Chapter 252: Reunited (2)

Despite regaining her consciousness, Rosemary was still too weak to remain awake for too long. Adrienne had been worried when she saw her mother drifting back to sleep, afraid that she wouldn’t wake up again, but the doctor assured her that her mother was merely tired and would need a lot of rest. She also mentioned that it was quite usual for most patients to be unable to stay conscious for more than a few hours after waking up for the first time.

"Give it time, Addie. I’m sure she’ll wake up again." Lennox placed a hand on her back as they watched Rosemary sleep again.

Adrienne nodded, trying to find comfort in Lennox’s words. She knew that her mother’s recovery would take time, but the fear of losing her still lingered. Hoping for the best, she whispered, "I just hope it happens soon. I miss seeing her awake and talking to us."

They left Rosemary in the company of her grandparents and stepped outside the room. Uncle Shark was stationed outside the room, making sure to keep tabs on what was brought inside and who entered.

Adrienne knew she wouldn’t be at ease until she was certain that her mother was in good hands. She couldn’t shake off the worry that something might go wrong while they were away. Adrienne took a deep breath, reminding herself to trust the medical staff and focus on taking care of herself in the meantime.

"Len, would it be alright if we stayed here for a few days? I don’t think I can leave Mom like this." Adrienne asked as she held her arm.

Adrienne noticed earlier the way Lennox looked at her mother with such care and reverence. It was evident that he held her in high regard, and his respect for her was genuine. A wave of pride washed over her, knowing that she had married a man who not only loved her but also respected her family.

Lennox smiled and squeezed her arm. "Of course, Addie. Whatever you need, we’ll be here for as long as it takes."

Adrienne felt a surge of gratitude towards her husband. She knew it wouldn’t be easy for him to stay here at the Zhao estate for days, but having Lennox by her side made it bearable.

"Don’t worry about Uncle Reese, Len. I’m sure he would understand."

Lennox nodded. "I have never seen him this happy and relieved at the same time, Addie. It must have shocked him to see that your mother finally woke up after years of being in a coma."

Adrienne smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Yes, it’s truly a miracle. I’m just grateful that she’s finally back with us."

"But your Uncle Reese is also right, Addie. We can’t let anyone know your mother is awake now, especially your father."

Adrienne’s expression hardened. If it wasn’t for her father, her mother wouldn’t suffer like this. Whenever she thinks of it, her blood boils with rage. She wanted nothing but to destroy that cheating couple. Now that her mother was awake, she cannot delay her revenge on the Jiang family anymore.

A room was prepared for her and Lennox that same day, but Adrienne was still restless and couldn’t sleep through the night as her mother hadn’t woken up since morning. Lennox drew her into his embrace and cupped her cheeks, keeping her eyes on him.

"Calm down, Addie." He said, "You have to trust what the doctor said. Give her some time. Mom needs to rest to recover faster." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"I know, but I’m worried, Len." Adrienne admitted, "How do I explain to her that Father has remarried and betrayed her? Mom would surely ask why she’s staying here with her parents rather than being at home. She might even ask my father and Cayden’s whereabouts."

"Baby, you’re worrying too much. I’m sure Mom would understand. You don’t need to cover up for them; just tell her the truth. What matters now is that she’s awake. We can deal with the rest one step at a time, so don’t fret too much."

Adrienne nodded, but she couldn’t help but feel grievances for her mother. Her mother had been through a lot, and she didn’t have an idea that everything she had before she got involved in the car accident was gone now, except Adrienne.

Her mother would surely be brokenhearted if she knew her husband and her mistress tried to murder her, and the son she raised like her own betrayed her. Adrienne knew that revealing the truth to her mother would only cause more pain and anguish, but she also knew she cannot hide the truth from her for too long.

As the night turned into dawn, Adrienne finally drifted off to sleep, her head heavy with worries and thoughts. When she woke up several hours later, she saw that the sun was already high up in the sky. She checked her phone and saw that she had several missed calls and messages from her husband, telling her that he had left for work and that he’d return as soon as he could.

She got dressed and went to her mother’s room, hoping to see her awake and alert. To her relief, Rosemary was sitting up in bed, sipping some water with Uncle Shark’s help.

"Good morning, Mom." Adrienne greeted her with a smile, trying to hide her emotions.

Rosemary’s eyes lit up at the sight of her daughter, and she reached out to hug her. Adrienne couldn’t help but burst into tears again as she hugged her mother, dropping her forehead to her shoulder. She made an effort not to cry, but the realization that her mother was awake now overwhelmed her. She felt her mother’s soothing hand on her back and pulled herself together.

"I’m sorry, Mom," Adrienne murmured. "I just missed you so much. You don’t know how long I’ve waited and prayed for this."

She sat up and wiped her tears away, her heart aching as she saw her mother in tears as well. Adrienne glanced at Uncle Shark, who chose to look away, and silently stepped out of the room to give them privacy.

Rosemary cupped her daughter’s cheek and smiled with teary eyes. Although she couldn’t speak normally, she was able to convey how much she missed Adrienne as well.

"Thank you, Mom. Thank you for coming back to me. To us."
