Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 605: First-Time Parents (4)_1
After Rebecca Hughes left, Hansen Ruiz also arrived, carrying gifts of various sizes.
Rachel Bailey didn’t come. It wasn’t because she didn’t want to, but because she couldn’t. She was pregnant, and Julia was a new mother. It was said that pregnant women shouldn’t visit new mothers, as it was believed to cause a ’clash’ or bring bad luck.
After offering congratulations and conveying Rachel Bailey’s concern, Hansen Ruiz gave Glades Horne a meaningful glance. Glades understood his unspoken meaning. Just then, Scarlett Taylor and her husband, Chris Bluen, arrived. Glades took the opportunity to ask his in-laws to look after Julia for a while, and he left the Maternity Room with Hansen.
The two men left the hospital.
On a low cliff by the sea, Glades Horne squinted his eyes against the oncoming sea breeze, gazing at the boundless ocean. It was quiet here, with no tourists around.
Hansen Ruiz stood by his side, facing the sea breeze just like him.
"It seems Pheobe Rogers is going to make a move," Hansen Ruiz said with a light smile.
Glades’s people were watching Pheobe Rogers, and Hansen’s people were also helping Glades keep an eye on her. They now knew about Pheobe’s every move.
"I know," Glades said, not surprised, nor did he show any sign of panic. Before, Pheobe Rogers had feared him because she was still lucid. Now, her lack of fear meant she was determined to drag him down with her, even in death.
He had long been ready, just waiting for Pheobe Rogers to walk into his trap, so he could finish her for good.
"She was sneaking around the hospital last night," Hansen Ruiz said, turning his head to glance at Glades before looking back out to sea. "I think she’ll target your baby."
Glades pursed his lips and remained silent, his eyes instantly turning cold and dark, radiating a murderous aura.
"Glades, you’re not going to use your baby as bait, are you?" Hansen Ruiz knew Glades wanted to force Pheobe Rogers into madness, to make her commit a serious crime so she would spend the rest of her life in prison. He had promised Julia that he wouldn’t soil his hands with Pheobe’s blood, even though he wished he could tear her to pieces. Rationality told him that no matter how despicable Pheobe Rogers was, if he took her life, he would become a murderer. Julia would be the one to suffer, and it wouldn’t be worth it.
So, he had to pursue other avenues. He planned to cut off her father’s financial support and block any news about James Horne. This would let Pheobe Rogers burn through her resources, her resentment deepening until she took a desperate, risky move and committed a serious crime. Just as when he took revenge on the Evans Family, he proceeded through legal channels, allowing the law to punish them, rather than impulsively killing them.
"My baby... I cherish my baby as much as my own life. How could I possibly use my baby as bait?" Glades spoke in a deep voice. That child is the crystallization of his love with Julia; he would absolutely not use their baby as bait.
"Then what do you plan to do? How can I assist you?"
Hansen Ruiz also knew Glades wouldn’t use the baby as bait. If Glades dared to use his own baby as bait, Hansen would be the first to lose all respect for him.
"I’ve arranged for Bodyguards to take shifts around the clock to protect the babies’ safety. It will be very difficult for Pheobe Rogers to get close, even if she wants to," Glades said thoughtfully. "I suspect she’ll make her move during the baby’s one-month celebration. That’s sure to be a large event, and whether it’s held at home or at a hotel, it will be crowded and chaotic. That will give her a chance to slip in." He then turned to Hansen Ruiz. "Help me prepare a cotton doll, about the size of a newborn, in a sleeping position. It has to be as lifelike as possible. We’ll equip the doll with a sound system that plays a baby’s cry. As soon as it’s touched, the sound will go off, just like a real baby crying."
"Alright," Hansen Ruiz immediately agreed.
Without Glades needing to spell it out, Hansen already guessed his plan. This time, Glades was setting a trap, waiting for Pheobe Rogers to jump in. He would ensure she had no chance to turn things around. He intended to make her completely lose her father’s love and James Horne’s love before she went to prison. Julia had pried the news about James Horne from him and sent Rebecca Hughes to find James. Glades needed James to be present to execute his plan, which was why he had ’generously’ revealed James’s whereabouts. Of course, he wouldn’t tell Julia any of this. However, using a cotton doll as bait would still require Julia’s cooperation. Unless they removed the cancerous growth that was Pheobe Rogers, their lives would never be peaceful. Not even James Horne could enjoy a quiet life. Having such a mother would only add to James’s pain.
"Have you heard any news about Noah Reyes recently? Adele gave birth to her son nearly a year ago, and we still haven’t been able to pinpoint that man." This was one of the heaviest burdens on Glades’s heart, along with the still-unsolved mystery behind Julia’s kidnapping. Both matters shared a common characteristic: their adversaries possessed strong counter-surveillance capabilities and formidable defense systems.
"No, Glades, do you really think Noah Reyes could be that person?" Hansen Ruiz sounded doubtful. "Noah Reyes wasn’t even in Syrena during that time."
"Someone with a defense system so strong that even you and I couldn’t crack it in a short time... even if he had come, we wouldn’t know. He left no trace," Glades said darkly. Even the slightest suspicion had to be investigated. It wasn’t just about seeking justice for Adele; it was also for Julia’s safety and for the Valence Group. Connecting the major events that had occurred, he increasingly felt they were orchestrated by the same individual.
"Finding Noah Reyes’s whereabouts again will be truly difficult. But don’t worry too much; I’ll do my best. I’ve never encountered such a challenging opponent before," Hansen Ruiz said, his enthusiasm evident. "My interest is piqued! Even if you hadn’t asked, I’d continue to investigate."
He, after all, was always drawn to the most challenging tasks.
Glades nodded.
That was all they could do for now.
"Recently, it seems many new small companies have been popping up," Glades said, shifting the conversation to business matters.
As the leader of T City’s business community, he was aware of the emergence of even the smallest new company.
"Yes, and many are in the same industry as ours," Hansen Ruiz replied, his expression growing serious. "It isn’t strange to have small companies in the same industry. There are all sorts of businesses, and it’s not as if the Valence Group’s presence in a sector prevents others from entering it. What I find strange is that so many small companies have appeared at the same time. Even if these are newly established businesses with only a few employees, the fact that they’ve all emerged simultaneously... however I look at it, it feels a bit off."
