humiliation. She glared at Rosemary, her fists clenched tightly.
"You’ll regret this, Rosemary," Camilla said through gritted teeth. "I’ll make you pay for this."
Rosemary shook her head. "The one who would pay for misdeeds would be you, Camilla. You think I’m weak and you are better? At least I didn’t indirectly send my daughter to a man’s bed only for her to be defiled and humiliated."
Camilla glared at her furiously. For Rosemary to hit her sore spot. Elise’s misfortune three years ago was still her Achilles heel.
With that, Rosemary turned and walked away, leaving Camilla lying on the ground, disheveled and humiliated. Camilla couldn’t believe what had just happened. She’d never felt so powerless, so helpless. As she lay there, gasping for breath, she knew things would never be the same.
