Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 120: The Bet Is On (2)
Liam didn’t understand why he suddenly thought of his older half-brother while looking at Adrienne. The young woman before him looked like a demoness instead. Adrienne Jiang was arrogant earlier because she knew she could finish the race and win it while he was waiting for something to happen on the road for him to die.
He was ashamed of being caught by Adrienne, but how did she figure it out when this was their first time meeting each other? Adrienne’s face and presence were so striking it would be hard for him not to remember if he’d met her before.
The crowd finally dispersed, leaving Liam with Adrienne and her two bodyguards. The rain finally stopped and the thick gray clouds in the sky allowed the moon to shine brighter this time. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"You’ll be going back to Changshi City with me. You are grounded for three months from racing. If I hear that you sneak out and do this without my consent, I’ll ask Uncle Shark to break your legs so you wouldn’t be able to race ever again." Adrienne said with a straight face, her tone leaving no room for discussion.
Liam was momentarily stunned by her words. He wondered what she wanted from him. Since she knew his identity as an illegitimate child of Richard Qin, would this mean she would use him to gain something from the Qin family?
Liam wasn’t dumb. He was aware that his father had died in a car accident and his father’s siblings were trapped in a fierce fight to snatch the authority of the Qin family. Jacob Qin might have managed to snatch his older brother’s place, but Liam knew he was just a figurehead and had no power against his uncles and aunt.
His eyes showed a glint of defiance at him. If this were the case, Liam wouldn’t allow anyone, not even Adrienne Jiang, to use him as a pawn. He would rather die than be caught up in their useless fight.
"Who are you? Who gives you the right to demand my obedience to you? Miss Jiang, I might have lost to you, but it doesn’t mean you own my life now. Breaking my legs if I disobey? Are your words the law now?"
Adrienne cupped her chin and hummed as she gave him an overall look.
"Not bad. I can see that you have the blood of the Qin family in you. You share the same temper as Lennox."
Liam was caught off guard when he heard her mention his brother. He never thought that Adrienne Jiang was related to Lennox Qin.
"You ask who gave me the right to demand your obedience? Let me introduce myself again, Second Young Master Qin. I’m Adrienne Jiang, your sister-in-law. Your brother asked me to pick you up and bring you to him for protection. You should have known by now how your father’s life ended. Do you think it’s just a mere accident?"
The Qin family tried to murder him and Lennox, but only one survived. This was what Adrienne was implying. Liam felt a cold shiver running down his spine as he thought of it. Even Hunter and Uncle Shark understood it clearly.
"Then what does it have to do with me?" He asked confusedly. Since his father died, the child support also stopped. Liam understood that the rest of the Qin family didn’t give a damn about him and Richard Qin’s illegitimate children, so he was confused about his brother’s and Adrienne’s intentions towards him.
"Another opponent to fight for the inheritance. Are you aware of the Qin Corporations’ net worth? Your uncles and aunt have been fighting one another for decades to get the position of the head of the family. Now that your father is gone, they would try to eliminate those who could stake a claim on the fortune of the Qin family. You might be an illegitimate child, but don’t forget you are still a Qin." Adrienne explained, her expression pensive as she waited for Liam to come to his conclusions.
"And my brother?" Liam asked. "What is his stand on this? Does he also feel the same as our relatives?"
Adrienne shook her head in response.
"No, but your father has left him in a precarious situation, forcing him to stand as your and your half-siblings’ legal guardian before he could claim the rest of his inheritance. This would also protect you from being hunted by your relatives. Lennox intends to bring you overseas until the rest of you are ready and strong enough to stand on your own."
The young man remained silent. Liam leaned against the door of his wrecked car and looked up at the clear sky. The dark clouds were nowhere in sight, allowing the half-moon and stars to shine brighter this time. The cold night breeze passed, ruffling their hair and clothes.
"I would have never thought the Lennox Qin I know would choose to retreat than to fight to the end." He finally answered.
"He would have done so if I didn’t interfere with his life. Lennox also knows that his life is not the only one at stake now. His six half-siblings’ lives are also in his hands. He could have chosen to abandon you and hide overseas alone, but he didn’t."
Liam scoffed. "He’s probably thinking of his inheritance if he failed to fulfill the condition."
Adrienne shrugged. "I guess you don’t know Lennox after all?"
"And you do?"
"I cannot say I fully understand him. He might be a selfish bastard sometimes, but he isn’t corrupted enough to sacrifice six children’s lives just to save his."
Liam considered her words and understood what danger was lurking in his vicinity. If she were telling the truth, it would only take a short time before the Qin family truly moves to get rid of them. However, there must be something he should gain from all of this.
"I’ll listen to you on one condition. If you agree with me, then I will cooperate with Lennox’s plans. Miss Jiang, are you willing?"
