Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 141: Forsaken (3)
Scarlett hadn’t uttered a single word since they left her, now former, home she shared with her mother. The young girl knew that her mother had given up her custody to her elder brother in exchange for money. She could only hold Adrienne’s hand and lower her head. What if her siblings didn’t like her too? She didn’t want to be looked down by anyone ever again.
The car stopped in front of a massive and luxurious mansion. Scarlett’s eyes widened in awe. It wasn’t like any other house she had seen before. The walls were mostly white with black accents. The place was also filled with greenery, giving enough shade and refreshing scenery to its residents.
"How is it? You are going to live here from now on." Adrienne asked after the girl alighted from the car, her eyes still fixed on the mansion before her.
"Do you live here as well, Addie?" Scarlett asked. She had yet to know who Adrienne was to the Qin family.
"No, I live somewhere else, Scarlett, but don’t worry, I’ll visit you often so you won’t feel alone." Adrienne assured the girl, before leading Scarlett inside with Gavin following shortly after them.
When they entered the massive living area, they found Lennox with Noah, who was seated on his lap. The enormous television was turned on, showing a video game that was in trend these days.
Lennox was teaching the young boy the controls of the racing car game Noah wanted to play. Samantha was also there, but she was busy with her phone.
"Here." Lennox said as he pushed the left joystick to show Noah. "You can control where the car goes by using these."
The three of them stopped whatever they were doing when they noticed Adrienne’s arrival. Noah immediately slipped down from his brother’s lap and went to Adrienne.
"Scarlett is here now. Are you busy?" Adrienne asked. She was a little surprised seeing how close Lennox and Noah were now. The two used to avoid each other, but now Noah could be seen hanging out with his older brother more often.
"Addie! You’re here!" He squealed in glee. His smile broadened when Adrienne picked him up from the ground and held him up. Noah had considerably changed since he moved in with Lennox and Samantha. He gained some weight and became more talkative.
Scarlett was taken by surprise, she then felt jealous. She wanted Adrienne to hold her too, but she knew she was too old for it. She couldn’t remember being held like that by anyone.
"Ah, it seems our little baby is growing up too fast! At this rate, I wouldn’t be able to hold you like this much longer." Adrienne commented with a gentle smile on her face.
"No!!! That can’t be!" Noah complained, winding his little arms around Adrienne tighter. "I want to be Addie’s little baby forever!"
"That’s impossible," Samantha laughed. "Once Big Brother and Addie get married, they’ll eventually have a baby! Noah, you can’t stay small forever. You’ll also grow up like the rest of us."
Noah pouted and glared at his sister, while Lennox and Adrienne shared a knowing look. The children didn’t have any idea that the marriage was only temporary. They had yet to discuss how to explain their arrangement to Lennox’s siblings.
"Addie is marrying Big Brother?" Scarlet asked in surprise. She thought Adrienne was a close friend of her brother whom he sent to get her from her mother. The girl had no idea the two were in a relationship.
"You don’t know?" Samantha asked her younger sister. She then gestured to Scarlett to take a seat next to her. She thought her sister looked too thin and short. Samantha wondered if Scarlett was really eight years old and not six.
"No one told me about it." Scarlett replied, before glancing at her siblings. She refused to leave Adrienne’s side, but when the latter patted her back and smiled at her, Scarlett conceded.
She then bowed her head and lowered her head to greet them.
"Hello, I’m Scarlett Qin. Nice to meet you." Scarlett said shyly. She couldn’t sense any ill intentions from her siblings.
"I’m Noah Qin!" The young boy in Adrienne’s arms exclaimed, raising his small hand to get everyone’s attention.
"You’re not the only Qin here!" Samantha laughed. She smiled at Scarlett and waved a hand at her sister. "I’m Samantha. You can call me Sam. That man is our Big Brother, Lennox Qin. Second Brother isn’t home yet, but you’ll meet him soon."
"He’s still at school? Liam isn’t trying to sneak out, is he?" Adrienne asked Lennox.
The man in the wheelchair shook his head. Lennox put the controller he was holding on the table next to him and adjusted the blanket on his lap.
"No. Liam only returns home late when he’s hanging out with his friends. He also frequently visits his mother at the cemetery. I think Liam is afraid of what you’ll do to him if he dares to disobey your words." Lennox replied, his eyes then shifted to Scarlett Qin.
"You’ll start attending school next week. I know it would be hard for you to adjust, but please do try to get along with your classmates." He told his sister.
Scarlett felt overwhelmed. From the moment she was aware of her surroundings, she always wondered why she was alone. Her mother was rarely at home and there was only a nanny to look after her. She was also homeschooled and never experienced attending school, unlike others. She always wondered how it feels to attend one.
"R-really?" She stuttered.
Lennox gave Adrienne a confused look but his fiancée only shrugged before joining Samantha on the couch with Noah still in her arms.
"Why are you surprised? We don’t have any reason to contain you at home the entire day. Leave it to your older brother." Lennox grimaced as he thought it had been awhile since he’d seen the world outside.
