As soon as Li Yuan returned to the university gate, he saw Xu Zhi and Wang Shuai whispering to each other with sly grins.

He walked up and threw a playful punch at each of them. "Shuai, Dazhi, what are you two whispering about with those sly, mischievous grins on your faces?"

Seeing Li Yuan, the first thing Wang Shuai asked was, "Yuan, did you really get a new girlfriend?"

Li Yuan nodded. "Yeah, Xu Zhi has already met her. I’ll introduce her to you guys next time. She’s a really nice girl."

"What about Bai Weixi, then?" Wang Shuai shot back. "You chased her for three years and were on the verge of succeeding. You’re just giving up like that? Can you really live with it?"

"Let bygones be bygones. Let’s not talk about it," Li Yuan said, his expression suddenly growing serious. He clearly didn’t want to discuss the topic.

Li Yuan walked over to his car, pulled open the door, and waved at Xu Zhi and Wang Shuai. "What are you two standing around for? Come on, get in."

Xu Zhi awkwardly rubbed his nose. He glanced toward Daxia University, hesitating, as if he wanted to say something but didn’t know how to explain the situation to Li Yuan.

Wang Shuai had already walked up to the black Audi. He ran a hand over the four rings, clicking his tongue in amazement. "Yuan, when did you buy an Audi? And an A8, at that! But it looks a bit old."

Li Yuan said flatly, "I didn’t buy it. I rented it."

Wang Shuai was stunned. "Rented? You just started university, why would you rent a car?"

"You didn’t rent it just to pick me and Xu Zhi up, did you?"

Li Yuan rolled his eyes. "Take a good look in the mirror. You’ve got some nerve. You’re not a couple of fragrant beauties I’d go out of my way to pick up."

Xu Zhi suddenly walked over with a strange smile. "Heh, well, a fragrant beauty *is* about to arrive."

Li Yuan looked startled. "There’s someone else?"

Xu Zhi laughed. "You’ll see in a minute. But let’s get something straight first: you can’t back out at the last minute. You’ve found your romantic bliss, but your brother here still hasn’t secured his."

Wang Shuai knew the inside story; he had come with Wang Yuchen and Xu Zhi. While they were waiting for Li Yuan, Wang Yuchen had gone into the university to find Bai Weixi. Since their high school friends were getting together, it didn’t make sense to leave her out.

He glanced at Li Yuan’s complicated expression and secretly waited for the drama to unfold. He offered a grinning reminder, "Yuan, watch yourself. Don’t make things too ugly. We’re all classmates, after all."

"Even a breakup should be handled with dignity."

Li Yuan was already getting a bad feeling. Just as he was about to ask what was going on, his gaze shifted and he saw two beautifully dressed girls walking arm in arm out of the university gate.

Who else could it be but Wang Yuchen and Bai Weixi?

Wang Yuchen was dressed refreshingly today in a JK-style skirt paired with white stockings and small high heels. She was also wearing light makeup, having clearly put effort into her appearance.

When she saw Li Yuan, she immediately let out a coquettish huff. "Big Writer Li, you’ve been hiding yourself well."

Li Yuan just smiled. "It’s nothing worth showing off."

Seeing Li Yuan’s expression, Wang Yuchen couldn’t help but feel the urge to retort. Nothing worth showing off? How infuriating.

"Hah. A Great Writer who earns millions a month sure is humble." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Of course. Humility is a traditional Chinese virtue."

Clutching the hem of her skirt, Bai Weixi quietly walked over until she was standing right in front of Li Yuan. Her beautiful eyes simply stared at him in silence.

Gazing at his familiar face, her eyes suddenly welled with tears. The sense of grievance she had been holding inside peaked the moment she saw him. She just stared at Li Yuan, not saying a word, yet it was as if she had spoken a thousand words.

Wang Shuai, Xu Zhi, and Wang Yuchen all sensed the heavy atmosphere. They fell silent in unison, waiting for Li Yuan’s response.

Li Yuan looked at Bai Weixi. She was still wearing the white dress and white shoes he had always loved most. Her hair was down, tied with a pink butterfly bow, giving her an ethereal air.

"Bai Weixi. It’s been a long time."

The moment Li Yuan spoke, the tears Bai Weixi had been holding back finally streamed down her cheeks.

She looked at Li Yuan with red, tear-filled eyes. At that moment, though they stood only a step apart, it felt as if they were separated by an entire world.

Seeing her best friend crying, Wang Yuchen quickly stepped forward to support her. She pointed at Li Yuan, intending to demand justice for Bai Weixi. "Li Yuan, can’t you be a little nicer to Bai? She waited so long for you. Is this how you’re going to treat her? Do you have any conscience?"

Accused for no reason, Li Yuan’s gaze turned icy. He glared at Wang Yuchen. Even if she was his best friend’s girlfriend, she had no right to speak to him like that.

Just as he was about to fire back, Xu Zhi saw that things were about to get ugly. He rushed over to block Li Yuan, pulling him aside and pleading in a low voice, "Yuan, my man, calm down. Please, for my sake, don’t get angry. Yuchen didn’t mean it."

Li Yuan snorted coldly and nodded. Too lazy to speak, he simply turned to leave.

Seeing Li Yuan act this way, Bai Weixi’s heart ached terribly. She stopped Wang Yuchen, who was still about to argue, and shook her head at her.

Bai Weixi forced a smile and held back her tears. She looked at Li Yuan and said in a soft voice, "Li Yuan... I’m sorry about before."

Li Yuan scoffed. "There’s nothing to be sorry for. Get in the car. It’s not good for us to be standing around out here."

Li Yuan walked directly to the car and got into the driver’s seat. Wang Shuai and Xu Zhi exchanged a glance and left the front passenger seat for Bai Weixi. Wang Yuchen sat on the far side, with Xu Zhi in the middle.

Although Wang Yuchen was curious about when Li Yuan had bought a car, she opened her mouth but ultimately decided not to ask. The atmosphere in the car instantly became awkward.
