"What’s wrong?" Adrienne asked when she noticed Kalista’s conflicting expression. Did they overlook something?

"Just thinking how they managed to drug you, Miss." Kalista answered. "Master wouldn’t be pleased once he found out we’ve failed to protect you."

"You haven’t failed yet." Adrienne corrected her. "Unless I was caught and lost my innocence, you and the rest haven’t failed yet and I know that even if we have to face them head to head, you won’t forsake me."

Kalista looked at Adrienne blankly. According to Irina, their young mistress had her own way to deal with her enemies and it was hard to fathom what she was thinking. However, as Kalista met Adrienne’s eyes, she could feel nothing but curiosity.

Adrienne Jiang schemed against her sister and pushed Elise Jiang to the edge of the cliff, leaving her vulnerable to Ares Gu. It wasn’t like Kalista had never met a ruthless person like Adrianne Jiang, but it was the first time she met one who was as young as Adrienne.

"Miss Gu should return to the banquet before anyone notices your disappearance. You are the star of the night today, and I hate to take the limelight from you." Adrienne told Marion, who was oblivious to what her two companions were thinking of at the moment.

Marion smiled. She didn’t want to leave yet and wanted to talk with Adrienne, but what the latter said was right. The Gu family might suspect something if she was gone for too long.

"Please be careful on your way. I will try to distract everyone as much as I can. However, Miss Jiang, once you manage to escape, please don’t forget that it was me who made it possible."

Adrienne nodded in response. "You have my word."

Once Marion left, Kalista and Leigh immediately helped Adrienne to don the other maid’s uniform. Along with the clothes Marion had given them earlier were realistic wigs made with human hair. Kalista took the dark brown long hair and put it on Adrienne’s head.

Adrienne could only flinch as the hair pins slightly tug on her scalp and felt a little warm from the thick layer of clothes she was wearing.

"We don’t have any makeup to use on her face. Someone might recognize her." Kalista bit her thumb as she tried to figure out how to make Adrienne look normal.

"Miss Addie should keep her head low and shouldn’t look at the faces of the guest lest she might be recognized and revealed to the Gu family. They might use another excuse to keep her here." Leigh commented.

Irina’s voice reached their earpieces. She needed to keep her post outside the room where Elise was in order to fool the Gu family into thinking that Adrienne was still inside.

"Miss, Ares Gu has made his way upstairs. We should hurry." Kalista said as Leigh checked the hallway outside before motioning the two to follow her lead.

"Irina, buy us some time. As long as you’re there, that bastard won’t do anything yet." Leigh whispered in a low voice.

"I know. Inform me once you manage to leave the manor, I’ll follow you shortly." Irina said.

A moment later, Ares Gu came to Irina’s view. The man smiled dashingly at her, but she merely raised a brow. She looked at him like he was a big joke. Since he was lascivious and toyed with innumerable women, Irina was glad that her master was set on destroying this man’s life.

"The party hasn’t reached the best part yet, but I heard Miss Jiang has already requested to retire early. Is she alright?" Ares tried to strike a conversation with Irina.

"Miss Adrienne isn’t in the best of health at the moment since she’s preparing for her college entrance exam. I think it’s the same for Miss Elise since she also requested to rest early." She answered.

Ares Gu merely smiled. He could only nod before entering the room beside the room that Irina was guarding. As he thought about the beauty waiting for him next door, he couldn’t help but drool. Not even the beauties he spent the night with before could compare to Adrienne Jiang. She was totally different from the women he had toyed with previously and was so unusual that she immediately piqued his interest.

Even if Adrienne Jiang refused his marriage proposal, once she was tainted by him, she would have no other choice but to yield to him. If he were to marry her, not only would the Gu family have control over the Jiang family, but the Zhao family would also be forced to acknowledge them as their in-laws.
