Chapter 272: Burn It Into Flames (2)

"How’s your first day, Myrtle?" Lennox asked Myrtle while Adrienne was still in the washroom of their home, leaving him with her best friend.

Myrtle swallowed her food and sipped her drink before answering him. It was her first day as Adrienne’s personal assistant, and she was already overwhelmed by the many tasks and responsibilities. She had been running errands, scheduling appointments, and organizing Adrienne’s chaotic calendar since early morning.

Despite the pressure, Myrtle managed to maintain a smile as she replied to Lennox, "It’s been quite hectic, but I’m enjoying the challenge so far. I understand what Gavin feels like."

Lennox burst into laughter, hearing her words. "Addie is already giving you a hard time on your first day?"

Myrtle’s face flushed, and she looked away. "It’s nothing like that, Lennox. I just didn’t expect Adrienne to do such a lot of things alone. I thought she’s slacking here since she married you."

Adrienne might be her best friend, but she was also her boss. When Myrtle asked Adrienne if she could work for her, the latter hesitated to agree. Perhaps Adrienne knew how challenging and stressful it would be for Myrtle, especially on her first day. Myrtle’s assumption that Adrienne would be slacking off due to her marriage was clearly unfounded, and it seemed like she had underestimated Adrienne’s dedication and professionalism.

"Addie refused to let her bodyguards do her schedules and do it on her own, but at least she delegated some of the errands to them." Lennox replied, "Purple Cloud has recently launched their collection for this season, so she’s been making many calls and have long meetings these days."

"It’s surprising that you could still find time to spend with each other," Myrtle commented, impressed by their ability to balance their busy schedules.

"Yes, it can be challenging," Lennox admitted with a smile. "But we prioritize quality time together and make the most of our moments."

He paused as he looked at Myrtle. He already asked Adrienne before but wanted to hear Myrtle’s answer.

"Why did you decline Gavin’s suggestion for you to work on Huayi instead? Surely, what Purple Cloud could give you can also be found in Huayi," Lennox asked curiously.

Myrtle took a moment to gather her thoughts before responding. A slight blush spread as she said, "I don’t like office dating. It won’t help me focus on my work if I work at the same place as him. Also, I don’t want to give my brother an opening to attack you and Huayi."

Myrtle gave Lennox a knowing look. She was aware of the conflict between Lennox and Alistair.

"I heard things from my mother, you know. She suggested not letting Addie come to my place at the moment. Alistair has been throwing a fit recently at the Han mansion because of her." She paused and tightened her hold on her silverware. "I can’t do anything to protect Addie, but I want to make sure my brother won’t be able to have her."

"Why?" Lennox couldn’t help but ask. "Why does Addie hate him so much when she used to be infatuated with him?"

Myrtle was taken aback, but she was also curious. She couldn’t remember anything that could warrant such hatred and animosity between Adrienne and Alistair. She couldn’t even understand why her stepbrother was obsessed with Adrienne.

"I don’t know, Nox," Myrtle answered. "Addie didn’t tell you anything?"

Lennox responded with a shake of his head. He tried several times to get to the bottom of it but couldn’t find any rational answer.

Myrtle sighed as she thought of Alistair’s controlling nature and lack of respect for boundaries. "Maybe it’s because Alistair is used to getting everything he wants, and Adrienne is the only woman who has ever said no to him."

"That could be it," Lennox agreed, his mind churning with thoughts. "But either way, I won’t let anything happen to Adrienne. I’ll protect her at all costs."

Myrtle nodded, her heart warming at his words. She had always known Lennox to be reliable, and he had never failed to show his loyalty and love for Adrienne.

Adrienne emerged from the washroom as they finished their dinner, dressed in her house clothes.

"You two started without me?" Adrienne said with a grin as she walked towards them.

Lennox stood up from his seat and pulled her in for a hug, planting a kiss on her cheek. "We didn’t want to disturb you, love. How was your day?"

Adrienne smiled, her eyes lighting up. "It was hectic, as usual. But I managed to get some work done, thanks to Myrtle’s help." She turned to her best friend and gave her a grateful smile.

Myrtle couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment at Adrienne’s words. Despite the job’s pressure and demands, she knew she was doing something right.

"Well, I’m glad to hear that," Lennox said, sitting beside Adrienne. "But let’s not talk about work anymore. Tonight, we relax and enjoy each other’s company."

Adrienne and Myrtle nodded in agreement, and as they enjoyed their dinner together, the conversation drifted away from work and towards lighter topics.

For Myrtle, witnessing the love and happiness between her best friend and her husband was enough to make her forget about the stress and challenges of the job. She knew she was in good company and was grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their lives.

She had never seen Adrienne this happy with anyone before, and Myrtle was thankful that Adrienne had gained the smile she lost many years ago. When Adrienne’s mother got into the accident, Myrtle had never seen her best friend smile genuinely again. Added to the fact that she was constantly being bullied by the Jiang family, Adrienne was frequently stressed and unhappy.

But Lennox had changed all that. With his love and support, Adrienne had finally found the happiness and peace she deserved.

As the night went on, Myrtle couldn’t help but feel grateful for the love and friendship that surrounded her. She could only hope no one or nothing could ruin this happiness.

And as they laughed and chatted together, Myrtle felt her worries melting away. Everything felt perfect for a brief moment, and she knew this was just the beginning of an incredible journey with two of the most amazing people she knew.
