Pretending to Be an Untouchable Crime Boss-Chapter 258: Trip.
"The guys are ready." Mike’s voice came from the back. "Ten come with us, without any weapons so the others who were sent with your family could give us theirs," he said. "So we’re going with 3 cars, and the only thing remaining is your luggage, boss."
"And a proper suit because your polo shirt is bloodied." Hector pointed out as he just noticed it. "What happened to your hand?"
"I accidentally cut it." James said as he looked at Mike, who just nervously nodded, though Hector did ask nothing about it. "Anyways, how does a..." he opened the passport again, "Oversight Committee of Foreign Embassies dress?"
"Woah, that’s a long name." Hector chuckled. "I mean, that for sure is not with diamond rings on his finger and a gun tucked in. So an office fit, maybe a light blue suit and glasses, with a black leather briefcase."
They both just stared at him, how fast he lightly made the fit to James and the personality he’s going to play.
"But what’s in the briefcase?" Mike asked. "I mean there is a small chance they can stop him."
"We throw in some blank papers, a pen and a notebook, a calculator maybe—"
"Forget it, I’m only taking the money. So if the guys and Mike get stopped, there won’t be any fuckery with it, and that’s it. I don’t need any luggage or clothes... just a suit to look proper." He said as he started taking off the Butterfly ring and Marcos’s ring. "Take these, Hector, and if you have time, can you bring them to a cleaner? There’s always the scent of blood coming from the rings."
As Hector took them, he looked closely at the rings, and well, it was obvious why they smelled of blood. The butterfly ring was the worst, once it was bloodied, the blood filled the little cuts and crevices between the diamonds. Who knows whose blood it was or how long it had been there.
"About the business, we’ll have meetings. Here, take it." James said as he held out the laptop. "Linda sent it, it’s encrypted or whatever, so it’s a safe line." He grabbed it from James, and it felt heavy, like a piece of brick... a monstrosity of a laptop. "I’m going to change into a suit, and then off we go."
Mike nodded to it, and with that, James went back into the house to change into a, well, not light blue, but black, suit, since his wardrobe was full of them. Then came the problem... his cane. The new one had the family name engraved on it, so it wasn’t the best idea to bring that, instead, he grabbed the old wooden one and with it, he looked like an aristocrat... but he was ready to take a trip that might be the dumbest one, might even be a deadly one... but for him, it meant more than anything else right now.
Especially knowing full well that he hadn’t heard Charlotte’s voice in a long time, a small child he was supposed to be the father of, yeah, a key point he had totally forgotten about, or more like, didn’t even realize properly that he was the father of that little girl, a father who wasn’t in her life at all, just like how Lucian was never in hers, and now he was doing the exact same thing, repeating the cycle. A child who had already gone through a traumatic event at such a young age, because she was there with him, saw him get shot, saw the blood, sat beside his hospital bed without understanding whether he would live or die, and not to even mention the beatings she endured from that monster who dared to call herself a mother... yeah, she survived that too, and he wasn’t there, not then, not now.
But he changed or more like realized he needed to be there, needed to address things properly to her, even if she wasn’t going to understand it now, even if she was going to hate him for it, because maybe, far in the future, when the noise quiets and life slows down, she would understand what kind of world she was born into and that James only ever wanted to protect her... or more like he wanted to believe that protecting her meant keeping her away from all of it, and maybe it was too late, maybe the damage was already done, maybe Charlotte would grow up remembering silence instead of warmth, but if there was still a chance, even a small then he would fight for it, and he would fight for her, no matter how many borders he had to cross because in the end, none of it mattered if she grew up thinking she was unloved.
That was the one legacy he refused to leave behind.
A child who just wants to be loved, a child he truly loves, just like how a mother still waits for him, and how a lover too.
It is all worth more than money, then power, then drugs... a family that loves.
"Fuck me... I deserve to be shot like a dog, huh?" He whispered as he looked into the mirror, and with that, he walked out of the house, where the convoy was already waiting and so was Hector.
"Call the moment something happens." He said as he hugged James.
"Don’t worry too much." He laughed about it, because he looked like a worrying father more than a psychopath. "Well, 3 weeks Hector, do whatever you can and be sure to join the meeting, okay?"
Hector nodded and his eyes were literally in tears, which James just laughed even more at, but in the end he got in the car and the convoy rolled out from the estate.
The trip to Maraci began, an adventure that could turn into the biggest mistake he’s ever made in his life... no, he already made that mistake. This one could only end in death, but who knows, maybe it’ll be death... just not his, but someone else’s.
A real, deadly adventure into the mystery of Maraci.
