Chapter 54: The University

"Marx!" Amaya repeated a second time and she was breathless. His face was too close that she could see her own eyes reflected in his two orbs of ocean blue. She could smell the familiar mix of scents of sandalwood, cedar, musk, and patchouli.

Marx jolted and was brought back to his senses. It took a lot of willpower for him to lift his body away from her. He kneeled beside her and extended his hand toward her.

"Did I hurt you? I am sorry I was not able to carry your weight." Marx’s face reddened out of embarrassment. His face was flushed after the intimate encounter with Amaya.

"I am not hurt. It is my fault. I think you were not yet ready when I pulled myself up."

He stood up again and helped Aryana to her feet. Then they walked side by side in silence. Both Amaya and Marx were thinking of the incident earlier. Amaya could not understand how she felt but she tried to push it at the back of her mind. She started walking in big strides to catch up with Marx.

Marx’s thoughts were all over the place. He almost lost it and kissed Amaya just like the time in Miraga when he gave in to his instincts and claimed her lips. He only realized that he was walking fast when Amaya almost jogged just to be at his side. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Sorry," he mumbled and slowed down to match Amaya’s pace.

"Phew. I thought you are going to leave me behind. Are you angry at me?" Amaya asked panting.

Marx paused to allow her to catch her breath. "I am not angry." His voice was gentle and soothing. He reached out and flicked a leaf that stuck to her hair. He then tucked a strand of stray hair to the back of her ear. He gave her a gentle smile but sighed inwardly. Amaya was getting more beautiful by the day and right now she is like a beautiful flower that blooms in spring.

From the Anishton Estate, Dave led them to Luxe Mall, one of the famous high-end malls in Lireya. Marx handed Amaya sunglasses which she received gladly. She put it on and because it was big, it covered most of her face.

They took the escalator to the second floor. Amaya’s royal guards and Marx’s bodyguards secretly followed them from behind.

"This is the shop that you asked me to lease Marx," Dave spoke after he stopped in front of a shop that was being renovated. "We cannot go inside as it is still messy and dusty."

"Marx, I’d like to change the name of the store. Can I still change it? I’d like to call it DI’s Treasures in honor of my parents." She looked at Marx expectantly.

"Sure, you can call it whatever you want."

Dave sneered at Marx. When did he become so accommodating?

"Isn’t that Princess Amaya, the lost princess of Lireya who was recently rescued from an island?" Even with big sunglasses on, her beauty is still very apparent."

The moment one person mentioned her name, curious onlookers started to gather around. Some bold ones took their selfies, with the princess and her companions as the backdrop. Some tried to get closer to ask for her autograph and have a photo with her but the royal guards did not allow them to come closer.

A group of high school students became excited and successfully pushed their way through the guards and reached Amaya. A few notebooks and pens were shoved right in front of her face.

"Princess Amaya, can you sign this for me?"

"You are so beautiful up close."

Marx and Dave whisked her away from the crowd that has become unruly.

"I didn’t know that you are that popular, Princess. I shouldn’t have brought you here. To think that this is a high-end mall. You have a lot of fans in a short time." Dave said in a teasing manner as he led the way to a side exit where their black Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was waiting for them.

Amaya was silent as she got into the vehicle. She threw a quick look at the way they had come. It was her first time being mobbed by so many people.

"What is wrong with them? Why did they do that?"

"Some crazy fans. I don’t know what they are thinking." Marx muttered under his breath. "Let us go back."

"Look! Your photos at Luxe are already on the internet" Dave who was seating in the passenger seat looked back and passed his cell phone to Amaya.

Amaya took a quick look. She passed it back to Dave and used her own phone to search. Indeed, a few of her photos at the mall were already uploaded. Someone even took a video where the students rushed toward her.

"You should avoid crowded places in the meantime Aya,"

Amaya nodded perfunctorily. Her attention was on the scenery outside.

"What is that?" Her fingers pointed to an imposing five-story building a kilometer away from a massive iron gate. The building has a turret on each corner giving the impression that it looked like a castle but not. Magnificent trees lined the two-lane road from the gate to the building. Judging by the hugeness of the trunk and the depth of the crown of the trees, they should have been around for several decades.

The front of the building was a beauty to behold even from afar because of the blooming flowers of different colors that made up the garden. Beyond the fence that seemed to stretch for more than a kilometer was a carpet of green.

"Oh, that’s Lireyan Alpha University, the premiere university in the country," Dave answered matter-of-factly.

Amaya’s eyes sparkled. "What a beautiful place. I should study there."

"You need to graduate from high school first." Dave reminded her.

Amaya typed something on her cell phone. "I can take an acceleration exam." She said confidently.

Dave looked at her doubtfully. She seemed smart but she has never been to school. How can she go to a university?

"With your background, I am pretty sure it will not be difficult for you to enter college. Ask your father to help you get admission to senior high school."

Amaya looked at Marx briefly and nodded. She continued her research on Lireya’s educational system. She found out that based on her age she should be in Grade 11.

Classes for the school year has already started and she was a month late. She frowned. Can she still start school?
