Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 292: The history of the world [1]
Listening to Ren Nora explain his core ability as a C Rank NetRunner of the Code Phantom Specialization, a Shadow Node, Leon no longer felt the need to scoff at the slight smugness in his tone when he started.
’If I was the one with those powers, I’d be smug too’. He thought.
Leon finally understood what it meant to be the ’Glitch’.
Ren Nora’s powers already exceeded the limits of human imagination and mortal limitations, and once again, this told him that C Rank was the rank where Ascended truly grew beyond their mortal coils and stepped into the realm of immortality.
Based on the nature of his core Class Specialization alone, Ren Nora was literally impossible to kill.
The same thing applied for General Murphy, the C Rank Quantum Shaper of the Chrono Master Specialization. With his core ability as a Temporal Warden, just like Ren Nora, he was almost impossible to kill.
Compared to the two, General Sylvari Charr as a C Rank NetRunner of the Mindbreaker Specialization, a Neural Tyrant seemed underwhelming simply because unlike the other two, he was easier to kill.
But context matters.
The more time he had to think about the powers of a Neural Tyrant, the more Leon realized that what led to General Sylvari’s downfall was that he underestimated Ren Nora’s resistance in Iron Reef and came unprepared.
With Neural Tyrant, General Sylvari Charr literally had the ability to cultivate an army of puppets comprising both Ascended and Neon Beasts.
The craziest thing with this ability is that with some help, the General had the ability to subjugate even C Rank Neon Beasts!
Back when the war in Iron Reef happened, Leon didn’t know how long it had been since the General was a Neural Tyrant, but since then till now, 131 years already passed.
Leon dared not imagine the sheer number of Ascended and Neon Beasts that General Sylvari Charr may have subjugated over the years.
At the very least, he expected a million subjugated puppets!
With C Rank Neon Beasts being part of these subjugated puppets, Leon saw the Neural Tyrant as an Ascended that was just as dangerous as Ren Nora and General Murphy if not even more dangerous.
And somehow, 2 of these impossibly powerful Ascended were his enemies.
’I’m cooked’. Leon sighed.
Apart from his state of existence as a Shadow Node, learning about Primordial Hacking overturned Leon’s entire understanding of the Ascended system. It made him wonder what ability he’ll unlock at C Rank.
To him, C Rank were no longer mere mortals, they were Demigods.
Despite his thoughts, Leon knew that he could not escape the question that Ren Nora asked at the end.
Seeing the expectant look of trust on the General’s face, Leon couldn’t even bring himself to lie, not that he intended to lie in the first place.
Afterall, learning about Primordial Hacking validated Talia’s belief that if anyone was capable of helping him recover his memories, it was Ren Nora. She had this belief despite not even understanding the abilities of her leader.
But even without Primordial Hacking, Leon would have still told Ren Nora the truth. Afterall, he already told Talia about it.
"Yes". Leon finally nodded, confirming it. "I’m a human".
Ren Nora leaned back on his chair and interlocks his fingers as he looked Leon in the eye, he slightly raised his eyebrows. "How? From all the knowledge that I know and even from the book archives from the 21st Century, nothing was left of the world before Genesis".
"So how did you survive?"
"I didn’t survive," Leon chuckled. "I believe I was preserved".
Leon held nothing back as he revealed all his truth, excluding only the truth of the ChronoSystem. "I woke up inside a stasis capsule inside a derelict SpaceX facility".
"SpaceX?" Ren Nora immediately perked up. "That’s a company from before Genesis!"
"The founder was reportedly a Mr. Elon Musk, I read about him when I hacked and read some of the archives being kept in the vaults of the Omnicore Federation".
Leon forced a smile. "I don’t know him. Well, I don’t remember him, all of my memories are fragmented from the moment that I woke up".
"Since waking up, finding a way to recover my memories have been the driving force in my pursuit of power".
"Actually, it was just last month that I attempted my second Ascended Trial, and that’s when the events of 131 years ago happened". He chuckled. "I still find the whole sequence of events crazy".
"When I first woke up in this world, I learned about the 5 major factions and learned early to fear them, I never knew I was acquainted with one of the strongest Ascended in the world".
Ren Nora looked at him with a twinkle in his eye. "So you really are a relic of the past! How fascinating". His emerald eyes gleamed.
"When did you awaken?"
"A few months ago, less than 4 months".
Ren Nora froze. "Wait, you mean you woke up mundane, become an Ascended and rose to become a D Rank Ascended within just 4 months?"
Leon chuckled. "Now that you put it like that, it does sound crazy".
"It’s crazy!" Ren Nora exclaimed. "And here I was thinking I was special for rising through the ranks within just a little more than a year".
Ren Nora leaned back again, looking at the ceiling above. "Those 6 days in my Trial, despite how tense I was due to the events ongoing outside, those were one of the most peaceful and clearest days of my life".
"I really wish you could tell me about the era before Genesis, but sadly you don’t even remember what happened".
He sat up and looked at Leon again. "Have you found any traces to know and understand why you were preserved?"
Leon shook his head. "I’m still looking".
Ren Nora sighed. "Sadly, most records of the old era before Genesis are already lost to history, I’ve searched everywhere yet nothing points to a relic of the past being preserved through time".
"It would be really hard for you to find anything related to your past".
Leon pouted. "I know, you don’t have to remind me of it".
He glared at Ren Nora. "Instead of talking about such depressing things, tell me about the history of the world instead".
