Re: Tales of the Rune-Tech Sage-Chapter 608: One Heaven’s Final Death
CH608 One Heaven’s Final Death
***
Alex turned to the old man, One Heaven.
"Thank you for everything you’ve done for us, sir," he said sincerely.
One Heaven shook his head.
"There is no need for gratitude. This was an opportunity brought about by your own Fate and Fortune. And for me... this was merely a trade."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"I only hope that when the time comes, you will stand and fight for this plane."
"I will," Alex nodded. "I can’t promise that I’ll save the world, but I can promise that I’ll do my best."
"That is all I can ask," One Heaven replied with a faint smile.
His figure began to grow faint.
"Just in time..." he muttered.
Then he turned his gaze towards Alex and the others.
"It seems my time has come to an end. At last, I can rest—both in time and in death."
He let out a quiet breath.
"My original self has long since perished. What remains of me is nothing more than a fragment of the Heavens’ memories... yet even so, these years have taken their toll."
A gentle smile appeared on his face.
"Still, I am glad that, in the end, I was able to find worthy inheritors."
He seemed ready to fade—
But then paused.
"Speaking of inheritors..."
With a casual wave of his hand, beams of light shot forth, embedding themselves into the foreheads of each party member.
"I have passed on to you the legacies of the Emperors who stood beside me until the very end," he said. "Even if you choose not to use them, I hope you will pass them on to worthy successors."
His voice softened slightly.
"They sacrificed too much... at the very least, let their legacies endure through time."
The group nodded solemnly.
While most of them would likely not use the methods —given that their current paths suited them better—
Passing on those legacies to future successors was something they could honour.
Moreover, the old man had not specified who those successors had to be.
In essence, what he had given them was no different from handing over a treasury of priceless inheritance to Alex’s faction.
Neither Alex, his wives, nor his followers would be foolish enough to refuse.
"Then," One Heaven said, his voice growing distant, "I wish you success on your journey... between the Heavens and the Earth."
With that, his form finally disappeared.
Rumble—!
Suddenly, the entire Heaven-Earth Concordance talismanic field trembled.
Alex watched in real time as the Sigil-based formations began to collapse from within.
With the linchpin holding everything together —the phantom of One Heaven, born from the Heavens’ memory of him— now gone, the intricate Grand Formation could no longer sustain itself.
Its stability failed.
And the entire structure began to unravel... like a chain of falling dominoes.
In the next instant, Alex and his party felt themselves being transported through layers of space.
Yet, within that fleeting moment, Alex sensed something enter his mind.
’...Spatial coordinates?’
Alongside the coordinates came a clear image.
The mana vein cavern.
Realisation dawned immediately.
’Ah... of course.’
’If a mana vein of that scale were to collapse alongside the Grand Formation, the aftermath would be catastrophic.’
’Everything within hundreds of kilometres could be affected.’
’That would be no different from killing the Legatee after going through all that effort to find one.’
Alex quickly pieced it together.
The primary mana vein —used to power the entire formation— had likely been shifted into a separate spatial dimension.
And the coordinates transmitted to him, led directly to it.
A faint smile formed on his lips.
’Such a massive energy source...’
’This will be invaluable if I want to build a large-scale technological empire.’
His excitement grew.
If there was one major limitation of advanced technological development—
It was energy consumption.
But now —with these coordinates in hand— the immediate energy demands of his future territory were effectively solved... before construction had even begun.
’Of course,’ he added mentally, tempering his excitement, ’I’ll still need to design a safe extraction system to draw mana and energy from that dimension.’
He paused briefly.
’But that shouldn’t be too difficult.’
’After all, something similar already exists within the Voidheart Core. I just need to adapt it.’
Just as the sorcerers exited the range of the talismanic field, Ray suddenly stopped and turned back, staring into the distance.
"What’s wrong?" Lina asked, supporting him.
"The talismanic field..." Ray said slowly. "...it just collapsed."
His words stunned the group.
Almost instinctively, their gazes shifted toward Hiro.
The collapse of the Heaven-Earth Concordance talismanic field could only mean one thing—
It had fulfilled its purpose.
A successor had been chosen.
Since this occurred shortly after they retrieved the manual, the sorcerers naturally assumed that the book in their possession was the true legacy of One Heaven.
The atmosphere grew heavy.
In their eyes, they now held the greatest inheritance in the world.
One that could determine the fate of the entire realm.

Meanwhile—
Alex and his party reappeared at the location where they had originally entered the Heaven-Earth Concordance formation, not far from the rest of the Fortuna members who had remained outside.
But the scene had drastically changed.
The berserk humans, once contained within the talismanic field, were now free.
They roamed the lowlands below the mountain in chaotic swarms.
Their sudden shift in behaviour had already alerted the Fortuna members stationed outside.
Weapons drawn, they stood on high alert— ready to confront the threat.
The moment Alex and his group arrived, they quickly assessed the situation.
Understanding dawned immediately.
Seeing them return, the others were visibly relieved.
With their leader back, they instinctively prepared for a retreat.
But, the order never came.
Instead, Alex raised his hand toward the approaching horde.

Extinction Lightning Style — Heaven’s Punishment]
A massive spell circle materialised high above the swarm.
Darkness, Fire and, overwhelmingly, Lightning mana surged into the formation.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Reddish-purple-black bolts of lightning rained down like divine judgement.
Any berserk human struck directly was reduced to dust in an instant.
The Fortuna members turned toward Alex.
Their expressions filled with shock, horror and awe.
"I’m going ahead," Alex said calmly.
Without waiting for a response—
He dashed forward.
Charging straight into the horde below, draconic baton in hand.
