Chapter 729: Chapter 646 Awkward Moment

Leng Ning waved her hand with a smile, "Why so polite! It’s not a bother! Not a bother at all!"

"Hmm! Then wait for me a moment!" After taking a deep look at her, Leng Mo replied, "Let me finish this first!"

Leng Ning quickly said, "Alright! No rush, no rush!"

Leng Mo lowered her head and continued writing seriously, but in reality, her heart wasn’t as calm as she appeared.

She had anticipated that someone might come to talk to her. She had thought it might be Uncle or Aunt, but she hadn’t expected it would be Leng Ning, her little sister.

The office was extremely quiet. It was close to noon, and even the hospital corridors had quieted down significantly.

Leng Mo occasionally looked up to find Leng Ning’s gaze fixed steadily on her.

When their eyes met, Leng Ning quickly looked away, pretending to observe their surroundings, while internally pondering how to broach the subject she’d come to discuss.

A thick air of awkwardness hung between them.

Leng Mo was somewhat better off; she wasn’t a particularly talkative person to begin with.

Besides, having work to focus on kept her mind occupied with tasks, and in short order, she became absorbed in her work.

Leng Ning, on the other hand, was visibly restless, feeling that the air, aside from the smell of disinfectant, was suffused with an oppressive tension.

Fortunately, Leng Mo finished quickly. After a while, she put down her pen and closed the case folder.

She looked at Leng Ning and said, "Alright! I happen to have a bit of time. Let’s talk while eating!"

"Sure!" Leng Ning stood up quickly, responding with a smile.

She secretly breathed a sigh of relief—going out was definitely better than staying cooped up in the office; otherwise, she would truly struggle to find the right words.

The two didn’t go far and chose a moderately upscale dumpling restaurant near the hospital.

Leng Mo mentioned that this place had good food, and she added that she needed to head back immediately afterward—she still had several surgeries scheduled for the afternoon.

After sitting down, Leng Ning glanced at the packed restaurant, catching the aroma of food wafting through the air. She secretly thought the place must be pretty decent.

But when she looked across at Leng Mo, she opened her mouth slightly, suddenly unsure of where to begin.

She no longer had the sense of certainty she’d felt earlier when leaving Sijia’s house.

Leng Mo stole several glances at her, and after a brief silence, she didn’t allow her sister to overthink it and directly asked, "Xiao Ning! Did you come to see me because there’s something you need to say? If so, just say it!"

Seeing the unwavering clarity in Leng Mo’s eyes, Leng Ning let out a soft "Hmm." In contrast to her older sister’s straightforwardness, she felt she’d been a bit too hesitant. With frankness, she nodded, "Yes! Sis, there’s something I want to talk to you about."

"Alright! Go ahead!" Leng Mo carefully rinsed her teacup and utensils for her.

Their pale, slender hands were so elegantly graceful that even the female Leng Ning couldn’t help but feel a special aesthetic appreciation.

Although Leng Mo didn’t wear any makeup, her naturally cool and composed demeanor was extraordinarily alluring. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

After some deliberation, Leng Ning said, "I just recently learned about this, and I wasn’t aware before. Are you and that Yin Xian currently in the dating stage or still in the matchmaking phase?"

After pouring her a cup of tea, Leng Mo sat down and said coolly, "I suppose we’re dating now."

Her tone carried a noticeable complexity.

Speaking of Yin Xian, overall, she found him to be better than the previous, unreliable matchmaking candidates she’d had.

At least the two of them didn’t feel as awkward or out of sync together.

Yin Xian was mature, steady, and occasionally chivalrous. During the time they’d been seeing each other, he had yet to do anything she really disliked.

However, her mother’s decision to openly discuss Yin Xian with her grandfather had placed her in a very passive position.

She hadn’t even decided on what direction things might take, yet her mother had already made the decision on her behalf.

And because of her mother’s actions, she learned that Leng Ning’s decision to cancel her engagement with her fiancé had something to do with Yin Xian’s sister, Yin Xuan.

Thus, when faced with Leng Ning, who had just returned from abroad to confront her, she truly didn’t know how to navigate the situation.

"Sis! I’m sure you’re aware of some things. Actually, the reason I came to talk to you isn’t solely because of Yin Xian’s sister, Yin Xuan. It’s also because..."

At that moment, Leng Mo’s phone suddenly rang. She fished it out of her pocket and said, "Xiao Ning, excuse me for a moment!"

Leng Ning was on the verge of saying something but swallowed her words, nodding with a smile. "It’s fine! Go ahead and take the call."

Watching Leng Mo answer her phone, Leng Ning picked up her tea and took a sip, trying to reorganize her thoughts.

Leng Mo held the phone to her ear, saying, "Hello! Hmm!" After a few sentences, she added, "With my sister!"

At this point, her expression subtly shifted. "Where are you?"

As she spoke, she stood up and looked around.

Leng Ning curiously followed suit, scanning the area with her eyes. She noticed Leng Mo’s shifts in demeanor and asked, "What’s wrong, Sis? Who is it?"

She felt a vaguely ominous premonition rise in her chest. Could it be him?

Leng Mo smiled faintly. "It’s Yin Xian! He happens to be here, wanting to buy some takeout to bring to my workplace."

Leng Ning was instantly mortified. What she intended to talk about was Yin Xian—and more specifically, not-so-positive things about him.

And now, here he was, showing up of his own accord, in the very same restaurant.

What was she supposed to do now?

How could things be this coincidental? If she had known earlier, she would have vetoed this place and picked somewhere else.

But then again, thinking back, this still didn’t feel quite right. Ah, it was truly like losing the battle before even starting. She mused inwardly that she should have checked the almanac before heading out today.

Leng Mo mentioned she couldn’t spot him and ended the call.

Noticing something off about Leng Ning, she asked, "Xiao Ning, didn’t you have something you wanted to say?"

Leng Ning struggled to find her words. "Uh... Sis, the thing is..."

"Xiao Mo!" A warm male voice suddenly interrupted her.

Leng Ning lifted her head toward the voice and saw a tall man by their table, close but not too close. His neat short hair and silver-gray suit gave him an air of polished handsomeness and modern style. Who else could it be but Yin Xian?

Yin Xian might not know much about her, but Leng Ning definitely recognized him.

Back when Yin Xian and Wang Mei held their engagement party, she had witnessed that chaotic scene firsthand.

So, with regard to Yin Xian, her impression of him was vividly etched in her memory.

Leng Mo asked him softly, "Where were you just now? I couldn’t find you."

"I was over at the front desk!"

Leng Mo stood and introduced him to Leng Ning. "Xiao Ning, this is Yin Xian. You two probably haven’t met before, right?"

She was slightly embarrassed. She knew Leng Ning had certainly met Yin Xuan, but as for Yin Xian, she wasn’t sure if the two had crossed paths.

Yin Xian’s handsome face broke into a smile, "We’ve seen each other, but haven’t talked. You must be Leng Ning! Hello!"

His eyes flickered with a trace of discomfort, but it quickly vanished.

Of course, he knew who she was—Li Si’s dear sister-in-law, Leng Mochen’s younger sibling. How could he not?

Still, since the time he first met Leng Mo during their matchmaking session, he had already mentally prepared himself for circumstances like this.

He had always known this day would come, so now his demeanor was refined and natural.

He didn’t let Leng Ning pick up on anything unusual.

He thought to himself that if the one he faced right now were Li Si, he might not be able to remain so composed.

But living life requires adapting to everything, moving forward one step at a time, doesn’t it?
