Chapter 56: Taking The Admission Test

’Marry her! What I am thinking.’ Marx was horrified at his thought. Was he still the same man who considered women to be a nuisance? But they were still a nuisance to him, except for the young woman sitting across him.

"Go to sleep. Aren’t you taking the admission exam tomorrow?" Marx looked at Amaya with a deep gaze.

"Are you driving me away?" Amaya pouted.

"No, I am not. I am just worried that you might be tired and will not do good in the exam tomorrow." He breathed deeply. ’This woman, doesn’t she know how much I wanted to keep her by my side?’

Amaya stood up, went around the stone table, and held Marx’s wrist. He tugged at him gently. "Come, I will give you something."

Marx stood up and followed Amaya. He looked at the small hand that held his wrist and felt a warmth radiating from his hand and traveling through the rest of his body.

Lilia followed closely behind. ’Princess Amaya doesn’t seem to care about her reputation at all. It is almost midnight and she is leading a man to her bedroom.’

Marx reluctantly stayed outside her door when Amaya showed her intention of pulling him inside.

"I’ll just stay here and wait for you. It is not proper for me to get inside your room."

Amaya looked at Marx in confusion. Back in Miraga, they even slept alongside each other.

"Mr. Skylar is right, Princess. He cannot come into your room, especially at this time." Lilia shared her thoughts respectfully.

Amaya frowned. In the end, she went inside her room. After five minutes she came back with a cube in her hand.

"I made this from sandalwood." She lifted the top side of the cube and showed the inside to Marx. It contained barks and dried petals and leaves. The scent was subtle and soothing. It was the same scent he smelled on Amaya.

She took Marx’s hand and put the cube on it. "I hope this can make you sleep at night."

"Thank you, Aya." Marx studied the woodwork and he noted that on two sides of the cube, there was a three-dimensional carving of a tiger, and on the other two sides was that of the ape. On the top, which also served as the lid was an outline of a wolf made from tiny holes where the scent passes through. A deep red gemstone, the size of a pea was perched on top of the lid.

Marx knew that the cube was very important to Amaya as the carvings were of her animal friends. "I did not know that you can carve so well."

"My dad taught me some basic techniques. It took a lot of practice before I finally perfected it."

Marx reached out and patted her head. "I will be leaving in three hours. See you in a week. You have my number so you can call me anytime."

Amaya stepped closer to Marx and hugged him. She nestled her head on his broad chest. "Take care, Marx. I will miss you." She sniffled.

Marx stiffened.

Lilia was dumbfounded. "Princess..."

Amaya let go of Marx then she looked at Lilia with an innocent look. "Yes?"

"Nothing my Princess." Lilia bowed her head. ’How can she casually hug someone like that?’

"Good night Aya." Marx turned to leave without looking back. If he looked back it will be more difficult for him to let go of Amaya.

...

Marx left Asteria palace at daybreak. Prince Ibarra woke up early to send him off. Marx felt a heaviness in his heart when he entered the car that would send him to the airport. He looked back one more time at the North Wing of the palace.

’She is still probably sleeping. ’ He took out the cube that Amaya gave him from the pocket of the backpack where he kept his laptop. He closed his eyes as he inhaled the sweet scent. It was Amaya’s scent. His furrowed brows relaxed and he drifted into sleep.

...

Amaya was awakened by the light that filtered into her room through the window. She checked the time on her cell phone and it was already 8:00 am. Marx was already in the airplane.

She sent a message to Marx. ’Just woke up. I guess you are already in the airplane now. I hope you have a safe trip.’

Armando was waiting for her at the dining hall. She had a quick breakfast then she prepared the medicinal concoction for her grandmother.

They left the palace at 9:00 am and arrived at Lireya National High School at 10:00 am.

"So this is where Danella and Donello study?" Amaya asked Armando before they got off from the car.

"Yes," Armando replied briefly. He was the king’s steward. He can represent the king to some degree.

Amaya walked slowly as she tried to take in her surroundings. Armando paused to wait for her and when she was walking beside him, he told her that someone can show her around after the assessment. Upon hearing Armando’s words, Amaya did not tarry anymore but she matched the steward’s pace.

"Principal Lazada, this is Princess Amaya. I believe you already know her and her situation. She is here to take the assessment exam for ’high school.’" Armando introduced Amaya, then emphasized the word high school to clear any misunderstanding.

Amaya politely greeted the principal. Principal Lazada sized her up. He took the test paper for admission to Grade 7 and passed it to Amaya.

Amaya read very fast as the questions seemed to be very easy. She was done in twenty minutes.

When the principal checked her test paper, his eyes behind his spectacles widened. He rechecked the paper but the result was still the same. He gave Amaya another set of test papers. Like before, Amaya finished answering the test paper in twenty minutes. The principal checked her test paper. When he saw the results after checking two times, his eyes became even bigger.

"This is another set of test papers for you Princess. Please answer them."

While Amaya was answering the test paper, Armando pulled the principal to a corner and asked sternly. "Is there a problem Mr. Lazada? Why have you given three sets of exams?"

"Oh no, no, no. There is no problem at all Steward Armando." The principal assured him.

"I am done answering Principal Lazada." Amaya stretched out her hand and passed the papers to the principal. He accepted it excitedly and started checking the results. Beads of perspiration formed on his forehead and he wiped them with the back of his hand.

"Impossible! This is totally unheard of."
