Cayden was astounded upon hearing his father’s plan.

"What? Do you want Kristoff to spy on Addie? That’s a bit extreme, don’t you think?" Cayden asked, feeling uneasy about the plan.

"It’s necessary, son," Lewis replied, reassuringly touching his son’s shoulder. "We need to know what she’s planning and capable of doing. This company is our legacy; we can’t let Addie ruin it. Your grandfather approves of it. He didn’t care what would happen to Addie later since she was the one who made an enemy out of us."

Cayden nodded, still feeling unsure about the whole thing. But he knew better than to argue with his father.

"But Dad, what if Kristoff sees our plan and decides to betray us?" Cayden asked, worried.

Lewis placed a reassuring hand on his son’s shoulder. "Kristoff is a businessman, just like us. He understands the importance of loyalty. And besides, he isn’t someone who would easily succumb to the charm of a woman."

Meanwhile, Adrienne was getting ready for dinner with Kristoff and Lennox. She wore a simple yet elegant black dress that complimented her curves perfectly. As she put on her makeup, she couldn’t help but wonder what Kristoff wanted to talk about. She had a feeling it wasn’t just about business.

"Are you ready, Addie?" Lennox asked. He easily agreed to Kristoff’s invitation when Adrienne called him after leaving the company.

"Yes." Adrienne couldn’t help but notice how handsome he looked in his suit.

Kristoff was already there when she arrived at the restaurant, waiting for her and Lennox. He stood up as they approached and gave Lennox a pat on his shoulder before gesturing to them to sit.

"You know, Nox. You keep on surprising me. When I heard about your accident, I was worried you couldn’t make it, but I’m glad you did. But I would have never imagined you’d marry before me and Gav."

"You made it sound like he was a monk before me, Mr. Fu," Adrienne said as she sipped her non-alcoholic drink.

"That’s because Lennox rarely hung out with us back in uni. He would rather accompany Gavin during his basketball games than go clubbing with us. I’m glad to see he’s finally branching out." Kristoff chuckled, taking a sip of his wine. "But back to the topic at hand. I’m sure you’re wondering why I invited you both here tonight."

Adrienne and Lennox nodded in agreement, curious about what Kristoff had to say.

"Well, as you might already know, I have a lot of connections in the business world. And I happen to know a few people who are interested in acquiring the Jiang Corporation." Kristoff’s eyes flickered with excitement as he spoke.

Adrienne frowned, not liking what he was implying.

"But you want to destroy the company, aren’t you?" Kristoff asked with a smile as if they were talking about today’s weather and not the future of the Jiang Corp.

"Yes," Adrienne admiited. There was no point denying what Kristoff had just said.

"Have you considered selling off the company rather than seeing it ruined? You would earn so much by selling it off." Kristoff continued to probe.

"I don’t want to give them any chance to get back what they’ve lost. It doesn’t matter if the company is liquidated or merged with others as long as they don’t get it back." Adrienne replied, her tone firm.

Kristoff nodded, seeming to understand her motives. "Very well, but I must warn you, Miss Jiang. Destroying a company and liquidating it are two very different things. Liquidation means you still have something to sell, something to gain from. But destroying it means you’ll end up with nothing. Is that really what you want?"

"Money is the last thing Adrienne is lacking, Kristoff." Lennox reminded him.

Kristoff let out a laugh.

"Ah, yes. How could I forget? You are Lennox’s wife, and everything he has is yours."

Adrienne shook her head. Did people really think she was with Lennox because of his money?

"I won’t allow any disrespect towards my wife, Kristoff." Lennox’s tone suddenly changed. "My wife runs a profitable company that she started from scratch, and she never asked me for money aside from the business deal we used to have. If my wife wants to destroy the Jiang Corporation, I will make it happen. It’s not every day Addie asks me for something, and I’m willing to give whatever she would ask."

Kristoff raised his hands in surrender, his smile still visible. "I apologize, Lennox. I didn’t mean to offend your wife. I was merely pointing out some possibilities she might have overlooked."

Lennox scoffed. He didn’t think Adrienne would overlook those possibilities. Adrienne had spent most of her waking moment hating the Jiang family that she’d devised several schemes to get even with them.

Adrienne was taken aback by Lennox’s words. She had never heard him talk like this before. She knew he loved her, but this was something else. She reached out and placed her hand on his, reassuringly squeezing it.

"Anyway," Kristoff continued, "I have a proposition for you. Why don’t you sell the company to me? You’ll get a fair price, and I’ll ensure that the Jiang Corporation’s legacy will be wiped for good."

Adrienne shook her head. "No, thank you. I appreciate the offer, but I have to decline."

What Lennox said earlier was right. She had no need for money out of Jiang Corporation. She only wanted it to go down and went bankrupt. The company’s end should have happened long ago had her mother not saved it.

Kristoff sighed. "Very well. It was worth a try. But I hope you know what you’re doing, Miss Jiang."

"I do," Adrienne replied firmly.

After dinner, Adrienne and Lennox left the restaurant. Adrienne couldn’t help but think about Kristoff’s offer as they walked towards Lennox’s car. She knew she had made the right decision in declining.

"Do you regret declining his offer?" Lennox asked, sensing her hesitation.

Adrienne shook her head. "No, I don’t. I know what I’m doing."

Lennox nodded, understanding her completely. "I believe in you, Addie. Whatever happens, I’m here for you."

Adrienne smiled, feeling grateful for her husband’s words. She didn’t need the money, but if possible, she would like to stay by her husband’s side forever.
