Chapter 111: Huayi Investment (1)

Adrienne wasn’t in a rush to leave, so she agreed to accompany Valerie to the nearby milk tea shop at school. As they descend the stairs, they encounter Raelin Xi, who immediately stopped upon seeing them.

Raelin froze as soon as she saw Adrienne. Their previous encounter was still fresh in her mind. She hadn’t forgotten how she was humiliated back then. She thought Ayla would defend her, but as soon as the others started mocking her, Raelin had been forsaken by her so-called friend.

This betrayal hit her too hard and now she was being isolated by everyone. No one wanted to associate themselves with her, it was as if she didn’t exist anymore. Raelin wanted to blame someone, but she knew she could only blame herself in the end.

As for Adrienne Jiang...

If it wasn’t for this person, she would have never found out how wicked and pretentious Ayla Jiang really was. If that encounter never happened, she would still be oblivious to the fact that Ayla was using her to attack others. Once she had finally calmed down and gave it a good thought, everything seemed to be clear to her.

Adrienne resumed walking, ignoring her. Raelin panicked and called out Adrienne’s name. Adrienne and Valerie stopped at once. Adrienne then turned and gave Raelin a cold look, as if questioning her.

"Is there something you want?" Valerie asked Raelin with a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Raelin met Adrienne’s gaze. "I-I’m sorry."

"So you do realize it now." Adrienne’s lips slightly curled up. "But you weren’t prepared to accept the consequences, were you?"

"I was wrong," Raelin admitted and lowered her gaze, as if she was ashamed of what had transpired. "I should have seen it coming."

"It’s good that you know." Adrienne answered before turning her back and leaving. She didn’t want to waste her time with Raelin. It had nothing to do with her anyway.

Raelin could only look at Adrienne’s retreating figure. Adrienne used to be weak and easily bullied, but there was no hint of that weakness on her now. She didn’t give a damn of what others thought of her and could handle herself well.

Raelin thought that it would be better if she could be as confident, or even just a little, as Adrienne. Perhaps she wouldn’t care less about what others say about her. She smiled inwardly. It wasn’t too late to change. She would never allow anyone to take advantage of her again. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Valerie ordered three cups of milk tea while Adrienne waited outside the shop, busy with her phone. She was texting Myrtle, informing her that she and Valerie would drop by at the cafe to see her.

Her thumb hovered over the keyboard, thinking how odd it was for her to be doing this like any normal teenager. In her previous life, because she kept worrying about her mother, the only person she hung out with was Myrtle. Had things changed for the better?

She was deep in her thoughts when Valerie stepped out of the milk tea shop. She lifted the bag she was holding to Adrienne with a wide smile.

"Should we get going? Myrtle must be waiting for us." She told Adrienne.

It was at that moment, a black sedan car stopped before them and lowered the window of the driver’s side, revealing Hunter. He glanced at Adrienne and gestured for her to enter the car.

Valerie’s brows shot up upon seeing him. She hadn’t seen Hunter before and only knew of the old man whom she’d seen picking up Adrienne before.

"You got a new driver?" She asked Adrienne before they entered the car.

Adrienne hummed. "Uncle Mo is getting old. He easily gets tired these days."

Valerie asked no more and knew that Adrienne wasn’t willing to disclose more. She felt that this man wasn’t just a simple driver-slash-bodyguard. She had a sense that Adrienne had a lot of secrets she was trying to protect. Since this was the case, she didn’t try to probe further than what Adrienne was willing to share.

Once they reached the cafe, Adrienne spotted Gavin in his usual place. She raised a brow and excused herself from Valerie, who was busy chatting with Myrtle at the counter.

"May I join you?" She asked Gavin.

"Please." The man gestured for her to take a seat using his right hand. "Are you feeling better now? I heard from Lennox that you weren’t doing well these past days."

"I’m alright now. Thank you for your concern." Adrienne answered, before glancing at her best friend, noticing the wide smile on her face and the glint in her eyes. It was impossible for her not to suspect that there wasn’t anything going on between Gavin and Myrtle.

Adrienne didn’t want to poke her nose into their business, but she was worried how this would end for Myrtle.

"I didn’t think you’d have time to visit this place considering how busy you are." She commented.

Gavin tilted his head and regarded her. "I try to visit whenever I have some business nearby."

"I was thinking about the investment you mentioned earlier. I have enough funds to invest now." She said, not wanting to waste this chance to discuss it with him.

"Miss Jiang, are you sure? A lot of money is involved in this." Gavin warned her.

Adrienne smiled. In her previous life, Huayi Investment was one of the best investment firms in the country. Most people knew that Gavin Si was the owner and founder, but in truth, he and Lennox had an equal share and authority in it. So how could she suffer a loss when she was placing her bet on one of the best?

"I’ve given it a good thought. I’ve received a part of my trust fund recently and wanted to invest half of it. I cannot rely on the Zhao family and Lennox forever." She admitted.

The only reason why she was able to proceed with her plan was because she didn’t need to worry about her finances and her mother’s hospital bills anymore.
