Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 289: Overcome Her Demons (2)
"I’m here for you, Addie. Always," Lennox whispered. "I won’t let anyone hurt you."
Adrienne looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. "Thank you, Lennox. I’m so lucky to have you."
She didn’t want to think about Alistair anymore and wondered how long her nightmares would persist. Adrienne hoped that with Lennox by her side, she could find the strength to overcome her demons and leave Alistair’s memory behind. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she was determined to move forward and find peace within herself.
Lennox smiled at her and brushed her hair away from her face. "I’m the lucky one, Addie. I love you more than anything in this world."
Adrienne wrapped her arms around him and held him close. She knew that she had escaped Alistair’s clutches, but the memory of him still haunted her. But with Lennox by her side, she knew she could face anything.
Together, they lay in bed, holding each other and finding comfort in each other’s arms. As the night wore on and the moon slowly passed across the sky, Adrienne felt herself drift off to sleep again, feeling safe and loved by her husband.
However, in the following days, Adrienne was obviously under the weather. Her mood was somber, and she lacked her usual energy and enthusiasm. Lennox grew concerned, wondering if there was something more troubling her than just the lingering memory of her nightmares. He gently approached Adrienne, asking if she wanted to talk about what was bothering her and assuring her that he was there for her.
"Addie, is something the matter?" He asked, worried that his wife’s condition might worsen if she kept everything inside.
Adrienne stood beside the window, her eyes boring on the gray sky outside. It has been raining non stop these days. Adding to the gloomy atmosphere. The sound of raindrops hitting the roof seemed to mirror the heaviness in her heart, intensifying her feelings of unease.
Her nightmares persisted to haunt her at night, and she wondered if it was time for her to come clean to her husband. Adrienne could see the uneasiness in Lennox’s eyes, and she hated that she was the reason for his worry. She knew she couldn’t hide her secrets, as they were slowly tearing their relationship apart.
"I have to tell you something, Len," she started, rubbing her arm out of habit whenever she was distressed. "I know it might not be easy to believe what I’ll say, but I hope you’ll listen with an open mind. I’ve been carrying this burden for too long, and it’s eating away at me. Please understand that I never meant to hurt you, but keeping this secret has been tearing me apart."
Lennox went to his wife and drew her gently into his embrace. It hurt him to see Adrienne like this. He could feel the weight of her words and the pain she had been carrying. No matter how cold he was to the world, he would always be gentle to his wife. He didn’t care if his enemies deemed Adrienne his weakness because he was determined to protect her at all costs.
"Tell me so I can understand," he murmured. "I want to help you, Addie."
"Actually, Len, I wasn’t planning to tell you about this. I doubt you will believe what I’ll say. It’s my secret. Something that no one knew except me. However, I’ll accept your decision whether you believe me or not. You may divorce me immediately if you want, and I will respect it."
Lennox was taken aback. Just how profound was Adrienne’s secret for her to suggest divorce carelessly like this? He would not want to divorce her, no matter what her secret was. However, he could see how serious Adrienne was.
"I don’t know what you’ll do or think once you hear this secret of mine, but I know I should be upfront and honest with you as your wife." Adrienne said with a hint of hesitation in her tone.
"You might have investigated my background after we met, and instead of getting answers, you only got more questions in the end." She continued.
Lennox nodded. What Adrienne said was true. He couldn’t understand many things about Adrienne, but he never forced her to reveal anything she wasn’t ready to share. He believed in giving her the space and time to open up on her own terms. However, curiosity gnawed at him, and he couldn’t help but wonder what kind of secret could leave her with such a heavy burden.
Lennox remained silent and looked at her. The QinSi elite guards couldn’t find the answers, and he knew Adrienne could only provide the clarity he needed. Adrienne had mumbled incoherent words during her night terrors, giving him a glimpse of her secrets. However, he didn’t dare jump to conclusions without hearing what she would say.
"You might also be curious, like Gavin, about how I would know whether or not startup companies were profitable to invest in and why I hold a deep grudge against Alistair Han.
Adrienne’s eyes met Lennox’s, her expression guarded yet filled with a hint of intrigue.
"Addie, you don’t have to tell me if you aren’t ready. You don’t need to force yourself to do this."
Lennox knew this wasn’t easy for his wife, and he didn’t want her to feel pressured or obligated to share her reasons. He respected her boundaries and understood that she would open up when ready. Lennox reached out and gently squeezed Adrienne’s hand, silently reassuring her that he was there for her no matter what.
Lennox would rather not hear these secrets if it made her feel pain because he valued Adrienne’s well-being above his own curiosity.
But Adrienne shook her head and gave him a bitter smile. She didn’t want to feel alone anymore. She wanted to love Lennox with all her heart.
"It’s not a coincidence at all, Len. I knew several events would happen because I’d already experienced them once. Lennox, I have died once and returned in time to relive my life again."
