Chapter 122: Being Stupid Isn’t an Excuse (2)

It was already morning when the four of them arrived at Jinxiu Garden. Spring was barely over, but the sun was already eager to bathe everyone in its warm golden light. It shone over the city, and no street peddlers could be seen around as everyone wanted to avoid the hit.

In this blistering hot weather, those who can afford to install air conditioners would choose to stay home, but those who can’t would be left to find something else as alternatives to relieve the heat. Those who could be seen roaming the streets were either laborers who carried things over their shoulders or had no choice, but to run an errand.

Within the Jinxiu Garden, its residents weren’t bothered by the hot weather. Despite being within the city, Jinxiu Garden was large enough to house several trees in its courtyard, allowing its residents to take advantage of their shade.

Lennox was going through a pile of business documents in the garden while Noah was busy munching on his breakfast across from his elder brother when Adrienne’s party arrived. Lennox lowered the papers he was reading and told the maid to bring refreshments for their guests. He knew that Adrienne didn’t have a single wink of sleep and had yet to be updated on what had transpired last night.

Noah, who noticed that his favorite person in the world had arrived, jumped from his seat and ran towards Adrienne with glee. The young woman easily picked him up from the ground and kissed his forehead.

His eyes caught a young man standing behind Adrienne, and he surmised that it was Liam Qin. Liam had his left hand in a cast, and Lennox wondered how the young man ended up injured under Adrienne’s watch. From what he knew of his fiancée, Adrienne had a high level of patience with regards to his siblings. She was careful with her words and actions whenever she was with them, so it surprised Lennox to see one of his brothers hurt during his first meeting with Adrienne.

"What happened to your hand?" He couldn’t help but ask. "Did something happen while you were in Shenyu Mountain?"

Adrienne sat next to Lennox and took the untouched bread on his plate. Lennox gave her a side glance inquisitively, but she only muttered that she was starving. Meanwhile, Liam was ashamed to admit his wrongdoings. If Adrienne revealed his intention to take his own life, he didn’t know how he would face his brother in the future.

"As for him," Adrienne’s gaze pinned Liam in place. "Don’t worry about his injury. Being stupid isn’t an excuse not to face the consequences. Since he acted recklessly, he should be man enough to endure it."

Liam didn’t seem offended by her words. He could only lower his gaze and reflect on his previous actions. He glanced at the young boy next to him and noticed the boy’s resemblance with Lennox. He doubted that the boy was his brother’s child and could only surmise that he was one of his siblings.

Meanwhile, Lennox was impressed at how easily Adrienne could convince his siblings. However, from his conversation with Adrienne last night, Liam had some conditions before cooperating with them. He wasn’t surprised because he knew something like this might happen from the start.

"Take a seat and have breakfast. You are pale as paper." Lennox told his younger brother. He won’t press Liam and Adrienne for details for now, but he intends to hear everything later. He rarely saw Adrienne lose her composure.

Liam silently accepted his brother’s offer and thanked the maid who served his meal. He stealthy looked between Lennox and Adrienne and noticed how in sync they were. Lennox poured a cup of tea for Adrienne as she continued to finish his untouched breakfast. They acted as if they had known each other for a long time.

Another young girl suddenly came rushing towards them. She was dressed in a middle school uniform and had long hair and dark eyes. The girl had a darker complexion compared to Lennox and the boy beside him.

"Big Brother! I heard that Sister Addie is here!" The girl exclaimed even before she could reach them. As soon as she saw Adrienne, a wide smile spread on her lips, and she rushed to Adrienne’s side.

"Sister Addie!"

Liam thought that his half-siblings were too clingy to their sister-in-law. Lennox and Adrienne weren’t married yet, but these two were already clinging to her like there was no tomorrow. At this rate, Liam wouldn’t be surprised if Lennox won’t have a peaceful marriage life in the future.

It took some time before Samantha noticed his presence. She looked at Adrienne and then to her elder brother, Lennox.

"Another brother?" She asked curiously.

"Yes," Adrienne answered for Lennox. "This is Liam. He is your second brother."

Samantha smiled and greeted Liam with a curt smile.

"I didn’t know Dad fathered so many sons. I hope next time Sister Addie will bring me a sister. It’s rather boring to only have men around."

"Addie, are you going to leave? Won’t you stay with me for a while?" Noah suddenly asked as he finished the food he had abandoned earlier in favor of his sister-in-law. Adrienne barely came to see them these days, and he was afraid she would change her mind and not marry his elder brother anymore.

"Why don’t you stay here and sleep, Addie? Uncle Reese asked me to report to the barracks today. I won’t be back until afternoon." Hunter suggested.

"Are you sure?" Adrienne was surprised that her brother was willing to leave her there. Had he changed his mind about Lennox?

Her brother nodded. "But I would like a word with Mr. Qin first, in private. Is that alright?" Hunter asked Lennox.

"Sure," Lennox answered. Now that he knew Hunter would become his brother-in-law, he decided to treat him better. "I’ll ask the maids to prepare the rooms for Addie and Liam. Why don’t you follow me to the study? I’m curious to hear what’s on your mind."
