Chapter 142: Change My Mind (1)

Lennox and Adrienne watched as Sam and Noah crowded Scarlett, asking their new sister various questions. They were pleased that the three were getting along well. Scarlett, though she looked embarrassed, was smiling as she answered each of her siblings’ questions. A familiar small white puppy was nestled in her arms as she laughed at Noah’s comment.

"Are you upset that we didn’t punish her mother yet?" Lennox asked. He and Adrienne were having afternoon tea.

Adrienne had been frequently visiting them and he was starting to consider asking the butler to prepare a room solely for her. Next to Adrienne was a pile of papers she was reviewing for the upcoming university exam she was aiming to pass.

"Mr. Si already explained. I’ll leave that to you."

Adrienne knew that if she was the one to seek revenge, it would be a messy one. She glanced at Lennox who suddenly sneezed and apologized to her. He looked tired, whether it was from his workload or because of intensive physical therapy, Adrienne wasn’t sure.

"Are you alright? You look pale today." She asked.

Adrienne felt bad that she was also adding to his long list of tasks by asking him to tutor her. She had once mentioned that she’d hire a professional one, but Lennox insisted on teaching her instead. She had to admit though that his teaching strategies were coherent and concise that she didn’t struggle to understand what he was teaching her.

To be honest, their tutoring sessions could also be their alone time. However, Lennox was very strict as Adrienne’s tutor and wouldn’t move to another Chapter unless he was certain Adrienne understood his teaching. None of Lennox’s siblings would dare to disturb them whenever they were together, aside from Noah who kept testing his older brother’s patience.

"It’s nothing, Addie. Gavin just left another paperwork for me to deal with." He sighed, but Adrienne knew better. He was stressed about keeping up with work, taking care of his siblings and to top it all the exhaustion from his physical therapy was starting to catch up with him.

"If you aren’t feeling well, we could reschedule our session today. You should rest instead, Len."

"No," Lennox declined. "This is the critical time for you, Addie. Once we have covered the most important parts, only then will I be assured that you’ll pass your entrance exam."

It’s not everyday he could see and meet Adrienne and he didn’t want to waste his chance today.

Adrienne chuckled. Lennox was so dedicated to their sessions that she was starting to think he was the one preparing for the exam and not her. Perhaps Lennox was also like this when he was still studying.

The two spent the next three hours in Lennox’s study, resuming the lesson they didn’t finish during their last meeting. Lennox gave her a few pointers to review at home while Adrienne answered the mock exam Gavin was able to get for her.

Once she finished it, Adrienne was about to ask Lennox something when she noticed the deafening silence within the room. She looked at Lennox and saw him resting his head on his folded arms on top of his desk, breathing heavily.

Adrienne stood up to check on him, only to see that he had already dozed off. His face was a little flushed, indicating he wasn’t in good health. She placed a hand on top of his forehead and frowned.

"You are burning up. You should have listened to me when I said we could skip our session today."

Lennox cracked his eyes open and smiled at her. "It’s just a cold, Addie."

He couldn’t believe he fell ill in Adrienne’s presence.

"Come on. I’ll call Butler Cheng so he can tuck you back in bed. I don’t want to be blamed by Mr. Si for your late output on your paperworks again." She grumbled as she started tidying the papers on his desk.

"Did Gavin tell you that? You shouldn’t listen to him. It’s our mutual agreement that I’ll do the paperworks while I’m recovering. It’s not your fault, Addie." Lennox reasoned out, but he was already too late as Adrienne had already called the butler using the intercom.

Butler Cheng arrived and brought him back to his room and with the help of a male nurse, they moved Lennox to his bed. Adrienne followed them and leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed.

"I’ll ask the cook to prepare some food while I get the medicine." The old butler said. "You should have listened to Madam earlier when she asked you to rest."

Lennox’s face reddened, while Adrienne’s expression had shown no change upon hearing what the butler called her. It was as if she didn’t hear what the old man just said.

Butler Cheng left but not before giving Adrienne a teasing smile. Adrienne was forced to step back as he closed the door behind him, leaving her with Lennox.

"You should rest. Don’t worry about the children and your work. I’m sure the children would understand why you aren’t joining them for dinner tonight."

"Are you leaving now?" Lennox asked. He would have invited her and Hunter for dinner if he wasn’t ill.

"My brother is still in the hospital with Mom. He won’t be here for another hour. Is there something you want to talk about?’ Adrienne pulled the chair near his bed and took a seat.

Lennox placed an arm over his eyes and sighed. He should have known Adrienne could already see through him. She had longed grown accustomed to his habits and mannerisms that she could tell when something was off with him.

"I’m wondering if we should mention the divorce to the children. I don’t want them to misunderstand..." He started.

"There’s no need to tell them. It would only make them worry. We’ll deal with the problem when the time comes. Don’t fret on it, Len."

Lennox removed his arm and looked at her.

"And you? Do you still want to divorce?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"I thought you’re going to change my mind?"
