Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 143: Change My Mind (2)
It was Lennox who voiced his intention to court her anyway. Whether she was going to divorce him or not, depends on his capability. She’d been waiting for what Lennox would do, but it seemed he was preoccupied with something else.
Lennox was stunned by her words, pushing him into deep contemplation. He thought Adrienne chose to pretend he never voiced such intentions, but it seemed his assumptions were wrong.
"Forgive me. I’ll do my best to change your mind then." He answered, giving her a weak smile.
"We aren’t married yet, but you are already worrying about divorce? Shouldn’t you be more concerned about our wedding preparations before that?"
Adrienne only hummed in response and Lennox’s mood dramatically improved, seeing that Adrienne was still willing to marry him.
"Then I’ll make sure that it will be a memorable day for you. Perhaps I should ask my mother’s help to find you a wedding dress first." Lennox assured her.
In her previous life, she had married Alistair without a proper wedding ceremony, so naturally she didn’t have the opportunity to become a proper bride and walk down the aisle. Many women wished to have their dream wedding, thinking how beautiful they would be on their wedding day. Alas, Adrienne never experienced such a moment in her past life.
If she was to marry some other person and not Lennox Qin, Adrienne believed she wouldn’t hesitate to end their marriage. She would remain cold and detached toward the person she was married to. But with Lennox Qin as her groom, she knew it wouldn’t be the case.
When did Lennox manage to squeeze himself in her rotten heart? Adrienne had no idea. She wasn’t even sure what his position was in her heart as she hadn’t given it a good thought. Obviously, their relationship couldn’t be considered as friends anymore, but she was certain they hadn’t reached the status of lovers yet.
When dealing with Lennox, Adrienne intended to be passive because she knew very well that she didn’t have enough bargaining power over him. They weren’t even on equal footing. She might be a young miss from the Jiang family, but Lennox was being backed by the Qin and the Li families. To be honest, they came from two different worlds.
"What are you thinking?" Lennox asked when Adrienne remained silent. She always acts like this whenever she feels cornered by him. It was as if she couldn’t believe what he was saying.
"I’m wondering if you got a head injury from the accident. No sane man would like a woman like me." Adrienne came to her senses and replied truthfully.
"You’re right. I might have really lost my mind. I can’t think of anyone other than you these days."
There wasn’t any hint of playfulness in his tone this time. His usual cold countenance and eyes had a gentle warmth in them as Lennox looked at her.
Adrienne was rendered speechless. Lennox was one of the few people who she couldn’t fathom fully. Even now, she wasn’t sure what she felt towards him. The fear of committing the same mistake again lingered in her heart.
"It’s alright. There’s no need to overthink, Addie. Let’s take our time. I’m not rushing you into anything." Lennox said as if he knew what she was thinking.
"Don’t you think it’s unfair?"
"Why would it be unfair?" Lennox asked in return. "I might be demanding at times, Addie, but I’m not someone who would force myself on someone who’s obviously not into me. I still have some respect for myself and others."
Adrienne was taken aback. Lennox was different from Alistair, but she wasn’t certain if he was telling the truth. Alistair had bombarded her with affection before he eventually showed his true colors to her. What if Lennox were to do the same?
"You’re really an odd one." She smiled bitterly.
How wonderful it would have been if she had met Lennox in her past life. Alas, back then, Lennox was also gravely injured. If she hadn’t met him in this life, Adrienne had no doubt things would remain the same for Lennox. He would eventually die and lose everything to the Qin family.
"We’re a match. I’m not the only one who looks odd here." Lennox pointed out.
Adrienne could only sigh. She slightly felt uncomfortable when she thought she was already a thirty-one-year-old woman being courted by a younger man.
Butler Cheng returned with Lennox’s dinner. Adrienne accompanied Lennox and made sure he took his medicine. Lennox had already dozed off when she left his room.
When Adrienne went down to check on the children, she found them already at the dining room and had started their dinner without her. Liam also arrived home and was eating in silence while his sisters were talking incessantly next to him. When he saw Adrienne joining them, he sat straight and lowered his gaze on his meal.
"Addie, where’s Big Brother?" Noah asked, when he noticed that Lennox hadn’t come down to eat with them. Their Big Brother was rarely late for their meals, unless he’s trapped in a meeting with Gavin.
"Your brother caught a cold and won’t be joining us for dinner. You better not make trouble and disturb his rest." She reminded them, before turning her attention to Liam.
"Your three month suspension is almost up. Has Lennox arranged for the thing you requested from him?" She asked.
Ever since they moved into Jinxiu Garden, the children were showing positive changes, especially Noah and Sam. Even Liam was not as reckless and carefree as before. Adrienne didn’t know how Lennox and Liam got along since whenever she visited, Liam was mostly absent. She was curious if Lennox managed to keep his younger brother under control.
"Yes!" Liam looked happy this time. "He said that I can go and train to be a pro racer as soon as I graduate from high school. Brother insisted I should improve my grades and not just show him passing marks."
"That’s good." Adrienne was pleased with his answer. "If there’s something you want to pursue, you can tell me and your brother. This also applies to the three of you." Adrienne told Noah, Samantha and Scarlett.
"Now that you are here, you can focus on what you want to be in the future. Whatever it is, as long as it’s not immoral or would bring harm to others, I will support you. I’m sure your eldest brother feels the same. If people criticize you because of your lineage, you have to prove them wrong. Whether you’ll be successful in the future or not, it all depends on your effort." She continued.
Adrienne paused as she considered what the children’s aspirations were. Liam had already made up his mind to go pro in racing, but it’s not too early to ask the younger three what they wanted to be.
"Have you considered what you want to be in the future?"
"I want to be like Big Brother Nox!" Noah exclaimed, making Adrienne smile at his eagerness. "He’s cool and smart. I want to be like him, Sis Addie!"
"What about you, Sam?" Adrienne asked the young teenager.
Samantha looked bashful as she said, "I’m thinking of becoming a lawyer someday, Addie. I want to repay you and Big Brother for your help in the future."
"That’s also good, Sam." Adrienne hummed. "But you don’t need to become one if your only reason is to repay our kindness. Lennox and I did what we had to because you’re family. The same goes to the rest of you, so don’t feel pressured. We’ll be content to see the rest of you doing well in the future."
Scarlett considered Adrienne’s words. She also wanted to be useful to her and Lennox. When she was younger, she wanted to become an actress just like her mother, but now that their familial ties were broken, others might use it against her in the future.
"I don’t know what to do yet..." She mumbled dejectedly. "I’m sorry, Addie."
"Why are you apologizing, Scarlett?" Adrienne was caught off guard by Scarlett’s words. This girl had been sheltered for too long. It’s only normal that the girl hadn’t thought of her future yet.
"You are still young and should consider many things in life. I was just asking because your brother and I want to understand you better. You can take your time to figure out what you want to do when you grow up."
"What about you, Addie?" Noah asked. His dark big eyes staring at Adrienne curiously. "Is there something you want?"
Adrienne smiled genuinely this time. She patted Noah’s head and sighed.
"Why, of course. I wish for my mother to recover from her illness, for my brother to stay strong and safe and my entire family to lead a better life. As for myself..."
She lowered her eyes this time, trying to hide the murderous intent from them.
"My only wish is for the gods above to heed my prayers and let me collect the debt others owed me."
