Raised From The Wild-Chapter 175: The Heroes
"Marx!" Amaya screamed. She looked down and he saw Marx holding onto the spoke of the fourth gondola from theirs with one hand while he was grasping the man’s hand with his left.
Amaya could see that he would not be able to hang on for long. Amaya looked below the seat for something she can use. Fortunately she found a coil of nylon rope. It was intentionally placed there for emergency purposes.
Amaya grabbed the rope and pulled opened the gondola’s door and stepped out of it. She made mental calculations and used the rope as leverage when she jumped. She landed on the spoke where Marx and the man was hanging. She almost slipped but because she was holding to both ends of the rope with both of her hands, she quickly recovered and regained her footing.
People were screaming below and sirens of the ambulance and fire trucks could be heard. Amaya did not notice any of those as she hurriedly took one end of the nylon rope and tied it around her waist. She was very familiar with what kind of knot to use to secure herself. She passed the rope around the spoke she was standing on and made a single loop. She pulled hard and when she made sure that the rope would stay in place, she jumped without hesitation. She hung mid air right at the back of the man whom Marx was holding.
Amaya was dumbfounded, the man was unconscious. No wonder his head was plopped like that.
Amaya hurriedly wrapped the rope around the man. She was almost hugging the man when she did that.
Marx’s gaze darkened. "If i knew you would do something like that, then I shouldn’t have saved this stupid man. He is totally useless!" Marx complained.
Amaya chuckled. "You can let go now, Honey. I got him."
When Marx heard Amaya called him ’honey’ he trembled. He almost lost his grip.
"Don’t joke like that. You want me to fall?"
Marx released the other man. He realized that his shoulder was painful and his left hand was numb.
"Aya, my left hand is numb. I can’t move it."
Amaya loosened her hold on the rope and swung her body toward the gondola below them. She let the man sit astride on the metal spoke. She loosened the rope from her body and securely tied the man to the rim that supported the gondola. She did not bother to push him inside the gondola because he was so big. She looked down and saw that some rescue team started to climb.
She moved a few steps on the spoke were Marx was suspended earlier. She passed the rope around the spoke that and made a double loop. She pulled the rope until it snagged. She watched the man carefully and noticed that he was not affected and was still unconscious.
Amaya descended again but this time she did it slowly. Her face was a few centimeters from Marx.
"Marx, I don’t have the other end of the rope with me. You can only hold on to me." Amaya said worriedly. "But your left hand is numb."
"It is now okay. I can feel it now." To illustrate, Marx used his left hand to turn Amaya around such that her back was facing him. He grabbed her tightly with his left hand. He let go of the metal he was holding unto and placed his other hand on her waist.
Marx looked at the rope and the nearest spoke. The rope was too short for them to swing to the nearest spoke. It looked like they can only go up.
Marx grabbed the rope with his right hand and then he totally released Amaya and hold the rope with both of his hands.
"Honey please hold unto me." He teased.
Amaya gigled. "You still have the cheek to joke at this time." Amaya responded. Her checks turned pink because she was blushing. Amaya turned her body around and hugged Marx. It was a very intimate position.
Marx hoist both of them up with ease.mmWhen they had settled and sitting sided by side comfortably on the spoke, the crowd below shouted happily and clapped their hands.
"Honey, you are a hero!" Marx beamed at her.
Amaya glared at him.
"You don’t like to be called honey?" Marx asked with a raised eye brow. They sat lazily on the spoke of the Ferris wheel as they waited for rescue.
"It is not that. I thought you are joking. You sounded like you are joking." Amaya turned her body slightly away from Marx. She pouted acting childish. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Marx laughed heartily.
Amaya turned toward him and asked seriously. "I heard him call her honey earlier. Is that how couples call each other?" Amaya asked curiously. She never heard her grandfather call her grandma that or her Daddy Ibrahim call her Aunt Nelida ’honey.’
"Honey is an endearment that one used to call his partner or loved one. Others use ’darling’ or ’sweetheart’ or ’babe.’"
"Is that how people who are dating call each other?" Amaya asked.
"Well, for some yes. Other’s do not use endearment at all."
"How about you Marx, how do you like to be called?"
Marx paused and looked at Amaya. He preferred to be called his name. But he also like to be called any of those from time to time.
"How about you, how do want to be called?" Marx threw the question back at her.
"I’d like to be called Aya. There could be millions of honeys or darlings or sweethearts and babes out there but there could only be one Aya and that is me."
Marx gave a rare sweet smile. He patted her head and whispered, "that’s my girl. You are so smart."
Amaya wanted to say more but the rescue team reached them.
"He is unconscious. Bring him down first." As an afterthought, Marx added. "You can bring the others down as well. We can take care of ourselves."
There were only four rescuers who come up. They were afraid that the stability of the Ferris wheel was affected by the malfunction that happened earlier.
The two rescuers tied a harness on the unconscious man and hurriedly lowered him to the waiting ambulance below.
The other two went to gondola of the twins and their mother. The children did not want to separate from the their mother no matter how the rescuer coaxed them. Their earlier experience has left an indelible fear in their young hearts. In the future, they will never ride the Ferris wheel again.
"Rob, you are a brave boy. The harness can only take me and one more person. You make your choice, do I take you or your sister?" The mother did not have the heart to choose which child to carry with her so she passed the decision to her young son.
Rob’s eyes reddened. He looked at his twin sister and pointed at her. His mother heaved a sigh of relief.
"That’s my boy. Mommy is so proud of you. You are so brave. I’ll see you later down below."
The little boy hugged her mother’s thighs and was still not willing to let go. He was still a child after all.
"Little Robbie can come with me." Princess Amaya said with a gentle voice. She suddenly popped inside the gondola.
Probably because Amaya saved them earlier, little Robbie seemed to trust her. He let go of her mother’s thigh and opened up his arms, a gesture showing that he wanted to be picked up.
Amaya laughed and picked him up.
The rescuer was grateful.
"Thank you, Princess. The other group will be back in a while." He secured the harness on the mother daughter pair and hurriedly went down with them.
Marx went inside the gondola after the rescuer left. Amaya glanced at the bouquet of flowers lying on the floor and at the brocade box beside it. She picked up the box and stuffed it inside her backpack.
"Please carry this for me." She asked Marx then she glanced longingly at the bouquet.
When Marx noticed her gaze, he picked up the bouquet and fix it a bit. "Don’t worry, I’ll bring this with me."
Marx was in a good mood. He could see that Amaya appreciated his gift to her.
Amaya shifted her focus to the little boy in her arms.
"You are a very brave boy, little Robbie. What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"Doctor. Military doctor." The little boy said clearly.
"Really? My daddy was a military doctor too. And he was awesome. He taught me a lot of things. He taught me self defense. When I was sick, he cured my sickness." Amaya ruffled the little boy’s hair.
"I am pretty sure you will become a great military doctor someday."
The little boy nodded his small head a few times.
"I will protect sister and Princess."
Amaya was speechless and so was Marx.
"Good boy!" Amaya pinched his cheeks.
After a few more minutes the rescuer came back and it was Amaya’s turn to be brought back. The moment her feet landed on the ground the boy’s twin sister slid down her mother’s hold and ran to meet her brother and Princess Amaya.
