Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 136: Scarlett Qin (2)
"Mom won’t allow it." The young girl murmured, unconsciously gripping the side of her light pink skirt while her lips slightly quivered. Adrienne looked at Scarlett and compared the girl to a baby doll.
"Why not?" Adrienne probed. "Having a pet teaches you how to be responsible. You need to feed them, bathe them, and tend to them when they are sick. You also need to give them proper exercise so they won’t get bored. Teaching them to obey you isn’t easy either. It’s like having a child reliant on you."
"But I’m still young too. Can I raise it by myself?" Scarlett turned her head for the first time to look at Adrienne and was stunned upon seeing her face. She knew her mother was beautiful. Her mother was always seen on TV, and many people liked her, but this young lady before her looked like a fairy who transcended into the mortal world.
Oblivious to what the girl was thinking, Adrienne answered, "Sure, you can. It would be easier if you had someone to help you care of it."
Scarlett then shook her head. "Mom already doesn’t like me. She would get mad if I took the puppy home. She would hurt it like she hurts me if it made a mistake."
The child’s words took Adrienne aback. Scarlett’s tutor gasped when she heard what the girl said. She gave Adrienne an apologetic look, but the latter dismissed it.
"Is what the girl said true?" Adrienne tried to rein in her anger; even her brother wasn’t impressed with Scarlett’s words.
While she had no problems retaliating and hitting adults, she would never lay a hand on innocent children. Perhaps knowing she couldn’t give birth to one made Adrienne sympathetic toward young children. Hearing from Scarlett’s lips that her mother was hurting her annoyed Adrienne greatly.
The woman before her looked hesitantly. She moved closer to Adrienne and held Scarlett’s shoulder. She asked them to follow her somewhere they could speak privately.
"Even I couldn’t do anything to stop her." She told Adrienne and Hunter. "If it weren’t for Scarlett, I would have resigned as her tutor long ago. Her mother... her mother doesn’t treat her like a daughter."
Miss Qiao had been working as Scarlett’s private tutor for three years now and she witnessed several things between Scarlett and her mother that could make anyone uncomfortable.
"You can’t report her to the police?" Hunter questioned her. What kind of person was Scarlett’s mother? If she didn’t want Scarlett, she should have left the child to someone who could provide for the child’s needs.
"It’s not easy." Miss Qiao sighed, thankful that they were out of everyone’s earshot. "Her mother is a public figure. It would surely cause a scandal. I am no match against her."
She said this in front of Scarlett, making Adrienne wonder what the girl thinks of her mother. She knelt beside the girl and cupped the sides of Scarlett’s cheek.
Despite lacking a maternal figure in her life, Adrienne was glad that Scarlett grew up as a sensible child. She and Scarlett were somewhat the same. They were both hated by one of their parents. Her father hated her, while Scarlett was despised by her mother.
"What about you? Do you still want to be with your mom?" She asked gently. Adrienne would need to ensure the girl was willing to leave her abusive mother behind to bring Scarlett into Lennox’s care.
The girl’s response surprised Adrienne, her tutor, and Hunter. None of them anticipated her answer.
"No. Mom said she hates me more than anyone. She said that I shouldn’t have been born in the first place and that having me out of her life would be her greatest wish. She said I ruined her life because I was born." Scarlett started to cry uncontrollably as she said this. "Mom would surely be glad if I was no longer in herlife."
The three adults before her had different reactions upon hearing her words. Her tutor looked at Scarlett with pity while Adrienne and Hunter’s simmering rage continued to rise. Scarlet was only eight, but she had already suffered such bitterness at a young age.
How could a mother say such cruel words to the child she gave birth to? It wasn’t Scarlett’s choice or decision to be born in this world. It was her parents who should be responsible instead. Adrienne couldn’t understand why Scarlett’s mother treated her this terribly.
Was the actress a victim of sexual harassment and had been taken advantage of by Lennox’s father? She wondered. Adrienne couldn’t remember Lennox or Gavin mentioning Richard Qin as a scum like that. If they knew, they would have hated the old man and cursed him to the heavens. Perhaps Scarlett was the product of unprotected sex between her parents.
Still, how was it Scarlett’s fault? Scarlett’s mother prioritized her career and reputation in the showbiz industry over her daughter. Adrienne knew it would be hard to take Scarlett away because her sole custody was with her mother. Unless that woman willingly signs away her rights, disowning Scarlett herself, it would be almost impossible for Lennox to take care of Scarlett.
However, Adrienne didn’t want Scarlett to experience such a daunting and traumatizing experience of being denied by her own mother. No matter how well Scarlett had endured her mother’s cruel words and treatment, being denied and abandoned was one of the hardest things a person could experience in life.
Adrienne made up her mind right then.
"Do you want to leave? I have a way to help you leave your mother, but are you sure? You won’t be able to see or talk to her for a long time after this and she will never be your mother again." Adrienne said with a straight face.
Miss Qiao was startled and Hunter took this chance to explain things to the woman and disclose Adrienne’s relationship with Scarlett Qin.
"If I leave, does that mean she’ll never be able to beat me up again?"
