Chapter 288: Overcome Her Demons (1)

"Tell me, Addie. Who do you belong to?"

Adrienne knew that voice like the back of her hand. Her entire body trembled as the man before her moved closer.

"I belong to no one." She replied nervously.

The cup the man held fell on the cold floor and was crushed next to her. Only then did Adrienne realize she was slumped on the floor. The man’s eyes bore into her, filled with anger and possessiveness. Adrienne’s heart raced as she desperately searched for an escape route, knowing she needed to find a way out before it was too late.

She lifted her gaze and met Alistair’s cold, hard stare. He towered over her, his towering figure casting a dark shadow that made her feel trapped and helpless. She knew Alistair had always been possessive of her, but she had never seen him this angry. His eyes bore into her so intensely that she felt like she was drowning under his gaze.

"I’m asking you again, Adrienne. You better give me the right answer. Who do you belong to?"

Adrienne knew she was dreaming. This was yet another nightmare from the past. She hadn’t had one since the eve of her marriage with Lennox, and she had hoped they were finally behind her. But here she was, reliving the suffocating control Alistair had over her. The memories flooded back, reminding her of the life she had escaped from.

She was sure this was nothing but a dream because the last thing Adrienne remembered was falling asleep after having an intense night with her husband. As she tried to shake off the remnants of the nightmare, Adrienne reminded herself that her marriage to Lennox was nothing like her previous relationship. Lennox had shown her love, support, and respect, unlike Alistair, who had only sought to control and manipulate her. Despite the unsettling dream, Adrienne knew she was safe in the arms of her loving husband.

Unlike her previous nightmares, Adrienne’s eyes met Alistair’s with defiance.

"I belong to no one." She repeated her answer.

"You belong to me, Addie. You always have, and you always will." Alistair said, his voice low and menacing.

Adrienne’s heart pounded as she tried to inch away from him. She knew that Alistair was not a man to be taken lightly, and she also knew that he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

"You don’t own me, Alistair. I belong to no one." Adrienne said, her voice shaking with fear.

Alistair’s grip on her tightened as he pulled her closer to him. She could feel the heat emanating from his body, and his cologne filled her nostrils.

"You’re mine, Addie. Don’t you remember?" He hissed, leaning down to whisper in her ear.

Adrienne shot him a glare. She’d been weak in her previous life, but not anymore.

"You are delusional if you think I would want someone like you."

Alistair roughly grabbed Adrienne’s chin, forcing her to look at him. "You’re mine, and I won’t let you go."

She resisted, but she couldn’t get away from his tight grasp. Adrienne could only show him how defiant she was about accepting him.

"Not anymore."

"You will do as I say, Addie. Or there will be consequences." Alistair spoke, his voice low and threatening.

Adrienne knew that she had to get away from him. She had to find a way out before it was too late. With all the strength she could muster, she pushed Alistair away from her and fled from the room.

As she ran down the hallway, she could hear Alistair’s voice echoing behind her. She knew that he wouldn’t give up that easily.

Adrienne could hear Alistair chuckling in the dark hallways. She couldn’t even see what was before her, but she continued to run.

"You can run, Addie, but you can’t hide. You are mine now, and there’s no escaping me."

He laughed menacingly, making Adrienne break into a cold sweat. She knew this was a dream, but Adrienne had no idea how to wake up. She wanted nothing but to return to Lennox’s side. She didn’t want to be trapped in this nightmare any longer. As she sprinted down the dimly lit corridors, Adrienne’s mind raced, desperately searching to outsmart Alistair and find her way back to reality.

Adrienne finally saw a glimmer of light at the end of the hallway. She ran towards it with all her might, hoping it was the way out. As she got closer, the light grew brighter, and soon, she stood before a door. With trembling hands, she pushed it open and stepped through.

To her relief, she found herself in her bedroom, with Lennox sleeping peacefully beside her. Adrienne sighed in relief and collapsed onto the bed, grateful to be back in the safety of her reality. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

But just as she was about to close her eyes and drift off to sleep, Adrienne felt a cold hand wrap around her ankle. Alistair’s voice whispered in her ear, "You thought you could escape me, Addie? Think again. I will always be here, waiting for you in your nightmares."

Adrienne screamed and sat up in bed, drenched in sweat. It had all been a dream, but the fear and anxiety lingered. She turned to Lennox, who was now awake and looking at her with concern.

"It’s okay, Addie. I’m here. You’re safe," he whispered, pulling her into a tight embrace.

Adrienne clung to him, grateful for his comforting presence. She knew she was safe in his arms and that Alistair was a distant memory.

"’I’m sorry," She murmured against her husband’s chest. Just as she thought she had managed to keep her nightmares at bay, they came rushing back to haunt her. The memories of Alistair’s cruelty and the trauma he had inflicted on her seemed to resurface, threatening to shatter the peace she had found with Lennox. But she was determined not to let him control her anymore.

"Hush, Addie. There’s nothing to apologize for, baby." Lennox kissed the top of her head and rubbed her back in circles.

Whatever Adrienne was dreaming of, Lennox knew it had deeply affected her. He vowed to be there for her, to support her through her nightmares and anything else she may face.
