Chapter 153: Star of the Night (1)

"Miss Gu, you should know the Gu family will lose everything after tonight."

It was Irina who answered Marion this time. Lennox and Gavin were aware of Adrienne’s predicament. Though their Master Nox agreed that he wouldn’t interfere in Adrienne’s path of revenge, that didn’t mean he would allow anyone to hurt her.

After tonight, the Gu family’s downfall was unavoidable. They were the ones who sought trouble by scheming against their future mistress, so how could Lennox remain calm after knowing these?

When Irina, along with Kalista and Leigh, reported the situation to Lennox the day before, she had never seen her master so furious. He said nothing, but his eyes harbored a mass of dark storm clouds, promising pain to anyone in its path. His gaze was so icy that the three women had to shut their mouths unconsciously. They briefly thought their future mistress acted almost the same as their master in many ways.

Irina understood the situation. Their Master Nox was absolutely furious this time. Young Master Gu was too bold to lust after their master’s person. He was courting death by having ill intentions toward Adrienne Jiang.

"What does it have to do with me?" Marion said with a straight face. "It’s not my fault they offended the wrong person. As long as Miss Jiang can guarantee my safety and future, then I don’t give a damn what would happen to the Gu family."

She paused as the events prior to this day replayed in her mind. Marion had heard things about Adrienne before, and just like her, the rumors about Adrienne were outrageous and baseless.

"My brother wants to marry you, and because he knew you would disagree if he proposed marriage to you, he chose to become a ’night thief’ instead. He wanted to ensure that no man would want to have you after this. Miss Jiang, if they found out you were missing, they would surely block all exits within the mansion. You have to leave at once."

Adrienne was aware of her situation. What Marion said was right. The longer they stayed at the Gu Mansion, the more dangerous it would be for her. It seemed Ares Gu had other plans and wasn’t willing to leave everything to his mother’s arrangement.

Adrienne considered her options, but Marion Gu was a stranger, and what she knew about the young woman was only on a surface-level. What made Marion Gu think she could give her the freedom she sought?

"What do you have in mind?" She asked Marion.

Since Marion had decided to extend an olive branch to her, Adrienne assumed that Marion had made some preparations beforehand. She knew what could happen to this young lady if they failed tonight. They were in the same boat now.

Marion rushed to her closet and pulled out several clothes inside. Adrienne was speechless. Was this young woman confident that she would succeed?

"Here. Please change into these. I’ll show you the route only the servants would use in this mansion. Once they realize you are missing, I have no doubt they would block that route in order to stop you from leaving."

"How do we know you’re telling the truth and not tricking our young miss?" Kalista looked at Marion suspiciously.

Who knew if it was part of the Gu family’s plan, asking her to win Adrienne’s sympathy only to betray her in the end? Giving false hope to someone was one of the cruelest ways to hurt someone, especially for a young woman like Adrienne Jiang.

Marion met Kalista’s eyes, her clear eyes refusing to back down. She would rather be a country bumpkin than be a black-hearted socialite.

"This is the only shot I have to get away from here." She answered Kalista. "If the Gu family finds out that I helped you escape, they wouldn’t let me off easily."

The only one who cared for her in this family was her grandfather, but even he wasn’t strong enough to stop her siblings from harming her over the past three years. Knowing Ares’s temperament, he would surely beat the hell out of her once he finds out she was the one who let Adrienne escape. Just the thought was enough to give her a chill down her spine.

"Why don’t I check first whether the route Miss Gu is showing us is safe?" Leigh suggested. "Since everyone saw Miss arrive with Irina, she can’t leave her post downstairs yet. Stay here with Miss, Kal."

"Alright, let’s do that," Kalista easily agreed. "If there’s something wrong, retreat immediately."

Leigh then took the maid’s uniform Marion was holding. Once dressed, she stealthily slipped outside, leaving Adrienne with Kalista and Marion.

It had only been half an hour since Adrienne took the detoxifying pill and she had yet to regain her full strength. She would need to rely on Kalista and Leigh in order to escape. As for Elise... it would depend on her luck whether she would avoid disaster or not.

She would be lucky if Ares noticed that she wasn’t Adrienne. However, if he was so blinded with lust and failed to notice that it was a different woman in his bed, then Elise’s hope of marrying the Young Master of the Ji family would be ruined.

It would be better if Adrienne could destroy the chance of the Jiang family gaining a strong foothold by using the Ji family in the future. In this life, she would never allow the Jiang family to step on her and to prosper. It would be easier for her to deal with the Ji family later on.

"I’ve been wondering how they would make you stay longer here in the mansion. I would have never thought they would dare to drug you so openly." Marion commented as she noticed Adrienne’s unusual pale complexion.

Kalista had a complex expression on her face. She knew from Irina that Adrienne didn’t take a sip of the wine and only pretended earlier, so how did the Gu family manage to slip past their defenses?
