Chapter 29: Gauss Gauss Gauss

All of them sat tightly on the sofa, only moving when they really needed to use the restroom, as Zeph had ordered.

"Touch anything and you will be dead."

To their shock, the calm and collected butler turned into a total psycho behind the wheel.

"Who do you think you are to honk at me you $#!€&@!!"

Her middle finger was already pointed at the other driver before she even started to shout.

Speed regulations felt more like speed suggestions to her as even inside cities, she drove easily 100 over the limit.

A few of the party members suddenly became very religious as they felt like their end was imminent.

Every outburst felt like playing Russian roulette, and just like in there, it got worse each time.

It took them around a day of nonstop driving to reach the south rim of the canyon.

As soon as Zeph opened the doors of her van, they ran outside.

"Thank god we are alive!"

Gloppy kissed the ground, crying from happiness and massaging his entire body to find any missing parts.

Leo looked down the canyon, seeing a gate crackle on the bottom and a small group waiting in front of it.

"Who are they?"

He asked the butler, who was the only other person not celebrating their survival right now.

She came closer and looked down, her demeanor changing back to that appropriate for her job.

"They seem to be from one of the smaller associations. I don't think we've sent anyone here."

She replied in a very calm voice. The summoner couldn't believe that she was the same person who was spewing slurs moments ago.

But now he had to focus on the mission at hand.

[Mind Archive]

in the crossing fields, a small monster in green ran wild, no one was ever able to catch him but the gold in its sack didn't stop people from trying

'Oh god, I hope I will survive this.'

"...Okay! Guys, we are going down."

With the use of slime bodies, they created a living slide downwards.

"You know it might be a different gate again right?"

Gloppy inquired while adding the final touches to the slide, knowing what Leo was trying to do.

"Did you go insane perhaps?"

Nyssa asked with worry in her eyes.

The summoner smirked as both of them questioned him.

He whipped out the Water Spirit Staff and summoned a small serpent, barely long enough to stand on with his knees bent.

Then he commanded it to jump towards the slide.

"I'll be going first!"

Leo said with a smirk as he slowly walked off the canyon himself, landing on the serpent's back like it was a surfboard.

Their speed kept accelerating, getting out of hand as he was no longer able to perceive the things around him, only things he saw were shapes and colors.

As he was about to reach the bottom, a sudden decrease in speech allowed him to momentarily see where he would end up.

Right in front of him stood the gate.

He accelerated and before he went through it, he recalled the serpent.

Giving him a momentary speed boost as he got shot forward like a slingshot.

[Entering Crossing Fields]

The other side of this gate looked like a thick forest.

"Marciele! I need healing!"

A bulky man behind the shield shouted bleeding buckets with each strike he had to take. The dozen swordsmen around him weren't able to push back against the giant hobgoblin blocking their way.

Even farther behind, a group of mages cast offensive and supportive spells on their team, fireballs flew everywhere to prevent the rest of the goblins from getting to them.

"I'm doing my best, so shut up and wait your turn."

She was certainly not lying, as her hands were full of healing spells she was trying to conjure at once.

But the damage was piling on faster than she could manage casting. And the rest of her supportive mages weren't of that much help either.

"If at least only you could also do that!"

Her screams terrified the attacking monsters just as much as her own party members.

Crack!

Their tanks shield split in half and he himself was left with a deep cut in his armor and chest.

"Fall back!"

One of the soldiers on the vanguard shouted, not knowing that they were being swarmed and escape would be impossible.

"They are closing in! We can't escape!"

Panic ensued between the party members as they began to frantically search for any way out of this situation.

Coordination between them disappeared in a moment as infighting and blaming began.

However, it didn't last long as the gate emitted a crackling sound which grabbed their attention.

"Backup arrived! We are sav...."

In a singular moment, what seemed like a ballistic missile shot right next to them.

CRASH!

A head-on collision rendered the giant monster dead.

"KILL THEM ALL!"

Seizing the moment, their leader, a man wearing gold armor, rallied them to wipe the rest of the goblins from the face of the earth.

Once the monsters were taken care of, all of them approached the corpse of the hobgoblin. Instead of a hole in his chest though, they found that from head to toe, he was split in half.

The dust from the explosion only now began to set. They could see that one of the four paths that they saw in front of them at the start was marked with a giant slash.

"We need to retreat and tell the association about this!"

One of the mages said while running towards the gate, however as he was about to go through, all Generals and the Warlord entered, led by Nyssa and Zeph.

"Who are you!? Were you the one who sent the missile before? How did you do that?"

He was asking far too many questions at once for them to answer. But when Nyssa heard about a missile she sighed loudly.

"Okay... where did he go?"

Then she looked at the paths deeper into the forest and clicked her tongue, already understanding what he meant to tell them by that.

She nodded towards Gloppy and The Fearmonger who also understood what was happening, the biggest path was already crossed with Leo's spirit sword which meant that they were supposed to clear the other three.

"I'm taking the biggest one left."

The slime Warlord said while stretching his nonexistent joints. Then he felt Nyssa's hand on his shoulder.

"I will take it."

"No!"

"Yes!"

They kept arguing for so long between each other that The Fearmonger passed both of them and went there herself, smiling at them as she did.

"How about you let the adults do the work?"

Her teasing words stung deep as both of them ran to the last two paths. Leaving the three gems behind.

"What are WE supposed to do then!"

Ruby kicked one of the dead monsters in the head. The group of adventurers looked shocked at what had just transpired in front of them.

"Are you a monster....?"

The same mage asked while aiming his staff at them, the red slime smiled wide from ear to ear as an amazing idea crossed her mind.

"I might tell you what's going on, if YOU take the 3 of us to the Tower."

***

Leo ran through the thick forest, dodging the hobgoblins on the way as they weren't worth his time.

He could summon serpents to deal with them, but that would slow him down.

"Let's see how fast you can run!"

In front of him was a small goblin with a sack of shiny gold on its back.

Even with all of the speed, he was barely running at the same pace as that small monster.
