Chapter 113: A Fallen Star (1)

Lewis Jiang and his second family had moved to a smaller villa owned by the Jiang family. The once peaceful and amicable atmosphere they used to enjoy was now filled with tension and despair. Camilla, who was usually prim and proper, was now confined inside the bedroom, refusing to see anyone.

Even Lewis was left helpless as he looked at his wife, thinking that none of these would have happened if it was not because of his unfilial daughter. He should have gotten rid of her a long time ago, but for some reason, Adrienne was way luckier than her older brother.

"Dear, do you have to be like this? We should face this problem as one and not allow others to ruin us." He told his wife as she remained curled up on their bed, looking nothing like the beautiful lady that captivated his heart. Now, what was left was the husk with the soulless eyes looking at nothingness.

"All I wanted to be is to be by your side, but even that I’m not allowed to?" Camilla sat up and yelled at him. "What does Rosemary Zhao have that I don’t have? What’s so good about that woman when she’s the one who’s taken someone else’s man to marry?"

She was already in a relationship with Lewis Jiang when the Jiang family encountered a financial disaster. Back then, Rosemary Zhao was the most sought after socialite within the circle. She was like a dangling piece of delicious meat in front of starving people. Whoever managed to marry her would surely be the luckiest man on earth.

The one fortunate enough to marry her would surely gain a lot of advantage in the end. Not only would the Zhao family’s influence help to further her husband’s career, even her business acumen alone was already a skill one could take advantage of.

Rosemary Zhao was someone who could save the Jiang family from bankruptcy, so Lewis thought that courting her was the best opportunity for him to save his family’s reputation and soar higher. Lewis had shared this plan with Camilla back then, and she was obviously against it. From the moment her and Rosemary Zhao’s path crossed, she had hated her deep to the bones.

She could only watch in tears as her beloved waited for his bride at the altar and exchanged vows with her nemesis. Her eyes flashing red upon seeing Rosemary as a beautiful young bride with a wide smile on her face. It should be her, marrying Lewis, but why did she need to give up what was hers to Rosemary?

The other woman wasn’t her! It wasn’t her!

They attended the same university and as they were the popular belles of their respective departments, people kept comparing them. One was a renowned beauty known for her elegance, while the other was deemed to be ’Cinderella,’ a beauty without a cent to her name. Camilla pretended like she wasn’t bothered by it, but each insult was deeply embedded in her heart. She despised Rosemary Zhao and deemed her as her greatest adversary in life.

"I’m already your wife, but why does everyone still view me as a mistress?" Camilla cried out. "The one who got between us was Rosemary Zhao! I should have been your Madam Jiang a long time ago if it wasn’t for her!"

Lewis drew her into his embrace, feeling guilty and helpless. He held her with a gentleness he had never shown anyone. Not to his wife, not to his children with her. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"You’ve suffered, my dear. It’s my fault you have to endure all of these." He murmured as he kissed her crown, patting her back to console her.

He knew that there couldn’t be any woman who would choose to stay by his side after he’d forsaken her. So how can he not feel anguished when he saw her like this? In this world, there couldn’t be any woman who would love and accept him as he was. Not even Rosemary could look at him with such dedication in her eyes.

This was all Adrienne’s fault! If only she acted as they expected her to, none of these would have happened! Ever since she reached her legal age, this daughter of his kept giving him a headache.

"It’s alright. The rumors are starting to die down and soon, everyone will forget about it. So you don’t need to worry too much. As for Addie, I will deal with her." Lewis promised her. He expected Adrienne to reach out to him soon once her funds were depleted.

A young miss who was pampered since childhood cannot possibly fend for herself for too long. Even if the Zhao family stepped in, he knew that Adrienne would eventually consider mending the bridge between them rather than causing further scandal for the Jiang family.

Camilla pressed her lips and allowed her tears to roll down her cheeks. She knew that Lewis’s weakness was her tears. As long as she had his heart in the palm of her hand, she wasn’t completely defeated yet.

That little bitch that Rosemary Zhao gave birth to would pay for it! She swore in her heart that she would be the one who would take Adrienne’s life at all cost. She had underestimated Adrienne and now, she was paying the price for it.

"She won’t recognize me as her mother as long as Rosemary is in the scene." She lowered her teary eyes. "It’s hard to become someone’s stepmother after all. I’ve done everything I could to win her trust and favor, but she still views me as the one who broke her family apart."

"It’s not that you didn’t try." Lewis answered. "It was Adrienne who refused to see and understand your concern. I would have never thought she would have the guts to disobey me and humiliate you to this extent. I should have kept her on a tighter leash."

His eyes flashed with contempt. Just like her mother, Adrienne surely proved to be a thorn in his eyes. He needed to do something to keep his other daughter under control. Unlike Elise, Adrienne seemed to have a strong opinion of others and wouldn’t easily yield to anyone.
