Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 227: Deep-Seated Hatred (1)
Since his return, Lennox has noticed many things about his wife. Adrienne had not only grown more beautiful over the past three years, but her temperament had also improved. She wasn’t as cold and aloof as she used to be.
Lennox found himself drawn to her warmth and affection, realizing that their time apart had allowed them both to grow individually and strengthen their bond as a couple. He was grateful for the positive changes he has witnessed in his wife since his absence.
Adrienne used to view love as a luxury she could not afford to have. However, now she was willing to compromise and allow herself to receive love. She had come to understand that love was not a weakness but rather a source of strength and support. Adrienne let go of her fears and insecurities, embracing the vulnerability that comes with them.
It was already late at night when she and Lennox returned to their hotel room. They were exhausted from the long day of exploring the city, but Adrienne felt a sense of contentment and peace as they entered the room. She realized that this trip had brought her closer to Lennox and allowed them to understand each other.
While waiting for her husband, who was showering, Adrienne decided to watch the evening news. The news was about the newest movie released by StarMedia, "Time After Time." Unlike before, Ayla Jiang won’t play the female lead actress this time. Instead, the role went to rising starlet Sofia Yun, who had been making waves in the industry with her breakthrough performances.
Adrienne took a sip from her wineglass as the newest female lead was revealed. Of course, she was the one responsible for such a drastic change. The film "Time After Time" made Ayla popular in her past life, so how could she let her cousin take advantage of it again?
There was no way she would allow Ayla to succeed in showbiz. She had been discreetly sabotaging Ayla’s career behind the scenes, spreading rumors and manipulating industry connections. Adrienne knew that Sofia Yun’s success would only further overshadow Ayla’s chances of reclaiming her former glory, fueling her frustration further.
Adrienne wanted Ayla to experience the same suffering she experienced in her past life. Ayla should experience losing everything she had, just like Adrienne did. Adrienne was determined to ensure Ayla’s dreams would crumble beneath her, leaving her with nothing but regret and bitterness in the end. She wanted Ayla to understand the pain of being overshadowed and forgotten, just as Adrienne had once been.
Before Camilla and her children took Adrienne away, Ayla boasted about stealing her husband from her and forcing her to sign the divorce papers. Adrienne hadn’t yet forgotten this. Adrienne had spent countless nights replaying the betrayal in her mind, fueling her desire for revenge. She couldn’t bear the thought of Ayla moving on with her life unscathed while Adrienne’s own world had crumbled into pieces in her previous life.
Adrienne had such intense hatred in her eyes that Lennox saw it when he joined her in the living area. He’d never seen her angry like this before and wondered who pissed her off big time for Adrienne to act this way.
Lennox cautiously approached Adrienne, trying to gauge the depth of her anger. As he observed her clenched fists and furrowed brow, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of concern for whoever had crossed her path.
"What’s wrong, Addie?" He asked his wife. "Did something bad happen?"
His eyes were then drawn to the big screen before them, seeing Ayla Jiang. Lennox Qin knew that Ayla was Adrienne’s cousin. He also knew his wife held a grudge against Ayla Jiang, but he had no idea what warranted this hatred.
Adrienne patted the space beside her, inviting her husband to join her. Lennox didn’t waste time and sat down, resting an arm on the couch behind his wife’s head.
"You should know by now that my father isn’t the only one I hold a grudge against," Adrienne said, her voice tinged with bitterness.
Lennox furrowed his brows, trying to recall any past conversations or incidents that would explain her animosity towards Ayla. But no matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t come up with anything concrete. It was clear that the two women had a deep-rooted history, and Lennox couldn’t help but feel a pang of concern for his wife’s emotional well-being.
"What did she do?" He asked curiously.
Adrienne remained silent. The entire Jiang family offended her greatly in her previous life. Her father remarried and allowed Camilla to kill not only her but also her mother and elder brother. His second uncle amassed a huge chunk of her mother’s assets, making Sierra relentlessly bully her. Lastly, Ayla Jiang seduced her husband and had an affair with him.
Adrienne’s silence spoke volumes as the memories of the Jiang family’s actions flooded her mind. The depth of their betrayal and the pain they had caused her were things she couldn’t easily put into words.
"Alright. You don’t have to tell me." Lennox conceded, seeing that Adrienne wasn’t willing to tell him anything. However, it was clear to him that the Jiang family had deeply wounded Adrienne and that their actions had left a lasting impact on her. He couldn’t help but feel angry towards them for the pain they had caused his wife.
"I won’t allow them to trample me over again," Adrienne said after a long silence. "Ayla is no exception."
"Isn’t she more popular than Sofia Yun? She must be upset for not securing the lead role this time." Lennox commented once he heard the details of the film "Time After Time."
Adrienne chuckled and crossed her legs before leaning against him. Lennox smiled and wound his arm around him as he held her close.
"How could I give her the opportunity to advance?" She replied, a wicked smile spreading on her lips. "I would like her to suffer in bitterness as she watched what was supposed to be hers land on someone’s hands."
