Raised From The Wild-Chapter 255: They Found The Princess
Marx took out a wet tissue from his pocket and he meticulously wiped her face and the hand the wolf licked. It was still evening and taking a bath in the river would be very dangerous. But he did not want the scent and the saliva of the wolf to linger on Amaya’s body.
Marx has already tolerated Amaya’s pets but a beast who treated his girlfriend as his mate was something he could not accept. His face was filled with gloom but he could not be angry at Amaya. It was good that the wolf had died.
He let Amaya lean on his chest and cried until she finally calmed down.
"Why did you cry so much for him?" Marx was annoyed.
"It was not him that I was crying about. I pity all of them who became victims of the scientist’s twisted mind."
Amaya lifted her head and looked at Marx with bright eyes that glistened because of the tears that she just shed.
"Do you think the anomaly here is related to what happened in Verde Island?"
"I think so." Marx furrowed his brows as if thinking of something.
"I have to take this up with Grandpa. Who could be behind this? What does the mastermind want to achieve?"
"There can only be two things, Aya. Power and Wealth."
"Yeah!" Amaya replied absent-mindedly as she gazed at the flickering embers from the fire that burned the monster.
...
Hours ago, at the time when Marx, Vasquez, and Amaya crossed the river, a group of mountaineers, mercenaries, and soldiers decided to pack up and leave Mount Paraiso when they first heard the first howl. They entered the foot of Mount Paraiso during the day but they did not dare go deeper. Even at the foot of the mountain, they encountered poisonous snakes and big spiders and a few of them were bitten and died.
"Everyone, let us go back to our base camp in Mount Janai. It is safer there." The General issued the command.
They were given a mission of looking for the Princess Of Lireya. Since they did not have success today, the general became gloomy. He believed that those three people who entered Mount Paraiso were already dead, ravaged by the beasts of the mysterious mountain.
’Was the princess stupid? Why did she enter a dangerous mountain?’ He silently cursed at the game master who teased the hunters with the mythical animals that can be found in Paraiso.
The general sighed. If the princess died in Ra-iya’s territory, would Lireya wage a war? It was a good thing that their new queen was also from Lireya royalty.
"General, the King is calling you on the satellite phone." a soldier passed him a satellite phone.
King Ralden: "Did you find her?"
General: "I’m sorry, Your Majesty. We did not find the princess. We started with the periphery of Mount Paraiso and checked the area within 10 kilometers of the foot of the mountain but did not find the three of them. We encountered poisonous snakes and spiders as big as a human fist. Five of our people died."
King Ralden: "You useless piece of trash! Did you not even find clues? Don’t come back if you can’t bring her back. King Duncan’s elite guards are on their way. You should find the princess before they arrive. Don’t disappoint me."
The general held his breath as he continued to listen to the king’s berating. He finally released a deep breath when he hung up.
He looked at the foreboding mountain opposite them, and then he took his cell phone and looked at the photo of his wife and son. He was afraid that he would never see them again. This mission was a death warrant for him.
After an early dinner, the general was resting in his tent. Several soldiers were guarding the perimeter when they heard a high-frequency sound followed by the chaos caused by the animals fleeing in all directions.
"General, there is a disturbance to our west." An anxious soldier reported.
The general’s grip tightened on his cell phone. His end was near.
"Is that related to the monsters? But we are already outside Mount Paraiso and Mount Janai is generally peaceful."
The general went outside his tent. Gloom and the low morale of the soldiers greeted him.
"What is wrong with you? Go to your post and be alert."
As the leader of the group, the general showed an imposing aura. He felt suffocated knowing that he would meet his doom soon but he would never show a sign of weakness to his subordinates.
His eyes were trained on the west when he suddenly saw blue beams shoot up to the sky followed by a loud howl of an animal that was in pain.
"Did you see that blue beam? It’s just about a kilometer from our base." The general said excitedly. Could it be the king sent reinforcement with high-tech weapons to search for the princess? Or could it be the elite guards from Lireya?
The general dare not shift his gaze. The other guards who were not in charge of watching the perimeter were all looking toward the west.
Suddenly echoes of gunshots reached their ears and after a few minutes there was an eerie silence. Even the crickets stopped chirping.
"Captain, take a dozen of your best men and go investigate what happened over there." the general commanded sternly.
"Yes, General!" The captain replied with respect. He selected ten of the best soldiers and two guides.
They decided to walk along the bank of the river because that would be the safest way for them. The guide at the front and the two soldiers at the back had torches attached to their bull cap while the rest carried their own pocket flashlights.
After a few minutes of walking, they finally came to a clearing. From afar, they could see two bonfires and the silhouette of two men, one taller than the other. Beside the taller one, was a silhouette who was a head shorter than the tall man.
"Captain, could it be the missing princess?"
