Chapter 37: Overload

In an instant, all of the energy fizzled out, leaving nothing but scratches on the metallic surface of the jackal.

The black square in the middle turned into a vibrant purple as the robot creaked loudly, unable to process all the power it had absorbed.

Sparks came off from the legs and the ground under it gave out, making it fall.

releasing energy

"I think I'm done here, I hope we meet again Leo Astralis."

The cloaked figure tore open the air itself in front of himself and passed through, leaving the Delta family noble by himself in front of his creation.

As the Jackal was falling, its core aligned with the spot where his creator and manufacturer stood.

He opened his mouth widely and was about to scream, but before he could a beam many times stronger than the one it had absorbed shot out.

It was so devastating that half of the entire castle was devoured by the blast in an instant.

Both of the summoners stood at the top of the castle, not daring to breathe as they looked as if the jackal had stopped moving after such a strong blast.

To their horror, it stood up without much problem and started crawling right up. Once it got close enough, they could spot cracks in the core, meaning their attack had somewhat worked.

"Let's try the same thing again!"

Another devastating beam from the serpent shot down, burning all of the remaining metallic arms and hitting the main tube system.

But this time the Jackal dodged it instead, crawling into the narrow ventilation shafts of the castle during the blast.

It destroyed the walls like they were made out of paper to get back up on the roof.

absorbing surrounding mana

All of their summons and the Slimy Pearl began to disappear as the core began to fill with energy.

"Everyone! Recall everything!"

The Jackal only got a little bit before they were fully recalled and just like Leo thought, its core didn't change color at all.

[All of you try to hold it in place for a single moment.]

Four of them each went after a different one of its legs, grabbing it tightly and preventing it from moving.

"Quick! We won't be able to hold it for long!"

Ruby shouted as Leo focused on his strike.

[Transfer everything into Magic + Sword sends two energy waves with each swing]

[Magic 216]

He ran under the creature, once under it he focused deeply before putting all his strength into the single slash.

Two waves of energy escaped his sword as he finished the slash, leaving him vibrating from the backslash.

But the strike did its job as the crystal glowed again, although not even close to the same color as before when the powerful beam struck it.

Right after, the Jackal threw the slimes away from himself and jumped up, its movement more sluggish than before as more and more cracks appeared on the core.

pumping up

Its legs began to move way faster all of a sudden, catching Leo off guard and almost sending him flying off of the building.

The summoner caught himself by creating a serpent on the edge of the castle roof which worked as a cushion for his landing.

At the same time, the four slimes were being massacred by the Jackal's speed and strength.

"Why did this oversized can got so much stronger all of sudden!"

Ruby shouted while dodging its claws. When she tried to go for another step back, she fell downwards.

Gloppy resumoned her in the middle of falling to get her back in the fight.

During that shortfall, she saw something that would be crucial.

[There is a lot of that liquid on the bottom.]

She told Leo, who understood what this meant.

He ran towards the middle of the roof where it was the least stable and shouted.

"Over here you oversized spider!"

It looked at all of them with tiny scanners coming out of its claws.

The sound of a scanner beeping filled the air as it checked who was the biggest threat.

Due to the least amount of damage being taken by Leo, it complied and went after him.

With a strong strike, it sent him to the ground and jumped on top, repeatedly stomping on him.

The ground below them couldn't hold his enormous pressure as it started to slowly give out.

All of a sudden the strikes of the Jackal got considerably weaker for an unknown reason to them.

[HP -92]

Now that they did, not enough force was being applied to the roof to make it collapse.

[Give it a push Gloppy, I got this.]

His hands felt like noddles at that point due to the heavy beating he had to endure, but there was still something left he had to do.

Gloppy ran up to them and sunk his cutlass in the ground which gave the final push needed for them to fall.

In an instant, the thing they stood on collapsed, sending them straight down into the black puddle.

'Shit! If only Fearmonger was here.'

'Luck'

Leo decided to let Lady Luck decide if his gamble would pay off or not as that was the only thing he could think of right now.

They were rapidly falling through the entire castle, passing remains of the metallic arms and the tubes oozing the black liquid onto the floor.

He looked at the Jackal which was also in a free fall, unable to save itself by grabbing a wall due to its size, it was also obvious that its core was now back to being fully dark, with no hue of purple visible.

As they were about to fall into the corrupt liquid, all of it got pulled into the core of the Jackal, filling it beyond its capacity.

To cushion his fall, he created a serpent at the last moment. Right after he fell on it, he hid behind its massive body in case the liquid sprayed onto him.

But it seemed as if the ooze was not interested in him, focusing on forcing itself into the small core.

It was visibly overfilling the core as it grew in size, the cracks became more visible until it all burst.

The liquid filled the room again, eating through the body of the serpent he hid behind and giving him a chance to escape.

However, he didn't escape as a trapdoor on the floor took his attention. It emanated an aura that made him way too curious to ignore.

'I shouldn't... but what if it was some answers...'

Time to decide was quickly running out as the serpent was rapidly getting coated in the dark patches.

Right as the patches burst, killing the creature, he decided what he would do.

With a strong pull, he opened the trapdoor and fell into it. Now he was trapped inside with no way out as the liquid covered the only exit from this room.

In front of him, he saw a desk with an open book and a lit candle. He decided to come closer, it was written in Japanese which was quiet shocking.

"Jackal project progress."
