Rebirth: She is Ready for a Counterattack!-Chapter 294 - 293: Discharged from the Hospital
Li Zhaodi is discharged from the hospital today.
This time, she is picked up by Li Weimin, Li Weiqiang, Li Xuemei, Liu Fen, Han Xue, and Gu Xiaoqing together. Everyone else is at home, getting it ready to welcome Li Zhaodi back.
When they got home, Li Zhaodi didn’t even need help. She walked in spiritedly on her own.
Li Qinghai had been eagerly waiting by the door.
Wu Fengying and Han Qi were also in the living room waiting for Li Zhaodi.
Gu Ruhai wasn’t home since he went to the market to buy groceries. The family planned to celebrate properly today. Originally, Gu Ruhai wanted to book a private dining room in a restaurant, but Li Qinghai wouldn’t allow it.
He said there’s no need to spend so much, as family isn’t like outsiders, and they could just celebrate at home.
Not wanting to upset the old man, and understanding that he might be worried about tiring Li Zhaodi after her discharge, Gu Ruhai went to buy groceries instead.
As soon as Li Zhaodi saw Li Qinghai, both old folks smiled and sat down. Having not seen her great-grandchild for a long time, Li Zhaodi was eager to have Han Qi bring the child over.
Han Qi, with a smiling face, brought the child to Li Zhaodi. Xiao Hu had grown a lot and could even stand holding onto the couch for a few seconds.
Gazing at Li Zhaodi and babbling, Li Zhaodi looked at her great-grandchild, filled with emotion, a thrill of life’s continuity. Anyone facing such a life-and-death experience would feel a sense of survival after the calamity.
Of course, many things were hidden by Gu Xiaoqing, but Li Zhaodi wasn’t a child. She knows things aren’t just what you’re told; she has her own feelings. Just because she doesn’t speak up doesn’t mean she doesn’t understand.
Everyone was laughing and chatting with Li Zhaodi, more lively than even during Chinese New Year. The celebratory mood started to spread at home.
The lunch was prepared by Li Xuemei, Liu Fen, and Han Xue, considered a sumptuous meal, and everyone was very happy.
Of course, if there’s anything unpleasant to mention, it would be Han Qi’s constant nitpicking, creating issues. If it weren’t for not wanting to spoil the mood today, Gu Xiaoqing would have thrown her out directly.
Han Qi has been tolerated for quite a while now. This period, the house has been almost unbearably chaotic. It’s not like Han Qi and her family contribute in any way; she’s always finding fault, complaining that this isn’t good to eat, that isn’t good quality. She even rummaged through Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying’s rooms when they were out and took Gu Xiaoying’s two bags and Gu Xiaoqing’s coat without asking.
Not even considering whether those things would fit her, Gu Xiaoqing chose not to speak up. During this time, Li Zhaodi’s illness had exhausted everyone to the point where Gu Xiaoqing didn’t have the energy to deal with such matters.
After eating, Li Zhaodi and Li Qinghai went to their room to rest. It was time to adhere to the schedule.
Li Xuemei quietly pulled Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying into a room.
"Mom, what’s up?"
Seeing her mom’s expression, Gu Xiaoqing knew something was up.
Gu Xiaoying could also sense it, furrowing her brows slightly.
Gu Xiaoqing had taken leave. It seemed every year during Chinese New Year, she had to ask for leave to stay at home. Gu Xiaoqing felt a bit speechless.
Originally, she planned to return to school in a few days.
Judging by her mom’s hesitance, Gu Xiaoqing immediately guessed it had to do with Han Qi’s family.
"Mom, if you have something to say, just say it. Don’t be so hesitant. Didn’t you call us in to talk about it?"
After hesitating for a while, Li Xuemei finally said, "Your dad and I kept 20,000 yuan in the drawer in our bedroom. Did you take it?"
Li Xuemei felt insecure even asking this, because she knew the answer herself.
"No!"
Both Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying shook their heads, immediately shifting their gaze to the door.
Li Xuemei shook her head, "Then let’s just leave it. Maybe your father and I remember wrong. It was supposed to be an emergency fund at home, maybe we used it sometime and forgot. Don’t mention this, you hear?"
Li Xuemei advised Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying, but all three knew that the money wasn’t misplaced by Li Xuemei and Gu Ruhai; it must have been taken by someone in the house.
Who took it?
Gu Xiaoqing doesn’t need to think much.
Who else but Han Qi?
This family, with them being out nearly all the time, and Gu Xiaojie not being detail-oriented, spending all day either playing games in his room or out with friends, where would he notice anything unusual happening at home?
Han Qi essentially behaves as if this is her home. If she’s bold enough to rummage through Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying’s rooms, she surely wouldn’t hesitate to do the same with Li Xuemei and Gu Ruhai’s room.
Especially during this period, Han Qi has rummaged through their storage room entirely, taking out good things like bird’s nest and ginseng that were gifts from others, and indulging herself so much that she’s gained a noticeable amount of weight.
Items like hams and sea cucumbers became Han Qi’s first targets to squander.
The storage room is already half empty.
Usually, Gu Xiaoqing and the others only come back at night to sleep, leaving them no time to worry about such matters. It was only when Gu Xiaoqing saw Han Qi one morning, holding a bowl of ham and steamed egg, that she realized the storage room’s contents were used by Han Qi as if they were her own.
Moving on from these matters over some food with relatives would be unreasonable; especially considering Li Zhaodi’s illness, it would seem too petty, even to Gu Xiaoqing herself.
Initially, there wasn’t time to mind other issues.
However, this time it involves money, money lost under such silent circumstances. It’s tricky since many people are staying there: Li Zhaodi, Li Qinghai, Li Weimin, Li Weiqiang, and their families, plus Jianhui and Wu Fengying.
If a fuss is made, Han Qi might start making a scene, blaming everyone involved, embarrassing everyone.
How can Li Qinghai, Li Weimin, and Li Weiqiang continue staying in Li Xuemei’s house?
Especially since Li Zhaodi just got out of the hospital, and her health is only beginning to recover. If she falls ill because of this drama, one can only imagine the consequences.
So Li Xuemei asked quietly, to prevent the issue from escalating.
Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying were speechless.
"Mom, let’s just say you forgot about it. In the future, don’t leave money or valuable items at home carelessly to avoid misunderstanding," Gu Xiaoqing suggested, realizing Li Xuemei’s family wanted to keep peace.
Li Xuemei nodded and sighed, "That’s the only way. Don’t let your grandparents notice it; we’ll be more careful ourselves."
Gu Xiaoqing and Gu Xiaoying agreed.
However, Gu Xiaoqing felt it wouldn’t be easy for Han Qi to stop. Once someone gets a taste of benefits, their ambitions might only grow bigger.
It looks like some precautions need to be taken to make sure that this person knows her place. Some leverage is required to curb certain thoughts.
