Adrienne stepped out of her home clad in a black-fitting dress. Her shoulders and neck were exposed. Camilla looked at her with some trepidation. The smile on her face stiffened as her hands tightened on her side.

"Addie, you are becoming more and more beautiful each day." She commented.

There was no doubt that Adrienne Jiang was the black sheep of the Jiang family, yet among the granddaughters produced by the family, her appearance was irrefutably superior compared to Elise and her cousins.

"That must be Adrienne Jiang. I would never have thought that she would be a burgeoning beauty." Someone said it in the crowd.

Adrienne was then introduced to the birthday celebrant, and she took this chance to size up the Young Miss Gu. Marion was caught off guard but thanked Adrienne in the end. She wasn’t willing to leave Adrienne when her father called her to join the rest of the family. She gave Adrienne one last look before begrudgingly leaving.

"Miss, do you think Miss Marion knows something?" Irina whispered next to Adrienne.

"Of course she knows, but what could she do to stop the Gu family? Since her elder brother is set on marrying me, they would try to isolate me from everyone. Don’t let your guard down, Irina."

"Miss shouldn’t eat or drink while we’re here. If you don’t start showing the effects of the drug, then they will surely suspect you."

"I know. I’ll pretend to sip whatever drink they’ll hand me." Adrienne said. "I’ll trust you’ll protect me if things get out of hand."

Ares Gu examined the young woman before him attentively. Though he had spent years admiring countless beauties and indulging in them, this was the first time he had seen such a stunning woman. Adrienne Jiang might be five years his junior, but the Young Master Gu had no doubt she’d be an even more beautiful woman once she reached her peak.

The banquet hall was lively and bustling with noise from their guests, yet Adrienne Jiang seemed to be alone in the midst of it, isolated with no one to speak with. She stood there with a faint smile while holding a flute of wine in one hand. His eyes lit up when she took a small sip from her drink.
