Once Adrienne was settled inside the room prepared for her, Camilla’s lips curled up. She and Madam Gu instructed Irina to stay outside the room.
"Look after your young miss. Make sure no one dares to disturb her rest." Camilla told Irina before leaving with Madam Gu.
Irina sneered inwardly. They were forcing her to keep watch outside, but she suspected that there was a hidden passage within the room connecting it to the next one.
Only two rooms were on this level, and she didn’t even have to guess who occupied the next room. The room they assigned to Adrienne was at the end of the hallway, and there was no other way of leaving but to pass the other room before reaching the massive staircase.
The music coming from the party below reached Irina’s ears. The guests were unaware that the host and Jiang families were scheming to make a young woman lose her innocence tonight. If this scandal involving any unmarried woman broke out, it would destroy her life and future.
Irina had been patiently waiting for Kalista and Leigh to arrive, as she had already sent the sign to proceed with their plan. She’d already given Adrienne a detoxifying pill that could reverse the effects of the paralytic drug in her system. In an hour, Adrienne should be able to regain a little strength, enough for her to move.
Finally, Kalista and Leigh arrived together, with an unconscious Elise Jiang on Kalista’s back. Irina immediately opened the door, and the three rushed inside. They found Adrienne seated on the bed with a pale face.
"You did well," Adrienne said coldly as she glanced at Elise’s face. "Carry her to the bed."
With Irina’s help, Adrienne stood away from the bed as Kalista and Leigh placed Elise on the empty bed. The two looked frightened, knowing how this scheme would end for Elise Jiang. However, their sympathy toward Elise Jiang lessened as they thought about how the Jiang family colluded with the Gu family to harm their young mistress.
Who told her mother it was alright to send someone’s daughter to a lecher’s bed? Elise had no one to blame for her misfortune tonight but her parents.
"Did someone see you take her away?" She asked.
"No, Miss, but there are so many guards currently roaming around. It seems that they are set to keep you here tonight. If we hadn’t used a distraction, we wouldn’t even be able to come up here." Kalista answered while Leigh was checking everything in the room.
"Miss, this room is connected to the next room. It’s currently unoccupied." Leigh confirmed Irina’s earlier assumptions.
"What do we do then? They don’t dare to make a scene, but they want to keep Miss Addie here against her will." Kalista glanced at their young mistress, noticing Adrienne was unusually calm despite their situation. Irina must have already neutralized the paralytic drug because she was still paper-white.
"What else but leave? Did you bring the change of clothes that I asked you to?" Adrienne asked Irina.
Kalista proceeded to hand over a small bag to Adrienne. Adrienne didn’t waste time and peeled off her black dress as if she wasn’t bothered by being seen half-naked by Lennox’s female guards. They heard something hitting the room’s windows after Adrienne changed her clothes.
Irina glanced at her companions and decided to check on them. She noticed several small pebbles on the ground when she stepped out of the balcony. She furrowed her brows and picked up one pebble before another one fell from above.
She looked up, and her eyes widened when she saw Marion Gu, gesturing to her to remain silent. Marion threw something from her balcony, and Irina could only look at her with bewilderment. None of them expected that the room above them was Marion Gu’s.
"What is it?" She heard Adrienne ask, wondering if the balcony was also guarded.
Irina returned to the room and explained the situation to Adrienne.
"Go and ask Marion Gu what she wants in return. She has no reason to help me other than our mutual grudge against the Gu family." Adrienne said in return.
Irina used the rope Marion threw from her balcony to go up and meet her. She relayed her young mistress’s words, and Marion voiced her demand before she could help Adrienne escape.
Irina returned and exchanged a few words with Adrienne, before Leigh lifted their young mistress on her back. Leigh was slightly surprised at how light their young mistress was. She felt like she was carrying a young child on her back.
They used the same rope Irina used to reach Marion’s room. Once they entered the room, Marion looked around and immediately pulled and hid the rope.
"You have some guts to help me behind your family’s back," Adrienne said as she and her guards sat on the cold floor. The room was dark, and Marion was still wearing her white and red dress.
"They weren’t planning to host my birthday in the first place. They only did it because they had wicked intentions toward you. As long as you can give me my freedom, I won’t mind extending a hand to help you escape." Marion replied nervously as she met Adrienne’s cold eyes.
Adrienne stared at the young woman before her. It wasn’t like she and her guards didn’t come unprepared today.
The Qin-Si elite guards were top notch and she trusted that Irina and the others would eventually find a way to sneak her out tonight. However, they weren’t familiar with the Gu mansion, and leaving this place would take some time. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
She asked Irina and the others to run a background check on the Gu family. She was also aware of Marion Gu’s living arrangements and her relationship with the rest of the Gu family. The two Gu siblings have bullied Marion since her arrival three years ago.
For someone who had lived in the countryside, Marion couldn’t get used to her new surroundings and living conditions, and hated the Gu family with passion.
