Chapter 385: But We’re Friends Though

With his hands pinning hers to the mattress below, his body hovering over hers, chest bare, and his eyes staring deeply into her own, Roka found herself at a loss, torn between the way the current situation made her feel and how she felt she should feel under her newly-conjured, seemingly accepted position of "Best Friend".

Cero, on the other hand, seeing her body exposed so exquisitely and her arms, previously fighting against his grasp, now surrendering, wasn’t so torn.

For one reason or another, Roka had somewhat opened up to him. He couldn’t tell exactly what had gotten into her tonight or what was going through her mind, but maybe it didn’t matter.

He had known for too long what Roka’s fantasy looked like, what she wanted, desired, and craved... Too long for this position they ended up in to be simple chance.

She wanted him on top of her. She wanted him to pin her to the mattress. She has wanted it for a while now.

This shouldn’t be so difficult.

Cero didn’t lack in experience, and he could read precisely what Roka’s eyes were revealing, what they were confessing.

Yet, for some reason, Cero did find it difficult.

His throat was dry, his hands almost shaky as they held her by the wrists.

At the end of the day, she was his first crush in this world, and that brought along its own difficulties.

He almost chuckled at how nervous he felt.

Roka wasn’t saying anything. She wasn’t moving. Even her arms had given up and surrendered themselves to his grasp.

If he wanted to, Cero could easily break the tension, equate her lack of fighting for surrender, and tell her that it was time to sleep.

But how many times had he done that already? How many more times would he have to do that?

Green flags all around, it felt like.

So why not? Why keep going around in circles?

Everything that had led up to this moment was telling Cero to go for it.

He was close enough, feeling her hot, haggard breaths on his face, seeing her perky nipples fight against the fabric, trying so hard to hide and keep them contained.

Still, her face kept him guessing.

She was breathing heavily with her lips parted slightly, yet her facial expression was unreadable. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Any facial expression could have been interpreted one way or another, but a perfect poker face was difficult to process, and move past.

’...’

Despite the fact that she was the last person he wanted to think about, her words cut through the noise and sprang to the front of Cero’s mind.

As they did, his grip around Roka’s wrists tightened, causing her eyelids to waver.

Not being with a guy because he doesn’t want you is one thing. Not being with him because you don’t have the balls is different.

The words weren’t directed at him at the time, yet they seemed entirely fitting now. Even then, Cero knew they were.

People don’t get what they deserve, they get what they take.

Cero knew that continuing to act the way he had been won’t lead to anything. It will lead to more of the same, even if one wants more, even if both want more.

It’s not always a question of attracting the other person, of subtly seducing and pursuing them.

It doesn’t matter how much the other person likes you, how great the idea is, or any of that.

None of it mattered if you do not dare to go get it, to go make it happen.

Her words now fit Cero perfectly.

Unlike him, she had dared to go after what she wanted and, even worse, she got exactly what she’d wanted.

Meanwhile, Cero is still stuck pussyfooting around Roka, never fully going for what he wants, never fully committing.

Of course, the pussyfooting happened on both sides, Cero knew, but that hardly mattered now. It was entirely irrelevant.

The question isn’t "Does she like me?" or "Does she want me?" anymore. The question is "Do I dare?", and it had been the question for a long time, longer than Cero realized.

Waiting for the perfect moment is pussyfooting. Thinking that there will be a better, more perfect moment is pussyfooting.

"..." Roka held her breath in as Cero held her wrists tighter, forcing her hands to dig into the soft mattress below.

His face had been hovering a couple of inches away from hers for what felt like an eternity, and her eyelids trembled as the distance started to decrease.

His breathing had been more controlled than hers yet, now, she could feel his breath brushing against her lips.

Her facial expression remained the same. Unreadable. Impassive... Until his lips came into contact with her own.

Roka’s eyelids twitched, eyes opening wide for a moment before softening as he deepened the kiss, leaning closer, pressing harder, and more forcefully.

She closed her eyes, unsure of what was happening, what was going to happen.

Roka merely, and momentarily, decided to stop fighting, and to simply let it happen. To simply let him guide her.

After all, thinking herself and acting on her own wasn’t leading to anywhere good.

Roka found it easier to stop thinking and let him show her what he wanted.

"Could you freaking keep it down?!"

"We’re sleeping to sleep here!!"

The twins’ shouts from the other side of the door were no more than easily ignored background noise.

With how long Cero had been wanting this, waiting for this, he certainly wasn’t about to get interrupted so easily.

His hand slid down Roka’s forearm and made its way to her cheek, brushing it gently with a thumb while he kissed her.

"Mhm..."

His eyes opened back up.

It took a moment for Cero to pull back, and to feel the hand pressed flat against his chest.

"What are you..." Roka whispered, cheeks flushed, lips plump and wet.

Cero could only blink and stare silently.

"What are you doing?"
