Raised From The Wild-Chapter 169: Her First Design
"They won’t dare. Security has been tightened around the area. They wouldn’t be able to come within the 300-meter diameter." King Duncan confidently declared.
King Ralden twirled the wine glass before taking a gulp. Wasn’t the King of Lireya overconfident? But now is not the time to test the strength of the Capital’s defense.
"But wasn’t there an attack two weeks ago at Verde Island?"
King Duncan turned sharply to the king of Ra-iya. "We were not the ones who attacked. We discovered the terrorist’s stronghold."
Before King Ralden can say anything, the auctioneer’s booming voice filled the banquet hall. He started the bidding for the first item to be auctioned which was a rare blue diamond ring called The Orbit of Neptune. Small white diamond studs surrounded a circular cut-stone blue diamond on an adjustable platinum ring. The starting bid was ten million Lireyan Dollar.
"Eleven million." A middle-aged man with a bald head raised his bidding card.
"Fifteen million." A gentleman in his late twenties raised the bid.
Amaya who has left the stage and was seated on a table at the left with Marx enjoyed watching the proceedings. The production cost of the ring including the diamonds used was around five million. She realized that putting the item in an auction can increase its value by leaps and bounds.
The last bid was at forty million.
"Forty million! Going once, twice..."
’Fifty million!" King Ralden’s assistant raised his card.
Amaya was surprised to see that the King of Ra-iya was interested in her designs. In the end, the Orbit of Neptune was sold to him at fifty million.
The next item to be auctioned was a four-piece jewelry set called Everlasting Love. It consisted of a necklace, a pair of earrings, and a ring. The set was exquisitely made from a rare dainty pink diamond. The auctioneer said that Everlasting Love was the first jewelry set that Princess Amaya designed, though she made a few revisions over the years.
Starting bid was fifty million. Prince Raquim bid for Everlasting Love at fifty-five million. He intended to give that as a gift for Tamara’s engagement.
Zanzara looked at King Ralden with dreamy eyes. She wanted to have the set. It didn’t matter if it was Amaya who designed it or somebody else but the four-piece jewelry set was very pleasing to the eyes. The pendant was not too ostentatious but rather it looked cute. It was the same for the earrings and the ring.
King Ralden’s assistant raised his card and shouted "sixty million!"
King Duncan looked at King Ralden with approval.
Princess Consort Nelida tugged at Ibarra’s sleeves. "Don’t you think that the set will look good on Danella?" She whispered but King Ralden and Zanzara heard her. Zanzara frowned and looked at her aunt with a worried expression.
"We can just ask Amaya to design another one for Danella. She is her sister after all." Ibarra did not want to join the bidding as Ralden and Raquim were fighting for the same piece.
Raquim: "Sixty two million!"
Assistant: "Sixty three million"
Bidder: "Sixty five million"
Assistant: "Sixty six million"
Raquim: "Sixty seven million"
The audience started to murmur. They were becoming impatient. They were urging the auctioneer to place a rule not to allow very small increment when bidding.
Only two people were left bidding for the set. The assistant looked at King Ralden who nodded. The King wanted to impress King Duncan so spending a little money was nothing to him.
"One hundred fifty million!"
All eyes were turned to the back where a man wearing a cap was holding a bidder’s card with one hundred fifty million written on it.
"Who is that man? He looked like he is a foreigner." A businessman from the audience whispered to his companion.
"What an astronomical amount. His fiancée is very lucky." Someone from audience blurted out.
Prince Raquim pondered for a while. He thought that 150 million was too much for a four piece jewelry. He gestured to his assistant to lay down his card. He will just bid for other items later.
Zanzara looked disappointed and King Ralden noticed it.
"Don’t worry, there are more beautiful pieces that we can bid later on." King Ralden comforted her with his magnetic voice.
Zanazara nodded. She did think that the set was not worth 150 Million.
Many matrons attended the auction with the purpose of looking for prospective husbands for their daughters. When someone bid a high price for Everlasting Love, they looked at him with interest. He must be rich to be able to bid such an amount. They eyed him like a predator would to its prey.
"Isn’t 150 million too much? If I remember correctly, the production cost of the set is less than 20 million. The diamonds used while they are rare are not very big." Amaya felt guilty that the buyer was scammed.
"Well, the buyer thinks that Everlasting Love is worth that much. Isn’t that your first design?"
"Yes. I started to draw my more serious designs when I was twelve. That is the first set that I completed."
Their conversation was interrupted because the auctioneer started the bidding on the third item. The rest of the bidding went smoothly. King Ralden got an emerald necklace with matching earrings and ring for Zanzara while Prince Raquim has gotten an opal jewelry set for Tamara.
As the night deepened, the auctioneer announced that the remaining items to be auctioned will be the mystery items. A rectangular box with rollers was pushed to the middle of the stage. Marx and Amaya were called on stage to unveil the mystery items. Amaya stood at one end of the box and Marx on the other side. They counted one to three and the black cloth that covered the box was removed.
The spotlight focused on the rectangular two-layer glass shelf. The audience gasped when they saw what was inside the glass cabinet.
"Oh my gosh! Am I dreaming?" One of the famous jewelers exclaimed.
