Raised From The Wild-Chapter 162: The Most Valuable Player
"I hope you can train Donello so he will get more medals next year." Prince Ibarra spoke in a gentle tone like a loving father would to his daughter.
"Don’t worry Dad. I’ll train him in archery and swimming."
Finally, the principal was called on stage to give out the most prestigious award of all, "The Most Valuable Athlete."
"It is my honor and privilege to call on the athlete who garnered the most medals during this year’s sports fest. Let me call on, the First Princess of Lireya, Amaya Rocas."
"Congratulations Aya. I am so proud of you." Marx looked at Amaya dotingly as he held her hand. Amaya smiled back as she murmured a heartfelt ’thank you’. Amaya waited for her Daddy Ibarra and her Aunt Nelida and then they go up the stage together.
The principal handed the trophy to Prince Ibarra and who handed it to Amaya. His face was showing a sincere smile and he was truly proud of Amaya. On the other hand, a cold glint flashed across Nelida’s eyes. It was very fleeting that even Amaya barely caught it.
The principal handed her the microphone.
"Hello everyone, many of you are asking how did I do it. I can tell you that it entailed a lot of effort. I started using the bow and arrows when kids my age were playing with dolls and tea sets. I had a lot of practice as I used the bow and arrows to survive. It is the same for track and field. Learning to run fast did not happen overnight. I have to run faster so I could escape from the predators that see me as their food. I ran fast so I can catch up with my animal friends."
"My Daddy Ibrahim and I lived near the beach so I get to swim at least three times a week. The waves are strong and I have to swim against them and over the course of time time, I developed endurance. My point is, becoming a champion requires a lot of hard work and discipline.
"In the last few days, I had a lot of fun and experienced a lot of ’firsts’ in my life. I am grateful and I thank the school for these kinds of activities."
After Amaya concluded her speech, the audience gave her a standing ovation. She curtsied before going down the stage together with her father and aunt.
"This calls for a celebration. Let’s go to Ocean Palace and have our lunch there." Prince Ibarra announced.
"Dad, can I bring along Marx and my friend Julienne?"
"Of course, you can invite whoever you want."
Ocean Palace recently opened and was oone of the few high-end restaurants in the capital. It was situated beside the sea and had two levels underground where the diners can have a view of the fishes and corals while enjoying their meal.
While waiting for the food, Amaya stood beside the glass partition and placed her hand on the wall while the fishes tried to swarm to her hand only to be blocked by the glass barrier.
"It is beautiful," Amaya exclaimed.
"Indeed. The owner of this restaurant must be very rich. Just imagine how much he spent building this facility." Julienned commented while plastering her face on the glass wall.
Marx who was standing beside Amaya fluttered his eyes. He looked down and after some time, he looked up again with a cold expression.
Suddenly Julienned stepped back and she registered a frightened look on her face.
"What’s ..that?" She cried. She thought that she saw a shark coming for them. Its speed was very fast It opened its jaws but got thrown back when it hit the glass barrier.
The wall was very strong. The shark was stunned and visibly hurt. They all thought that it went away after it failed its attack. When Amaya and Julienne were about to leave the glass wall to go back to their table, they saw the shark swimming very fast toward them.
Julienne and Danella screamed. Both Prince Ibarra and Princess Nelida tensed up. What if the glass wall shattered?
Ibarra was afraid. All three of his children were with him. What if it was an assassination attempt?
Marx was calm and so was Amaya. The First Princess seemed to know that the glass partition was very strong.
"This glass wall is made from a special material. Its strength is outstanding. Even if an airplane would hit it, it will remain intact.
When the shark was near, a second glass barrier suddenly rise from the sandy bed below. The shark hit it and a loud thud was heard. Blood splattered on the glass but it was immediately washed away by the undercurrent.
The shark seemed to look dead. A few people wearing a diving suits appeared. They cast a net on the shark and pulled it toward the first level of the basement.
"Do you think that they are going to cook the shark?"
Marx chuckled. "I think you are right. A shark’s fins are very valuable and their meat is very tasty. Don’t worry, the chef will definitely cook it."
Amaya just looked at him. Why does she feel like Marx acts as if he is the owner of the restaurant?
"Don’t you think that the shark is acting strange? Its first attack seemed normal. But the second one is not a normal thing for an animal to do. To gain momentum, it swam far away and come back at full speed. How can a shark could think about that?"
"Aya, don’t bother so much about that. The management of this restaurant will definitely look into it. Come on, let’s enjoy our lunch."
Amaya nodded and follow him back to the table where the waiter has started serving their food. The food was indeed top-notch in both taste and presentation. Amaya loved the grilled salmon with asparagus.
While everyone was still eating, Marx received a call on his phone. When he realized who the caller ID was, he excused himself and left the room to take the call.
Prince Ibarra followed him with his gaze. He felt that something was wrong and wanted to know what it was. He was conflicted because he also needed to be with his family. In the end, he stayed at the table and enjoyed the meal with his family.
Marx came back and when he saw that they are done with their meal, he leaned to the crown pick and whispered something.
Prince Ibarra looked troubled. "Go order the dessert you like. I just need to discuss with Marx about the incident earlier." The ladies nodded and checked the menu. They all ordered the specialty of the house.
At the observation room on the lowest level of the restaurant, Prince Ibarra was looking at the monitors and reading the result of the analysis on the shark. They found a chip inside the head of the shark. It is a similar chip that was found on the animals at Mount Ibra.
"So this shark was sent to assassinate us." Prince Ibarra said in a gloomy voice. Lireya has been peaceful ever since his grandfather inherited the throne when he was forty. It seemed that when his time comes, someone or some group wanted to stir trouble.
"Boss, we also found out that there is a mini bomb embedded in the body of the shark. We were able to detect it and disarmed it before it can explode." The restaurant’s chief security addressed him in such a respectful manner that Prince Ibarra could guess that Marx was the boss of this restaurant. His eyes widened for a moment but then it was something that is not farfetched as Marx Skylar was a very successful CEO at a very young age.
"Is it the same group as the terrorist that created havoc in Mount Ibra?" Prince Ibarra asked.
"It looks like it is." Marx confirmed.
"Can our security team work alongside the security team of your restaurant?" Prince Ibarra asked tentatively.
"Yes! Why not?" Marx replied back.
Prince Ibarra shifted his attention to the people who were checking on the shark. It was put on a sedative and they people in white overalls seemed to be putting something on the shark’s head.
They are putting back the chip on the shark’s head and also adding a tracker, then they will release the shark back into the sea.
"What baffled me is, how did the group know that we will be dining here? Nobody knew of our schedule except us. We also deployed a decoy to confuse people.
"There must be people in the palace who are feeding whoever wanted to assassinate you with your whereabouts, otherwise how can they target you so accurately?"
"That’s a very bold accusation, Marx. But of course we have a lot of servants working for us. It could be any of them."
"Your Highness, what if it is not just a servant? What if is someone close to you?
