Raised From The Wild-Chapter 174: The Real Accident
Amaya was looking at the four set jewelry made from dainty pink diamond. She knew the jewelry by heart.
"You.. you..are the one who bought this?" Amaya asked in disbelief.
"Isn’t this your first design?" Marx did not wait for her to answer but continued. "I don’t want it to fall into someone else’s hand so I had someone bid for it." Marx explained. "I know it is very important to you."
Amaya’s eyes reddened. She hugged Marx and whispered "Thank you, Marx. You are so good to me."
Marx looked down at pair of beautiful amber eyes that were wet. He felt that his soul was being sucked by those two beautiful eyes. Their faces were so near that he could see his face reflected in her clear, bright eyes.
Amaya tiptoed and kissed Marx on the lips. It was a quick kiss and it left Marx wanting for more. He slipped his hand behind the small of Amaya’s back and his other hand went behind the back of her head. Marx kissed her passionately. He pried her mourh open with his tongue and when Amaya opened her mouth he pushed his tongue inside.
Amaya cannot describe what she was feeling at that time. She felt her cheeks were very hot and her heart was racing that it would jumped out of her chest at any moment.
Suddenly the ferris wheel started moving. Marx groaned and reluctantly separated from Amaya. He let Amaya sit down and both were silent trying to grasp what just happened.
The ferris wheel started to accelerate. Marx frowned. He detected something was wrong so he picked up his phone and called his body guard.
The ferris wheel moved even faster. Amaya heard screams from the other gondolas. She was thinking that with the current speed they were spinning, the gondolas might be displaced. She remembered the twin toddlers with their parents who were queuing in front of them earlier.
Amaya grabbed a bar handle on the side. She needed to hold unto something to avoid being tossed from the side.
Marx made another call. It was very quick. " Valdez and the royal guard are already on it."
"What’s happening?" Amaya was scared not for herself but for the other people who were in the ferris wheel.
The ferris wheel jerked. The power supply was cut off but it still continued to spin. The screams and the children’s cries grew louder and louder.
Suddenly the ferris wheel stopped. Unfortunately three of the gondolas that were occupied were high up in the air. The one on the top most part belonged the couple with the twins.
Amaya heaved a sigh of relief. "I hope that those kids were alright..."
She has not finished her sentence yet when loud screams coming from the gondola on top and from the people down below were heard.
Marx and Amaya looked up at the gondola above them. Both gasped when they saw that one of the hinges of the gondola loosened causing it to tilt to one side. The family of four were dangerously pressed to one side of the glass wall of the gondola.
"It will take a long time for the rescue to come and I don’t think the gondola is stable enough." Marx looked at Amaya and they suddenly had a tacit understanding.
Marx pressed the emergency button to open the gondola. He and Amaya climbed out to the amazement of the crowd who was watching at the bottom.
"What are they doing? Why did the man allow the woman to come out?"
"Hurry, someone call for rescue. There is a crazy couple who went out of the gondola."
"Hey, watch your word. I don’t think they are crazy. It looks like they are going to rescue the people on the other gondola."
"Why? Are they professional? They should have waited for the firemen or the police to come to the rescue."
Valdez who had mingled with the crowd that gathered said, "If they waited, then those in the no. 4 gondola will die before rescue could come. Those two are trained people. They will not risk their lives if they don’t know what they are doing."
Everyone became silent.
Marx was not worried about Amaya at all. After all, she wasn’t a delicate woman that needed his protection.
Marx underwent military training when he was in a college and even while working, he continued to train a few days a month.
They reached the gondola in no time. Marx asked the man inside to press the emergency lever to open the door but the man refused.
Marx understood his reluctance. From one’s perspective, it was much safer to stay in the gondola than to go out of it.
"I understand where you are coming from. But think of it from our perspective? Do you think we would risk our lives coming up here if we know that you are safer inside? Look at the hinge on the right. It will not take a long time for it to give way."
Both the man and woman looked at the direction that Marx pointed. Their eyes widened with fear when they saw the looming danger that they were facing.
This time, the man pressed the emergency button and pushed the door open. He handed the two baby carrier’s to Marx and Marx handed one to Amaya. It took sometime for Amaya to figure out how it was being used.
A strong breeze blew from the sea. The gondola swayed and then it groaned. The man hurriedly passed his daughter to Marx and Marx with difficulty helped Amaya to strap the girl to her body.
The man passed his son to Marx. Since he was able to reach Marx, he strapped the boy to his body using the baby carrier.
Amaya went back to their gondola securing the baby on her chest while gripping the rim of the Ferris wheel using her hands and her feet. The distance was less than two meters but for people watching on the ground below, it was like eternity.
When Amaya and Marx reached the gondola, resounding claps were heard from below.
Marx removed the carrier from his body. "I need to go back to help the parents. You go ahead."
Amaya nodded. "Be careful. I’ll watch the two children."
Marx went back to the gondola. The woman who was in her late twenties came out and she was trembling. She was also afraid of heights.
The gondola was dangerously swinging even with a gentle breeze.
"Honey, don’t look down. Look straight to where our kids are. They are waiting for you." The man knew what words to say to her. His wife did focus her attention to the gondola before them. She was trembling but started moving on all fours. Her hands and feet were tightly clutching the metal drive rim that supported the gondolas.
"Don’t wait for me to come back as there might not be enough time. Do come out if you can." Marx advised the man who was left inside.
Marx soon realized that it was easier to save a small child as compared to an adult who has a full grasp of what fear is. Marx’s patience was getting thinner by the minute.
"Can you hurry up? Every minute that you delay, you are putting your husband at risk. Do you hear the metal groaning? It is because the tension of holding the gondola in place is a little strained."
The woman seemed to have woken up when she heard what Marx said. She hastened her movements.
When she was near the gondola, she happened to look down and froze on the spot. No matter how much Marx prodded her to move, she could not move.
Amaya saw what happened. She asked the little girl to tell her mom that she can do it.
"Mommy..." said the little girl. She has forgotten what to say next. She looked at Amaya with her two grape-like eyes.
"Mommy. You can do it. Mommy is brave." The little boy said. Amaya was even surprised to hear him say quite a number of words.
The woman looked at her two babies and tears streamed down her eyes. She started moving and soon she reached the gondola. She took her twins into her arms and hugged them tightly.
"Mommy... brave.." the little girl said
"Yes, mommy is so brave." Her brother seconded.
"Thank you children. If not for you, I would not have been able to face my fear of heights.
"Thank you, Princess!" The woman thanked Amaya profusely.
"How old are your children?" Amaya asked trying to ease the awkwardness in the air.
"Three and a half." She answered.
"You have adorable and brave kids."
"Thank you, Princess." She placed both her kids on her lap and patted them on the head. "Did you hear that? Our Princess said that you are both adorable and brave. Mommy is so proud of you."
"Mommy where is Dadda?" The little boy asked. He was looking at the the door of the gondola.
The young mother was about to reply when the ferris wheel shook and screams were heard from below followed by a loud crash.
Amaya looked down below her.
"Marx!" She screamed.
