Chapter 112: Huayi Investment (2)

Gavin Si was known to be a financial genius in her past life. Even Alistair Han had tried to lure the man on his side, not knowing that Gavin was already Lennox’s right hand man. At that time, Huayi Investments was so popular that many wealthy businessmen wanted to be its client. However, to become Huayi’s client, one must have reached a certain status, and being wealthy alone wouldn’t be enough.

Gavin carefully looked at the young woman before him, trying to understand her intention. Adrienne was obviously in her last year in high school, but her mannerism and demeanor were like that of a matured woman. She looked so pure and elegant, but Gavin knew better.

In terms of scheming and tricking others, Adrienne was no different from Lennox. It was no wonder that she and his best friend got along well. If Lennox hadn’t met with that dreadful accident, Gavin knew that his best friend would have acted the same as the woman before him.

It was hard for Gavin Si to believe her. Although he was grateful that Adrienne Jiang had helped them greatly in retrieving Lennox’s siblings, he felt that there was something more about this young lady. She looked at him like she was fully aware of his identity, past that of what the public knew of him. She remained calm and quiet, with confidence gleaming in her eyes.

Adrienne noticed his hesitation. She then asked with a smile, "Is Mr. Si not convinced that I would invest?"

"It’s not that I don’t believe you, Miss Jiang. It is just... I have to be careful with this plan of yours. Don’t forget you are Lennox’s fiancée now. Lennox would have my head if this investment of yours failed in the end."

"How has it become Lennox’s business? Isn’t it me who decided to invest? It’s my money anyway, so I can decide how to use it." Adrienne replied, with a sense of authority.

Gavin could see that she had already made up her mind. He instantly knew that he shouldn’t judge Adrienne by her age.

"Mr. Si, please rest assured that I’m only interested in investing. I have no interest in getting involved with the management of the company."

This was indeed what Gavin was worried about. He felt that it was improper if Adrienne got tangled up in his and Lennox’s business and didn’t want to subject her to further danger. He took a deep breath and replied, "If this is what you want, then I’ll ask for the papers to be prepared."

"Seeing that Lennox relies on you a lot, it only means that you are capable. The Si family must have bad eyes for them not to see how valuable you are." Adrienne chuckled and Gavin immediately stiffened in his seat.

"It’s nothing."

"A pleasant cooperation then?" Adrienne extended a hand to Gavin to offer.

Gavin’s lips slightly curled up and gave her hand a firm handshake. "A pleasant cooperation."

An hour later, after dropping Valerie off at her home, Adrienne and Hunter went straight to the hospital where their mother was currently confined. When they arrived, they saw their grandmother Zhao tending to their mother.

"Addie, Hunter, have you eaten yet? I prepared some food for you."

"I’ll have some then." Adrienne replied, eagerly taking a seat and waited for the dishes to be served. She barely ate during lunch and could feel her hunger now. Seeing the appetizing dishes before her, Adrienne dug into her meal heartily, while her grandma Zhao looked extremely pleased with what she was seeing.

"Hunter, hurry and take your fill too. You must look after your health as well." She said with a gentle smile. "This old woman doesn’t have a lot of time left to spend with you. If only we had found out sooner, this would not have happened."

Hunter remained silent and watched his sister eat, observing the genuine smile she had on her face. It was rare for Adrienne to lower her guard like this, but he knew that Adrienne didn’t completely lower her guard. Like everyone else, she had a secret she was willing to bring with her to the grave.

Once their grandmother left to return home, only the two siblings remained in the room to accompany their mother. The hospital had given them the best room and accommodation for Rosemary Zhao’s needs and the security was tighter than the previous hospital.

"Why isn’t she waking up yet?" Hunter asked as he held one of Rosemary’s hands. Just as he thought he could finally reunite with his family, he found their mother in a vegetative state. The reunion he was expecting to have was far from what greeted him.

Adrienne said nothing and only stared at their mother’s face. Rosemary’s face looked serene and in peace, the shadows of death that used to loom around her were now gone. The drug to keep her in coma should have been out of her system now and Hunter’s concern was valid. However, how would they know if the drug didn’t leave lasting effects on their mother?

In her past life, her mother died when she was twenty-two, but since she managed to uproot the cause of Rosemary’s condition, things should have changed now. Her father and Camilla shouldn’t be able to harm her now that she was under the protection of the Zhao family.

"It’s uncertain whether she’ll wake up or not, but we could only hope and wait." She responded.

The doctor concluded that they had already done everything they could for Rosemary Zhao and it was up to her and the heavens if she would wake up or not.

"Mom, can you hear me? Please don’t leave us like this. You need to fight. I can’t afford to lose you again."

Hunter looked at her in shock. He felt that there was more to it. Adrienne wasn’t telling him everything and he was eager to find out what it was. Despite being siblings, Hunter still couldn’t meddle in her business.
