Raised From The Wild-Chapter 254: All I Wanted Is My Mate
The wolf snarled. While he did not have the ability to speak like humans, he could understand human language. He understood what the warning was about.
He picked up the rock once again and threw it in the same spot earlier.
"Warning! The shield has been breached! Evacuate now!"
"Shoot! Aim for the heart!" Marx commanded calmly.
Gunshots rang and swallowed the symphony of the nocturnal animals.
The wolf howled. He was taken off guard by the weapons that the humans used. He thought that he was invincible. Wasn’t he shot before by the same type of weapon? It did not penetrate its thick fur and skin.
However, he felt tremendous pain in his chest. He covered it with both of his hands but even his hands were in pain. He staggered forward while the humans stepped back. They continued firing at him until their weapons ran out of bullets.
He tried to step forward but his legs felt like lead and were very heavy. He fell and used his two front legs to support his body. He was crawling on all fours as blood continued pouring from his bullet-riddled chest.
He whimpered as his vision began to blur. Then, his sense of smell heightened. He smelled the sweet scent of his mate, Lana!
"Lana, my mate you finally came back to me. Did you know that I missed you so much?" He whimpered as he continued to crawl slowly to where Amaya was standing.
Marx shielded Amaya at the same that he stuffed the bullets in his gun. Vasquez was doing the same thing.
"No, don’t shoot. He is already dying." Amaya pleaded. She came in between the two men and the wolf. She walked forward and fearlessly approached the wolf.
"Aya, stop! Don’t you see how dangerous he is?" Marx could not understand how could she be so brave when she was shaking from fear moments ago.
"Don’t worry, Marx! I know what I am doing. He has no strength left. He cannot hurt me."
Amaya was already kneeling beside the wolf. Marx wanted to pull her away but she looked at him with a pleading look. Marx stopped.
"You are so heavy. Can you turn around?" Amaya coaxed the wolf gently.
The wolf used his remaining strength to turn his body around exposing his wounded chest to her. Amaya held both of his big hands and tried to press it on his chest to somehow stop the bleeding. She left her other hand resting on his chest while she used the right hand to gently stoke the area near his nose.
The wolf stuck his tongue and licked Amaya’s hand. It tasted like his mate Lana.
"Lana, I am happy that you came back. No one can ever take you away from me now, my mate." he whimpered.
Amaya bent down and gazed into his amber eyes. In the flickering of the bonfire, her eyes were also like amber. The wolf looked into her eyes without blinking as he continued to lick her hand.
Marx and Vasquez were helpless. They could not understand what was going on with Amaya, though Marx was pretty sure that she was communicating with the wolf.
"I was so angry with Father when he let his friends cut you open so I killed them all. All I ever wanted was to be with you and have our pups but they did not let us, that is why I hate them and their kind. Do you blame me for the things I did? I killed a lot of humans who entered our territory."
"No, I don’t blame you. Please stop talking. You are in pain."
"No, I am not in pain because I finally see you, my mate. Even If I die, I die happily. You smell so sweet, my love. I missed your scent." He continued licking her hand, savoring its taste.
Amaya was heartbroken. A torrent of pearl-like teardrops fell from her eyes and into the corner of the wolf’s mouth. The wolf licked it.
"I am so thirsty but now I am not. Your water tastes so sweet, my love." the wolf moaned.
Amaya continued crying.
"My life force is ebbing. I am happy that the last thing I see is your beautiful eyes that are like mine and your red fur. The last thing I smell is your sweet sweet scent. Can I kiss you one last time?" the wolf’s whimper was getting weaker and weaker.
Amaya bent down so her face was very close to the wolf. The wolf happily licked it.
Marx who was watching at the side, gritted his teeth. ’How dare he!’
"Promise me ...to not let them ...cut my body.. open." He said with his last breath.
"Yes, I promise." Amaya whimpered then she watched sadly as the wolf closed his eyes and his body grew limp.
"He is dead!" Amaya said. Her voice filled with sadness.
"Don’t be sad Princess. If we did not kill him, then we are the ones that would have died brutally." Vasquez comforted her.
"All he wanted was his mate and to have their pups and live their life in peace, but his mate was killed," Amaya said with deep emotion. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She struggled and wanted to stand up. Marx extended his hand and pulled her up. Her body was full of the wolf’s blood.
"Marx, Vasquez, let’s burn his body."
Vasquez looked at Marx and was waiting for his instruction. Marx nodded.
They gathered dried leaves and twigs nearby and covered the wolf with them.
Vasquez tore his tent. The material was waterproof and should be able to hold a lot of water. The wolf was big and they needed a big fire to completely burn his body. They needed to control the fire to ensure safety.
Amaya used the torch to light the dry leaves. When they started to smell the burning flesh, Amaya took out another sachet from her pocket. Only three sachets remained.
She threw the sachet into the fire and the smell of dried flowers and herbs permeated the air masking the smell of burning flesh.
Marx took out a towel from his backpack and dipped it in the water that Vasquez carried from the river. He passed the towel to Amaya so she could remove the blood from her body.
Amaya thanked him and started wiping herself while they continued to watch the fire devour the wolf.
Marx knew that Amaya was depressed. He did not know what she and the wolf talked about but he could see how much Amaya was affected.
"Aya, you can talk to me. Don’t keep it to yourself." He lifted Amaya’s chin and looked into her eyes.
Amaya sobbed.
"We are as cruel to them as they are to us, Marx!"
