Chapter 182: Confrontation (2)

"What? You found him? Finally!" Matthew excitedly shouted, surprising Alex with his reaction.

"That’s fantastic, Alex! But where is he now? We need to find out who sent him to kill Rory!" Matthew added.

Alex was stunned at his father’s unexpected reaction. He had assumed his father was involved as well, but it turned out that he was innocent.

He smiled calmly at his father before turning his gaze to his grandfather. He noticed that there was no longer any shock in his grandfather’s expression; only the calmness he could see in his gaze remained.

’Tsk! Tsk! Grandpa, do you seriously believe you can feel guilt-free after killing the truck driver?’ Alex thought.

"Dad, the truck driver is dead! We can’t question or retrieve any information from him," Alex said, his gaze still locked on his grandfather’s eyes to gauge his reaction.

"Nevertheless, we know who the mastermind is!" Alex continued calmly. His guess was correct; a shocked look crossed his grandfather’s gaze.

Matthew’s eyes widened in surprise. "Who? Who is the culprit?" he asked again, eager to know.

"Someone who is now sitting with us in this room!"

"Alex, you..." Andrew Graystone finally found his voice. His eyes trembled as he looked at Alex. He still refused to believe that Alex could guess it was him. freeweɓnovel-cøm

They exchanged glances in silence, confusing Matthew Graystone.

Matthew turned to look around the room but found only the three inside. "Alex, what do you mean? Who is the perpetrator?"

Alex ignored his father’s question, keeping his gaze fixed on his grandfather.

After seeing his grandfather’s hand shaking, he asked, "Why did you do that, Grandpa? Why did you kill her?" Even though Alex wanted to appear calm, his trembling voice betrayed him.

He was furious and struggling to contain his rage. If the man in front of him weren’t his Grandpa, he might have taken drastic action by now.

Once Andrew Graystone regained his composure, he smiled faintly. He refused to respond to any questions because he was confident in his innocence.

"Alex, I don’t quite get what you’re saying?" His brow lifted a bit, showing he was confused by his grandson’s words. "Who on earth tried to hurt Rory?"

Alex laughed internally. He couldn’t believe how quickly his grandfather’s calmness returned.

"Grandpa, I’m disappointed in you. How could you so cruelly take someone else’s life and continue to enjoy your own?" Alex could no longer contain his anger.

"It’s disappointing that you chose not to share the truth, even when I assured you I know everything!" Alex continued furiously.

Still processing Alex’s earlier comment, Matthew found himself even more shocked.

’Heaven! My father killed Rory? Why? Why did he do that?’ Matthew voiced his confusion in his mind while looking between his father and son, trying hard to avoid interrupting their conversation.

Andrew Graystone’s hand formed a tight fist as he asked, "Alex, why do you keep blaming me for something I didn’t do?" His voice was slightly raised.

He paused and stared at Alex in annoyance, trying to show his anger. After a few more seconds, he continued, "Brat, why would I want to do that to an innocent person like her? She is our family!"

"Stop pretending, Grandpa! This is the final time I will bring it up. You will lose me as your grandson unless you tell me the whole truth. And then you will become a wicked stranger to me. And you know what I can do to a wicked stranger!"

Alex said, visibly annoyed, his eyes fixed sharply and furiously on Andrew Graystone.

As Alex witnessed the shock on his grandfather’s and father’s faces, he pressed on, "I will erase my family’s name. I will cut ties with you and this family for good! My future child will never have ’GRAYSTONE’ in their name!"

The stillness gently fills the room.

Alex takes a moment to ensure his grandfather understands every single word he says before placing a printed picture on the table and sliding it over to him.

"I truly mean every word I say. To help you understand that I have evidence of your crime, you can verify it yourself. Please bear in mind that this is just a small piece of the evidence I found. If you continue to deny it, I will not hesitate to expose you to the public!"

Alex feels unable to contain his anger for the first time since entering this room. The hatred he had bottled up before has resurfaced, and he is starting to question why he should stay any longer in this damn place?

Seeing his grandpa freeze in a daze without saying anything, Alex turned to see his father beside him.

Alex feels bad seeing his father with the same expression as his grandfather. Still, he needs to fuel the fire for his Grandpa to make him admit his crime.

"Dad, this might be the last time we meet! Because once everything is exposed, I will announce to every TV and newspaper in this country that I will no longer be part of this family." Alex says, his tone filled with anger and regret mixed as one, chilling Matthew Graystone to the bone.

"Alex, why do you want to do this? Why do you want to sever ties with us? Son, please don’t say anything like that, huh!?"

Matthew Graystone felt a chill run through him at the seriousness of the situation.

If his father truly committed the act Alex claimed, the Graystone name would be tarnished beyond repair—the legacy would end with him. How could he possibly allow that to happen?

"Father, you must respond to Alex!" Matthew exclaimed, staring at Andrew Graystone. "Please, say something. Answer Alex’s question. Did you actually kill Rory?"

Upon hearing his son shout angrily at him, Andrew Graystone finally stirred a bit. Turning to Matthew, he ordered, "Leave this room. I need to talk to Alex!"

Despite Matthew’s reluctance, his father’s piercing gaze suggested he would not accept his refusal.

Grumbling in his heart, Matthew finally left the room. However, he couldn’t bring himself to leave the area; he stood before his father’s office door.

When Matthew saw Thomas Moon approaching, his limbs went weak. He worried about what would happen if Thomas knew the truth.
