Everyone’s eyes turned to the newcomer. They saw two young women dressed in a set of matching pajamas. Adrienne was wearing the blue one with white bunnies printed on it, while Katherine Shen was wearing the pink one. They looked confused as their gaze swept around.
"Addie, there you are." Old Master Zhao sighed in relief once he saw his granddaughter.
"Grandpa, I heard you arrived, but isn’t it a bit too early? It’s not like I’m going anywhere." Adrienne replied before glancing at Camilla’s horrified face. "What is happening here? Why is everyone crowding in front of this room?"
She stepped forward and Camilla instinctively retreated, alarm registering on her face. Looking at Adrienne’s calm expression, a sense of anxiety rose from her heart. She was confused as to why Adrienne looked unperturbed despite what transpired last night. Any sane woman who was defiled by a lecher would surely choose death rather than continue living.
This was impossible. Ares Gu was inside the room where Adrienne stayed last night, so how did Adrienne avoid disaster this time?
"A-Adrienne, why are you here? Then... then who’s the woman next to Young Master Gu?" Camilla asked.
Irina took this chance and pulled the blanket from the woman in the bed. Camilla’s heart sank when it registered to her who Ares Gu spent the night with. She looked like she was about to faint on the ground.
"My Elise!" She cried out. "What have you done to her?!"
Because the room was spacious and brightly lit, everyone was able to clearly see who it was.
Ares’s eyes widened as he stared at the woman sleeping soundly next to him. How could it not be Adrienne Jiang?
Just then, his gaze landed on the young woman standing next to Old Master Zhao. She was smiling gently, but he could see a hint of mockery in Adrienne’s eyes. He then understood that Eldest Miss Jiang wasn’t someone anyone could mess with. Despite being drugged and cornered, she still escaped and avoided the disaster.
Everyone could see Elise lying on her back with the blanket barely covering her hind. They could see several bruises and red marks on her body, proving that she spent the night with Ares Gu. There were multiple bite marks on her shoulder.
Realizing that they were outwitted once again by Adrienne, Camilla rushed towards Adrienne and was about to slap her when Irina caught her wrist. Irina pushed her to the floor, but Camilla glared furiously at Adrienne.
"What’s the meaning of this, Aunt Camilla?" Adrienne’s voice sounded like a warning to everyone’s ears. "What does this have to do with me?"
"You! How could it be Elise?! It was you who slept here last night!"
"While it’s true that I stayed here last night, I slept and shared the room with Miss Shen. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling thirsty and Irina was still away. I met Miss Shen while I stepped out and we ended up having a sleepover together." Adrienne paused. "I had no idea Elise would come here last night."
"I can vouch for Adrienne. If you’re still suspicious, you can ask my bodyguards who were stationed outside my room last night." Katherine Shen gave Adrienne a knowing look.
"You bitch! How dare you do this to my daughter?!"
Camilla had finally lost her sane mind and pointed an accusing finger to Adrienne. She glared at her stepdaughter as if she wanted to devour her. The one who was supposed to be suffering was Adrienne!
So the woman that Ares Gu was torturing last night was her Elise! She couldn’t imagine the torture her daughter experienced from that bastard. Elise was insulted and defiled, so how could she accept it?
Adrienne’s expression changed. She awkwardly tugged on her grandfather’s sleeve to get his attention.
"Grandpa, I really don’t know what’s going on and why Aunt Camilla is blaming me. Even though Elise was the victim, when I think about it, that misfortune would have happened to me instead if I didn’t leave this room last night. If I was the one who was defiled by Young Master Gu last night then I..."
Tears brimmed in her eyes and Adrienne didn’t need to finish her words. It was clear to everyone what she was implying.
"Impudence!" Cedric Zhao exclaimed. "Regardless of who the woman in the bed was last night, the Gu family is surely at fault here! You failed to educate your grandson and cause trouble for everyone! For you to allow your grandson to act shamelessly like this is truly deplorable! Be thankful that it wasn’t our Adrienne who was harmed today. But I’ll tell you now that our Zhao family would never associate ourselves with the likes of you!"
It was the first time Adrienne had regarded him as her grandfather. Having witnessed for himself how the Jiang family tried to bully his granddaughter, Cedric Zhao naturally didn’t want to see her feeling aggrieved.
The spectators outside remained silent, but they had a clear opinion of what had transpired. Today, not only had Elise lost her innocence, but the Gu family’s reputation was also under scrutiny.
The tables seemed to have turned!
Madam Jiang was certain that the woman beside Ares Gu was her stepdaughter, yet that same stepdaughter appeared out of nowhere behind them. Things simply escalated when the other woman was revealed to be none other than her daughter!
Most people came from affluent families and they were familiar with devices and schemes like this. There was no doubt that Camilla Yan had made this arrangement for Adrienne Jiang last night, only to be shot in her own foot in the end.
Yet, they were also baffled as to how Elise Jiang ended up being defiled today instead of Adrienne. Did Adrienne know what her stepmother was up to and forced the older woman to have a taste of her own medicine?
How could there be such a coincidence? This matter was really odd. It was as if Adrienne was the owner of the chessboard and everyone was playing according to her will.
Since the Gu family had offended the Zhao family today, it was certain that they would suffer some hiccups in the future. Despite not being active in the business world, having the Zhao’s family backing could boost someone’s reputation and position in the upper society. Wasn’t this the same reason why Lewis Jiang abandoned his long time lover in favor of marrying Rosemary Zhao?
"But Aunt Camilla, Elise has suffered like this, yet you chose to pounce on me and blame me instead. Shouldn’t you be checking on Elise before anything else?"
Camilla was about to spit blood. To suffer such a massive loss once again against Adrienne was really humiliating. Even with the Gu family’s help, they still failed in the end. Not only had Adrienne managed to escape unscathed, but Elise had to bear the consequence of the assault instead.
"Right. I say Madam Jiang must have known what would happen to Miss Jiang last night. Didn’t you see how she rushed here before us?" Someone commented, but Camilla didn’t dare to look up and see who said that.
Old Master Gu was fuming inwardly. He couldn’t help but blame his grandson for being stupid! He should have ensured that the woman in the bed was Adrienne Jiang and not someone else. Now, the Gu family had unintentionally made an enemy out of the Zhao family on top of becoming a joke of the society.
Ares noticed the brewing rage on his grandfather’s face. He immediately pulled up his undergarments and kowtowed on the floor before his grandfather.
"Grandfather, it’s all my fault. I was drunk last night and mistakenly entered Miss Jiang’s room. I would have never thought that this woman would try to seduce me!" He pointed to Elise’s sleeping form.
Adrienne looked at him with disgust. Ares Gu was pushing all the blame on Elise to save the Gu family’s reputation. He was blatantly lying in front of everyone. If she was the one who was defiled last night, Adrienne knew they would all pin the blame on her too.
Camilla mustered all the courage she had and reached for her daughter. She went to the bed and reached out with a trembling hand to check on Elise. Her heart was filled with anguish as she saw Elise’s slightly swollen face.
Ares Gu was so cruel, but the one Camilla hated the most was none other than Adrienne Jiang!
This torture, this humiliation should have been Adrienne’s, but her Elise ended up having to bear it all. To be abused and defiled in such a way, Elise’s life was finished! No man from any prestigious and affluent families would welcome her into their homes.
