Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 121: Being Stupid Isn’t an Excuse (1)
Adrienne didn’t mind striking a deal with Liam, but she wondered what he wanted that compelled him to ask her for it. He looked serious, as if his entire life depended on this deal he was about to propose. The defiant look on his face was now gone and was replaced with vulnerability and helplessness.
"Let me hear what’s on your mind, Liam." She answered. The slight widening of Liam’s eyes indicated that he was surprised by Adrienne’s use of his name.
He swallowed thickly and looked away, seeing the two bodyguards Adrienne brought with her. A young woman like her surely knew how to take advantage of the situation before her. Both of them looked like they were about the same age, yet Liam thought she was more reliable than she looked.
"I want to give my mother a proper burial." He admitted. "And I also want my older brother to find someone reliable to scout me to go into pro racing. He can do it, right? If he could fulfill these conditions, I will cooperate with you."
As he said the second half, his face showed a hint of shyness. He must have mustered all the courage he had to voice it out to Adrienne.
Adrienne stared at him blankly. Liam must have swallowed his pride to say these words to her. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Adrienne knew she couldn’t give him a definite answer. She pulled out her phone and gave Liam a quick look.
"Give me a moment. I need to discuss this with your brother first. I cannot decide this on my own." She told him.
Liam nodded and decided to wait. It was midnight, but would Adrienne be able to speak with Lennox right now? Who hadn’t heard of Lennox’s injuries from the same car accident that took their father’s life? The media said that Lennox Qin was left invalid and crippled for the rest of his life after the accident, but Liam thought otherwise.
There was no way that man would easily admit defeat. The Lennox Qin he had met five years ago was someone who would never take any shit from anyone who offended him. So what has changed? Liam wondered. He realized that the answer was in front of him. Lennox wouldn’t send Adrienne Jiang if he didn’t trust that she would succeed.
Liam wouldn’t have to deal with his maternal family if Lennox agreed. He never had a good relationship with them, and they all blamed him for ruining his mother’s life. When she died, her family held that funeral and kicked him out of their home. Since then, he had to sneak into the family’s mausoleum to visit his mother’s remains.
She was her son, yet he was treated no better than an animal by her family, chasing him away at every chance they could get. All Liam wanted to do was to be allowed to visit her grave at any time he wanted. It didn’t matter if his relatives hated him, because the only family he knew was long gone.
He knew that Lennox Qin had influence and resources he could use to fulfill his request, but would he be willing? Liam wasn’t sure, but as he looked at the young woman before him, he wanted to believe that his older brother would yield to his request this time.
He could hear Adrienne speaking in a low voice on her phone while looking relaxed as she stood on the side of the road. Near her, Hunter had stepped forward and checked her left hand for any injuries. Adrienne reassured him before shaking her left hand to assure Hunter that it was fine.
Adrienne suffered no injuries, but the same couldn’t be said for Liam. His wrist was still aching. Adrienne had forbidden him to race for three months, and even if Liam wanted to, he knew that his wrist would need some time to heal. Was Adrienne aware of his injury? He wondered. Liam shook his head. He didn’t think the young woman was a clairvoyant to know everything.
When Adrienne returned to him, Liam felt his heart racing. He hadn’t been as nervous as this in a long time. Did Lennox agree, or did he decline his proposition? Adrienne was right when she said he didn’t know his older brother well. Lennox could have abandoned him and his other siblings, but he remained to retrieve them discreetly.
"Lennox agreed, but he expects you to return with me as soon as possible. Are you willing to come with us?" Adrienne asked.
Liam released the breath he didn’t know he was holding. He didn’t know what he would do if Lennox denied his proposition. Perhaps he would get wasted on alcohol and die from intoxication. He would rather die on his terms than allow others to kill him.
"Alright, as long as he doesn’t break his words. I don’t care if he’s my brother, but he better not mess with me."
Adrienne chuckled before throwing her car keys to Uncle Shark, who easily caught it. He and Hunter understood they were done here, and it was time to return home.
"We’re returning to Changshi City, but find the nearest hospital before that. We need to give him a complete checkup before we can go."
"He’s injured?" Hunter asked before giving Liam a surprised look. However, it made sense to him why his sister insisted on bringing the young man to the hospital. It would do them no good if Liam was injured under their watch.
"He might look okay now, but it won’t hurt to be sure. Also, he’d been careful with his left hand since he stepped out of the car. I suspect he strained it too hard during the race." Adrienne answered.
"Ah, youngsters. They have the guts to do ridiculous things but are always unprepared to face the consequences." Uncle Shark muttered before extinguishing his cigarette. He returned to Adrienne’s car and fired up the engine, waiting for the three to join him inside.
