Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 180: Honest to Thomas Moon
Chapter 180: Honest to Thomas Moon
"Uncle Moon, there’s something I want to ask you," Alex said, standing beside him with his gaze fixed on Aurora’s tombstone.
Alex found himself in this place for the first time without his heart aching. Each visit had left him feeling down and burdened in previous months, knowing that Aurora, the woman he loved, was gone. Forever!
"Want to ask something? What’s bothering you, young master?" Thomas asked, gently pulling Alex from his deep thoughts. "Why don’t we chat at home?"
Alex finally turned to face Thomas Moon.
His expression stayed calm and composed, yet he felt a bubbling excitement to share all the wonderful details about his daughter.
But his grandfather’s face flashed in his mind, instantly ruining his excitement. The anger returned, and his calm expression changed to something dark.
Thomas spoke again after a few moments of silence. Alex didn’t respond to his question, and his gaze reflected his feelings.
"Young Master, why do you look distressed? Is something truly troubling you?"
"Uncle, let’s sit over there..."
Alex walked toward the garden bench nearby without waiting for Thomas Moon to say something.
Once Alex noticed Thomas sitting beside him, he asked, "Uncle, it’s good to have you here. Anyway, I want to ask about something important to you. Please bear with me." He briefly paused to catch his breath before continuing, "Have you ever let my grandpa use your cell phone?"
Thomas Moon was taken aback when he heard Alex’s question. He echoed Alex’s curiosity, saying, "Did Old Master ever use my cell phone?"
"Yes. Please remember, Uncle... A few days before Rory’s death. Did he ever borrow or use your phone?" Alex continued. He had already received the information from Aurora and wanted to ensure whether Thomas Moon was aware of it.
"Yes. It was quite a shock to me. Old Master had never done it before. So, yes. I still recall the day the Old Master borrowed my phone for the first time. It was the same day when he signed the letter..."
Thomas’s voice trailed off as he felt his heart ache, remembering the last moment he shared with his daughter when he gave her the freedom letter he got for her from Andrew Graystone.
"Rory’s freedom letter?" Alex mumbled, voicing what Thomas Moon was thinking. He smiled when he saw Thomas gasp in surprise.
"Y-You know about it already? Did your Grandpa mention it to you?" Thomas Moon inquired.
"No, but your daughter, Rory, has been reborn as Aurora Spencer. She recounted everything that occurred that night," Alex said, yet Thomas Moon was unable to hear him.
Instead, Thomas looked puzzled as he gazed at Alex: "Young master, are you alright? Why are you looking in a daze?"
"I know it myself, Uncle." Alex cleared his throat softly before continuing. "So, did Grandpa really borrow your phone? Do you know who he was speaking with?"
Thomas paused once more as if lost in thought, trying to recall what had happened that day while gazing at the beautiful garden before them.
After a while, he turned to Alex with a thoughtful expression, "I don’t know. What I remember is that Old Master ran out of battery on his cellphone and wanted to call his friend, so he borrowed my cell phone."
"Why didn’t he charge his phone before calling his friend?" Alex asked, a bit puzzled.
"On that day, your Grandpa came to my house to give me Rory’s freedom letter, which was meant to be kept a secret. And that day, suddenly, he needed to make an urgent call, so he borrowed my phone."
"A secret?" Alex was even more curious.
"Yes, it’s just me and Old Master who are aware of that," Thomas paused, smiling at Alex before continuing, "Ah... I forgot, Rory, and you know about it too."
Alex gave a slight nod. Had Aurora not been reborn, he would have remained oblivious to it. This fact troubled him greatly—his grandfather was hiding it from him.
After a while, Thomas Moon gently asks again, "Young Master, may I know why you suddenly asked about this?"
Alex met Thomas Moon’s gaze before revealing what he had discovered about the truck driver. Unfortunately, the driver had already passed away, leaving no chance for an investigation.
Upon hearing the terrible news, Thomas Moon felt his shoulders drop instantly.
Thomas had been waiting for this opportunity, but it appeared they were facing a dead end again after the police stated that the driver had lost his way because his GPS was broken. He unexpectedly entered the Pine Hill area.
It was a strange and unreasonable reason, but Thomas had to accept it because the police could not find the driver who had fled the scene.
When Thomas Moon felt hopeless and believed he couldn’t bring justice for his pitiful daughter, Alex’s following words shocked him.
"Uncle Moon, I actually found the suspicious mastermind behind Rory’s accident," Alex finally shared with him.
However, Alex chose to keep the truth about his grandfather being the one behind it a secret, prioritizing his safety. He planned to explain everything to him once he could safely get him out of the household.
In a surprise, Thomas unexpectedly took hold of Alex’s hand and asked with a shaky voice, "Y-You what? You found the mastermind? Seriously, Alex?"
"Yes, Uncle... but I’m afraid I can’t provide detailed information yet. I still need to conduct further investigation," Alex explained carefully.
"Absolutely, please take the steps necessary, Alex. I’m here to assist with whatever you need."
"I will, Uncle... I will..." Alex feels awful seeing the old man on the verge of tears. "Uncle Moon, if I have the chance to ask my Grandpa to grant you freedom, would you want to live with me?"
Thomas Moon frowned in confusion. "What does it mean?"
"I want you to follow me and stay at my place, which is Rory’s house..."
Despite his confusion, Thomas Moon nodded, "I will follow the instructions, Young Master. If the Old Master asks me to move to your house, I will comply..."
"Alright..." Alex feels relieved.
They said nothing more as they finally left the cemetery and headed to the Graystone main house.
