Adrienne found it difficult to comprehend. How did she wind up being drugged for real when she didn’t actually consume the wine and simply pretended to sip a bit? Her body was weakening, and despite her best efforts, she could not think clearly.
"You didn’t drink it, Miss, so how..." Irina was mid-sentence when realization cut her off. Irina believed they had used a different substance this time to catch Adrienne because she was not displaying any signs of aphrodisiac intoxication.
"Miss, this time they must have used a paralytic drug." She deduced.
Adrienne would be helpless against Ares Gu once the paralytic drug kicked in.
Irina alerted Kalista and Leigh to Adrienne’s situation by pressing on the earpiece in her right ear. They had to take quick action before the Gu family could seize their young mistress.
Irina vigilantly guided her young mistress since she dared not leave her side. However, several men surrounded them from all sides as they approached a barren garden where they could exit, trapping the two of them.
Irina broke into a cold sweat. She could defeat a few men in a fight, but it was obvious that they were outnumbered. Kalista and Leigh would arrive soon, but Irina wasn’t sure how long she could protect Adrienne alone.
Kalista and Leigh were assigned to keep an eye on Elise Jiang, and once they received Irina’s sign, they were to switch Elise in place of Adrienne. Earlier, they had noticed that Elise’s complexion had turned ashen, and her mother had been worried about the sudden change in her daughter.
She lifted both hands before her young mistress, one holding a sharp blade. Her eyes flashed dangerously as the men pulled out several blades, intending to get rid of her.
"Dispose of the bodyguard, but don’t hurt Miss Jiang. Young Master doesn’t want to receive a spoiled good." The leader said, his eyes fixated on Adrienne.
Several men pounced on Irina, but she easily dodged their attacks. They had nothing against her seniors at the elite guards, who also served Lennox and Gavin. One couldn’t see her movement as she kicked and hit their faces with her elbow, not allowing them to get close to her young mistress.
In the blink of an eye, two men fell to the ground, blood seeping out from the cut Irina left on their throats. The men were dumbstruck to see how a woman like Irina easily disarmed and killed two of their companions. They all thought she was an ordinary bodyguard that Adrienne Jiang had employed, but they never imagined she was this capable.
Their eyes filled with rage, and they attacked Irina harder this time. Irina was in front of Adrienne, shielding her, but Adrienne could not run away to safety because the effects of the drug were too strong.
One of the guards stealthy came closer to Adrienne, intending to pull her away from her bodyguard. He moved forward and seized Adrienne’s wrist. However, he suddenly realized that the world was upside down. When an intense pain hit his back, he only realized that Adrienne Jiang had thrown him down.
The men went rigid and looked at Adrienne in incredulity. None of them anticipated that Adrienne Jiang would know some self-defense to protect herself. She wouldn’t allow herself to be caught without a fight.
They glared at her warily but were certain Adrienne Jiang wouldn’t be able to keep resisting for too long since the drug had started to take effect.
Adrienne laughed inwardly. Considering everything, it would seem that the Jiang family was truly determined to ruin her reputation, even to the point of death.
More men came, and they split into two groups. One was targeting Irina, while the other cornered Adrienne. Without further ado, several men rushed to surround her. She managed to throw some punches, but as the drug sapped her strength, Adrienne couldn’t keep up with them.
One of them managed to get closer and twist her arms behind her back. However, Irina took this chance in the nick of time and pounced on the man holding her young mistress. She then proceeded to pull Adrienne away.
Irina pushed her young mistress behind her back and intended to find a way to get out. However, everywhere they went, men would appear and chase after them.
Before she could leave with Adrienne, two women blocked their way. It was Madam Gu, who was sporting a slight smile on her lips, while the other one was Camilla Yan. Irina glowered at the women before them.
These two poisonous snakes wanted to harm their young mistress, but she wouldn’t allow them.
"Oh my, Is Adrienne drunk? It would be bad for her reputation if someone saw her like this. What should we do?" Camilla feigned her concern for Adrienne. "The rumors about her have just recently cleared up."
"How about this? Your family can stay here for a night. No one would suspect Miss Jiang’s whereabouts if she retired this early." Madam Gu suggested it with a smile. "I can arrange for someone to prepare a room for her."
Initially, Adrienne intended to act like she had been drugged. However, none of them expected Adrienne to get drugged for real tonight. While Irina knew how to detoxify it, she needed to bring her young mistress to a safe place. She wondered if their plans would fail tonight.
However, her mind still couldn’t comprehend how Adrienne easily guessed these two women would seek after them once they stepped out of the banquet hall. They were even blatantly pretending that they had nothing to do with the men who chased after them earlier.
"Thank you for your help, Madam Gu. My young miss passed out. She’s not a heavy drinker, after all." Irina said it impassively, her hands clenching painfully behind her. Those men must be working under Ares Gu, and Madam Gu wasn’t aware of them. That bastard must have been impatient to get his hands on Adrienne.
