Reborn ghost seeing lady is pampered by her ex husband-Chapter 594: Trial ahead.
Waving his fingers in a dismissive manner, old man Rufus let out a soft chuckle. "That is nothing Rebecca, he just could not handle the pressure. That one is going to go back a class down; his mind and body are still adjusting obviously." He told her.
Students needed to learn how to fight in a chaotic situation. Battles were not always one on one, or two on one. Sometimes, a hunter could find themselves facing five or more opponents. They needed to have the ability to save themselves.
Even if they did not kill what they had gone to kill, at least they could make it out alive. A perfect example of one such scenario was Cillian's on the Island of no return.
After being ambushed by many enemies...according to Edward's recap anyway, he had managed to fight his way through and escape. If he had not been trained like this, he would not have stood a chance and he would have died.
Old lady Mayfair was still astounded and frightened. She was glad that Edward had barred Phoebe from joining the academy or else, she would have no bones in her body anymore.
The scene she and everyone was watching was barbaric. Students were roaring, growling and screaming. Fists were being slammed into each other, bones were being broken mercilessly. Most of the students were fighting with magic, casting spells.
Someone had summoned a stone wall, another wind, another was using fireballs to take out the competition by scorching them. A clever girl was floating above, conjuring phantom illusions, confusing the others as they could not tell which of the five duplicates she had created was her physical body.
Gravity did not exist in the brawl with hunters twisting in the air, running in the air or reversing gravity to pull others up or down.
"This is a nightmare!! How can you brush it off like it is nothing! Shouldn't someone go and help him?" Grandma Mayfair stared at the still unconscious body of the man on the ground.
He was not helped, instead, he was thrust out of the arena by boulder which led to old lady Mayfair clutching her heart. She was at least relieved to see a doctor tending to him then.
Maureen found her mother's reactions rather amusing. "Oh come on mother that is nothing, I once broke my ribs, left arm and an ankle inside that arena in a fight like this and I did not give up but rather pushed on. It was a group battle, and my group won back then. You don't get to be guardian without being ruthless to yourself." She spoke in a candace of a child awaiting praise, blind to how her mother's hands had curled into fists.
Rufus patted her shoulder. "Do not worry, he is not dead. Maureen is right by the way, a hunter that gives up because they have taken one blow to the head or broken a tooth is useless in the field. If you are ruthless to yourself, you have the ability to be ruthless to the thing you hunt." He told her.
"The spells they learn in the classrooms have to be tested just like they would in a battlefield." General Drusus explained. "How do think we get to know who falls under what rank? It's because of the points awarded here in defense, creativity and lethal intent." He explained further.
"It is intense, I would like to compete." Phoebe spoke out of the blue.
She had been watching an analyzing. She was sure that she could kick the ass of everyone in that arena without breaking a sweat.
"No!" Came a uniform outcry from many of the people in their group. Her desire to put herself in the midst of that chaos frightened them. She was pregnant; was she the only person that was not seeing that?
Footsteps echoed on the upper bridge where they stood, four men halted and offered Rufus a bow. They also acknowledged Maureen and Edward. Everyone else was simply looked over and dismissed.
"Sir, we locked away Professor Derek Cumberbatch the moment he set foot in the school just like you instructed, how do we proceed?" One, who seemed to be the leader asked.
"You did good, put him away with the rest of the criminals, their fate will be decided by the council tomorrow." He answered.
What he said was new information that the rest of the group did not have.
Cocking his head, David stared at his grandfather.
"Yes, it is quick but Agatha said it was best not to drag the issue and that we should punish them and continue on preparing to face against Azur or Ravana if she rises. A long trial will take up time and resources which is unnecessary as their guilt has been established. The best decision that I have ever made was making her head of that damn council." Rufus nodded, feeling content and returned his attention to the leader of the men. "Torrino you can go ahead and ask my secretary to spread the word." He ordered.
"I want to spread the word but my phone....."Old Lady Mayfair shook her phone, telling Rufus to fix it.
Maureen fixed it, she added them all on the academy network.
Grandma Mayfair and Jennie immediately posted in the fabulous chat group about the trial and urged others to make an appearance. These trials were often warnings to the founding families, if you do the crime, you will be locked up in a supernatural prison and do the time.
Another option was banishment, and the worst punishment was death by suicide of your choosing.
Meanwhile General Drusus and Amon excused themselves to return to their duties.
The tour was paused, and they took a break, finding seats in the arena. While they were till watching the combat battle or brawl, Phoebe asked her aunt how the interrogation with Ophelia had gone.
"About that." Maureen scratched her head.
The spirit pulled its brows together. "That cannot be good." It warned.
"I was doing my thing and then one thing led to another and suddenly blood came oozing out of her mouth." Maureen tossed out the confession like a crumpled receipt.
"What! What you mean by she died?" Phoebe asked, staring at her aunt in disbelief.
A shrug. "I mean yeah, you know I had her, she was about to confess to something perhaps her master's identity when suddenly she vomited blood and collapsed." Maureen let out a sigh of exasperation. "I was using a magic art to squeeze her heart so maybe I got a little excited and went overboard? Shit!" She labeled herself at fault.
"Who died?" Grandma Mayfair asked, what everyone wanted to know.
David moved closer to Phoebe. "Ophelia."
"You two should have told us the moment you came home." Phoebe spoke smoothly but her words blamed them.
David let out a soft sound and leaned his head on her shoulder. "I am sorry babe, when we came home, grandfather was revealing that he had almost been poisoned so my mind was shackled by that." He clarified.
"No-no, it is not your fault," She comforted him but glared accusingly at Maureen. "aunt I told you to take it easy! She was our quickest link to Ruth and this faceless master and now we have nothing again!"
Phoebe groaned. This was frustrating.
