Chapter 125: Threats

"Father, if you still consider me and my siblings as your children, then return the money and get back the island from the Princess!"

"Are you threatening me?" The old man glared at his eldest son.

"I am not father." Artemio adjusted his tone of voice.

"Why are you suddenly interested in this island when all those years, you, your brothers and sisters did not care about it." The old man barked at him. "None of you cared whether I am still breathing or not. So why the change in heart?" Earl Anishton asked bitterly. He did not know were did he went wrong in raising them? When their mother died, they stopped going back to Anishton Estate.

"Father, what are you saying? Of course, we care about you. Whose children wouldn’t be filial to their parents? It is just that we live on the other side of the globe.

"Hmmp. Don’t pay me that lip service. You are my son and I know what is in your heart. " The Earl said coldly. He then sized up his son before continuing, "The ownership of this island no longer belongs to me. I only own the lot where this castle stands. If you are so capable, you can approach the Princess and purchase back the property from her."

The old man turned and started walking.

"Father, you are so heartless." Artemio sounded bitter.

His father who walked toward his room stopped on his track and looked back.

"Yes, I am indeed heartless. How could I have raised heartless children if I am not one?" Earl Anishton snickered before going into his room.

Artemio Anishton stared blankly at his father then he clenched his fists. He has not changed even after all these years. He was still a man with a heart of stone. He breathed deeply. He would approach Princess Amaya the following morning and buy back the island. He needed to get the property back.

...

Julienne decided to book a ride so Amaya did not have to worry about her. She did not want to be a third wheel and felt uncomfortable. She noticed that Marx was very possessive of Amaya and he always find the opportunity to stay closer to her. Sometimes she thought that Marx was taking advantage of her but then she saw the expensive ring on her finger. Amaya did not tell her that she is already Marx’s girlfriend.

Amaya and Marx passed by the zoo and checked on the three pups. They were in the animal neo care section. The furry babies were inside a medium-sized cage. Amaya saw an apparatus that looked like a coffee maker but contained milk. The milk gets dispense into a long rubbed tube with stopper at both ends. In the long tube, there were three nozzles that resemble a wolf’s nipple.

One of the pups woke up and crawled towards the milk dispenser. He sucked on the tit-like nozzle and the milk flowed into his mouth. Amaya watched and marveled at the ingenuity of the people who designed such device.

Amaya made a whimpering sound. She inserted her hand in between the gap of the cage. The pup approached the edge of the cage and obediently sat on her palm. She stroked the pups tummy with her fingers and a pleasant sound came out from the pup.

They did not stay long in the zoo. Marx did not agree when Amaya insisted to drive. He did not want to take a risk.

"You should take this opportunity to take a rest."

Amaya did not argue anymore. She obediently climbed the car and sit at the back. She felt drowsy and her lids became heavy. Soon her body tilted to the left away from Marx. He put his arms around her shoulder and pulled her gently and let her head rest on his chest while his chin was on her head. He inhaled her sweet floral scent that calmed his nerves. Without him realizing it, he drifted into into sleep.

Amaya woke up when the car stopped moving. She felt something strong and warm hugging her body. Her right ear was pressed against something hard and she was hearing a loud steady stumping rhythm of a heart beating. She moved back carefully and looked up at a gentle sleeping face.

Marx’s black and long eyelashes fluttered and Amaya found herself held captive by a pair of ocean blue orbs. She was too close that she could see herself in those deep eyes.

Marx lost control. He lowered his lips and captured hers. He only released her when he felt that she was out of air.

"You have to learn how to breathe from your nose while kissing, Aya. Otherwise wouldn’t it be a shame if you passed out from kissing?" Marx who was in a good mood teased her.

Amaya felt the heat rose to her cheeks. She subconsciously lifted her fingers to touch her lips where she could still feel the lingering warmth of Marx’s lips. He held her hand and brushed her lips with his thumb. A tingling sensation ran over Amaya’s body.

"Come, let us get out. Other’s might wonder what’s taking too long for us to come out."

When they were getting inside, they met Zanzara and Tatiana who were both smiling brightly at Marx and did not even glance at Amaya.

"Oh, Marx you are here. You are just in time. We are about to go to the small banquet hall to have dinner. Come join us."

Marx looked at them coldly. "Am I your cousin? I am just an outsider. She is your cousin and should be the one that you are welcoming."

"Of course. Cousin Amaya, don’t you know that today is the last day of the quarter and the Rocas is having its quarterly reunion? We can bring along some of our friends."

"O, I see. I did not know. Clarissa might have forgotten." Amaya responded. She then looked at Marx and invited him to join them in the dinner.

"Since you insist, then I will accept it."

When they entered the dining hall, all eyes were on them. Amaya was surprised that everyone were there. All of his grandfather’s children and grandchildren were there.

Amaya went to were King Duncan and Queen Lucinda were seated.

"Good evening, Grandpa, Grandma. I am sorry, I did not know that there is gathering tonight." She bowed her head lightly to show her respect.

"Good evening Your Majesty, King Duncan and Queen Lucinda." Marx bowed

"It is you! Common Aya, go find your seat and entertain your guest." Queen Lucinda enthusiastically said. She was getting better everyday. Whatever concoction Amaya gave her, she drank it and she could feel her body improved and sleep better at night."

"By the way, Grandpa and Grandma, the grand opening of simply Jewel will be next week on Saturday. I’ll give you the invitation tomorrow."

Queen Lucinda looked at her dotingly. "My granddaughter is so amazing. You have a lot of hidden talent."

"Thank you so much, Grandma. I must have inherited them from you and Grandpa." Amaya said shyly.

The king and the queen beamed happily. Who wouldn’t feel good at being praised?

Marx stole a glance at his woman. He never thought that she was good with words.

"Hmmp, Grandma, you do you only have eyes for your other granddaughter? How about me? Am I not amazing?" Danella who was standing nearby sulked.

"Don’t fret Ella. Of course, all of my grandchildren are amazing with great talent." the queen spoke gently.

Danella cursed inwardly. ’That’s just lip service Grandma. It is very obvious that you are biased towards Amaya.’

Donello also came forward and greeted the king and queen. Then it was Yohan’s turn.

"Grandpa, Grandma, can I go with Sister and Uncle Marx to go treasure hunting in the forest tomorrow?"

The king and the queen were taken aback by the young prince’s request. Before they can reply, Amaya lifted the young boy and said.

"It is not a safe place for you as there are wild animals there. When you are as big as your big brother Donello, then I can take you there.

Yohan pouted. He knew that he has to wait for a long time before he become as big as Prince Donello. He was sad.

"Don’t be sad. Yesterday, a silver wolf gave birth. And guess what! There were three baby wolves. I will give one to you when the pup is old enough."

The young prince was delighted and happily went back to his seat.

"How about me, Grandpa, Grandma? Can I go? I am old enough." Donello asked expectantly.

"Go ask permission to your father." King Duncan did not want to be the bad guy. His role as a grandfather was to spoil his grandchildren. It should be Ibarra’s role to discipline them. So he should be the fall guy.

Of course, the crown prince did not agree on the basis that it was not established yet if the mountains were safe or not. The young prince was dejected.

"Don’t worry Don. Once we have explored both mountains, Daddy Ibrahim will definitely allow you to go." Amaya comforted him.

Donello’s face brightened. "If that is the case, then I can wait."

A pair of brown hostile eyes looked at Amaya. How dare she suggest such a bold idea?
