Chapter 194: Bidding Goodbye (2)

"Miss, Elise Jiang will be sent abroad to study," Irina reported one cold afternoon. "What they are up to this time?"

The sky was a gray that was neither light nor dark; it was a constant color of frozen tears and clouds that seemed to be made out of lead. Adrienne was lounging in Lennox’s study, waiting for him to return from the bath. Lennox had just finished his two-hour physical therapy session.

"What else could it be but to lessen the damage to Elise’s reputation?" She replied nonchalantly.

A hint of coldness flashed in Adrienne’s eyes. It seemed that she hadn’t completely ruined Elise yet. But she was determined to continue her efforts, no matter how long it took. She knew that tarnishing Elise’s reputation was the key to achieving her own twisted sense of satisfaction.

Her father cannot just give up easily on Elise. She was his favorite daughter after all, and Camilla would never allow Elise to be ruined by the scandal surrounding her. Adrienne knew her father’s plans to send Elise abroad weren’t just to save her reputation; he had other motives in mind.

Adrienne suspected that her father’s plan to send Elise abroad was also a way for him to protect his own reputation and maintain his social standing. She couldn’t help but wonder what ulterior motives he had in mind and how far he would go to ensure Elise’s reputation remained intact.

"What about my cousins, Ayla and Sierra?" Adrienne asked. How could she forget those two? Her cousins proactively ruined her reputation in her past life, and Adrienne intend to repay their ’kindness’ someday.

"Sierra’s father gets addicted to gambling these days, while Ayla’s career is doing well." Irina answered. She believed that it would be better to uproot Ayla this early before she could threaten Adrienne in the future. However, Irina knew that Adrienne wanted her enemies utterly destroyed.

"I see, then let them be for the meantime. It wouldn’t be fun to ruin the game this early."

The news of Adrienne Jiang selling the Jiang estate and moving with the Zhao family. Everyone knew that after the event at the Gu mansion, Old Master Zhao doted on his only granddaughter. He’d stood up for her and recognized her as part of the Zhao family; hence, many affluent families and bachelors now considered Adrienne Jiang as a good candidate for a wife. Whoever could marry her would surely get the backing of the prestigious Zhao family.

However, not many knew that Adrienne Jiang was mostly absent at the Zhao estate. Although she lived there with her mother and brother, her days were mostly spent with Lennox Qin and his siblings. As the day of their departure was just around the corner, Adrienne wasn’t willing to leave Lennox’s side. She accompanied him during his physical therapy sessions and spent afternoons in a companionable silence.

Meanwhile, the Jiang estate was in complete disarray.

Camilla only had to think about Adrienne tarnishing her daughter’s innocence and reputation, and she felt as though someone was twisting a knife in her heart. She had been wondering where their plan went wrong and why Elise was the one who suffered.

Elise had been pale and mentally unstable over the past few days, and the words that Lewis had spoken the other night forced her to be on the edge. Her father wanted to send her abroad so everyone would forget her scandalous night with Ares Gu. Lewis Jiang believed that as long as people could see her, they wouldn’t be able to forget the scandal.

Her parents got into a heated argument, with Camilla refusing to accept her husband’s decision to send their daughter away. From the moment she gave birth to Elise, her daughter was always by her side. So how could she part with her?

However, Elise took matters into her own hands and chose to side with her father in the end. That morning, she asked them to prepare for her departure. Camilla was heartbroken, unable to understand why her daughter would willingly leave her.

She pleaded with Elise, desperate for her to change her mind and stay. Despite the pain it caused, Elise remained firm in her decision, believing it was the only way to escape the scandal that had threatened to ruin their lives.

"Mom, I want to go," Elise insisted. She knew that staying would only prolong the agony and intensify the public scrutiny they were facing. She was determined to forge her own path and find a fresh start away from the judgmental eyes of high society.

"Have you lost your mind?" Camilla said it in shock. "Do you know what could happen if you leave? Everyone would forget about your existence!"

"So what?" Elise scowled. "I was already subject to this level of humiliation from Adrienne. Letting them forget me for a moment wouldn’t matter. Once I return, I will prove to them who’s the real ’Miss Jiang’ they should look up to."

Camilla was stunned into silence. It was rare for her to see Elise this calm. She had always known Elise to be impulsive and quick-tempered, but now there was a determination in her eyes that Camilla had never seen before. It was clear that Elise had made up her mind, and nothing could change it.

"Mom, I have thought it through already. I want to go. I have already asked Dad, and he has agreed."

"Eliise, what happened?" Camilla said it in panic. She could not help but feel uneasy with her daughter’s unusual act. Her mind raced, trying to understand what could have caused such a drastic change in Elise. She knew her daughter well enough to know that she didn’t make decisions lightly, especially ones that involved leaving home.

"Nothing has happened, Mom." Elise said as she turned her gaze away, as if unwilling to speak any further.

"I’m simply tired of living here. It will be good to learn independently and how to deal with things on my own. If you’re worried about my reputation, I promised I would gain it back, and Adrienne will pay a hundredfold for the humiliation I suffered today. There will come a time when I will have a better life than that bitch, and she will be nothing more than a fool who I can kill myself."
