Playboy: Medical and Martial Master-Chapter 313 - 312: The Ancient Tomb
Listening to Chen Ruolong's screams, which sounded like a pig being slaughtered, Sun Zhe strolled out of the reed bed, preparing to go get some useful supplies from the Winged Dragon Bird's nest.
「In the reed bed.」
Chen Ruolong was half-kneeling on the ground, his ear being twisted by his sister as he pleaded for mercy.
"Sis! Please, sis! I was wrong! Let go!"
Chen Ruoyi snorted coldly and released his ear. "From now on, you are not allowed to spout nonsense in front of Doctor Sun," she said sternly, "and you are definitely not allowed to ruin my image! Got it?"
Looking aggrieved, Chen Ruolong rubbed his ear and muttered softly, "What image is there left to ruin? You know me, I've been honest since I was a kid. It's hard for me to lie."
"You..." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Alright, alright, I get it! I promise I won't run my mouth again!"
Chen Ruoyi waved a small fist at him, warning, "If you dare spout any more nonsense and ruin my image, I guarantee I will peel the skin off you!"
"Hehe, sis, but seriously. In my mind, the great Miss Chen has always been wild and uninhibited. Why the sudden concern for your image?" he teased. "Could it be... you've really got a thing for Doctor Sun?"
Hearing this, Chen Ruoyi kicked out at him. "You're the wild one! I'm a proper lady, alright? I've been well-read, gracious, gentle, and kind since I was a little girl. How did I become 'wild and uninhibited' in your eyes?"
She's so quick to resort to violence, and has such a bad temper... she bullied all the boys in our class when we were little. No wonder she can't get married, Chen Ruolong lamented internally.
Chen Ruoyi took a slow, deep breath to suppress her anger. She couldn't be bothered to bicker with him anymore. "He saved both of us," she said seriously. "He's our savior, so you'd better stop being so flippant in your words and actions."
"Hah!" Chen Ruolong waved a hand dismissively and chuckled. "You call that 'saving' someone?"
Chen Ruoyi's brows knitted together. "Then what would you call it?"
"He was saving his future wife!" Chen Ruolong declared.
"You... Are you courting death?!"
"Just admit it, sis. Don't I know you? You're interested in Doctor Sun. It's a classic tale—the beauty falls for the hero. I get it!"
"You get nothing!"
"I'm serious," Chen Ruolong said earnestly. "This Doctor Sun is tall and handsome, and he's so powerful at such a young age. Plus, he helps those in need, which shows he's chivalrous and righteous. If you let a good man like this slip by, you'll have a hard time finding another! Trust me, sis. I, Chen Ruolong, am an excellent judge of character!"
Hearing this, Chen Ruoyi fell silent.
Chen Ruolong tilted his head. "So, how about it, sis? After hearing my analysis, has that little seed of love finally started to sprout in your heart?"
A vein throbbed on Chen Ruoyi's forehead. "Chen Ruolong, can you please shut up?"
Seeing she was impervious to his teasing, Chen Ruolong's expression suddenly turned serious. "Answer me!" he roared.
Chen Ruoyi was stunned by his shout. She stared at him blankly, completely taken aback. In all their years growing up, this was the first time Chen Ruolong had ever been fierce with her.
Chen Ruolong stared right back at her, his voice rising to an angry shout. "Look at my eyes! Tell me! Why? Baby, why?"
Chen Ruoyi's shoulders suddenly slumped. On the verge of tears but unable to produce any, she surrendered. "Bro, you're my big brother, alright? Just spare me! From now on, I'll call you Big Bro, and I'll be your Little Sis!"
"..."
The siblings continued their playful squabble for a little while before Sun Zhe returned to the reed bed. He was laden with bags, large and small, like a mother bird returning to the nest after a successful forage.
Chen Ruolong immediately rushed forward like a hungry chick. "Brother-in-law, what's all this?"
Sun Zhe gave him a deep, meaningful look, letting his eyes convey the message.
Chen Ruolong quickly slapped a hand over his mouth and corrected himself. "Boss, what's all this?"
Sun Zhe dropped the large bags on the ground. "Some food, clothes, and medical supplies. You two take a look first." He then added, "If you're both feeling alright, we need to get moving soon."
The mention of traveling made Chen Ruolong's heart sink. He didn't dare to imagine the pain that would follow once the medicine wore off. With injuries like his, how would he even manage to travel?
"Say, Boss, do you really have to go to that village?"
Sun Zhe simply nodded without saying a word. Finding Su Nanzhi, who might be dead or alive, in this vast swamp basin was like finding a needle in a haystack. For now, his only lead was to check the village Chen Ruoyi had mentioned.
Chen Ruolong stared at Sun Zhe. "To be honest, I don't know how dangerous it is inside that village, but I know for a fact that the area around it is incredibly dangerous. You know those Winged Dragon Birds we ran into, Boss? There are tons of them near that village. And there are also Flood Snakes!"
"Boss, do you know what a Flood Snake is? That thing is a monster that has achieved cultivation. In front of one of them, even a giant anaconda is nothing more than a little earthworm, an easy meal. I saw two of them before, one red and one black. Tsk, tsk... it was terrifying, like something out of the movie *Anaconda*. The sheer pressure they give off is enough to suffocate you. If you don't believe me, ask my sister! Boss, I'm not just being an alarmist!"
Hearing this, Sun Zhe frowned slightly. "Where did you see those two snakes?"
"Uh... in that ancient tomb."
"What ancient tomb?"
Chen Ruolong thought for a moment before speaking. "Boss, you saved my life, and we might even become family one day, so I won't hide it from you. We actually came here this time to find the Dragon Treasure in that ancient tomb. I can't really explain what the Dragon Treasure is, because I'm not too sure myself. I assume my sister already told you how that idiot captain tried to hoard the treasure for himself and abandoned us."
Sun Zhe nodded. "So, the snakes came out of the ancient tomb?"
"I was so scared I nearly pissed my pants," Chen Ruolong admitted, the fear still fresh in his mind. "Luckily, the two snakes weren't interested in us. They were only chasing that idiot captain. It must have been because he took the Dragon Treasure."
Then, Chen Ruolong started to laugh. "I bet that idiot captain has already been eaten by the snakes. Serves him damn right! Did he really think the Dragon Treasure would be that easy to take?"
Sun Zhe couldn't help but think of the two Flood Snakes he had encountered. Come to think of it, they were most likely the same two Chen Ruolong was talking about. They must have been heading toward the edge of Celestial Prison Mountain to chase down that captain and retrieve the Dragon Treasure.
"Hey, I can't believe this Earth Heart Grass is still here!" Chen Ruoyi's surprised cry came from the side, pulling Sun Zhe from his thoughts.
Chen Ruolong glanced over. "That bag must have been Wu Tao's, right? I remember he was the one in charge of carrying the herbs. Man, that guy had a miserable end... His arms and legs were broken by that Winged Dragon Bird, and then it dragged him into its nest and tore him to shreds while he was still alive."
Recalling the horrific scene, Chen Ruoyi didn't respond to her brother. Instead, she picked up the Earth Heart Grass and weighed it in her hand. "Well, it wasn't a total loss. At least we got an Earth Heart Grass."
Sun Zhe looked over and saw that the plant in her hand looked exactly like the illustrations he had seen in ancient texts. It resembled a stone rod with five willow-leaf-shaped leaves fanned out at its base, vaguely like a peeled banana.
Sun Zhe suddenly recalled that Su Nanzhi had also ventured deep into this swamp to find an Earth Heart Grass.
"Doctor Sun, do you want this Earth Heart Grass? I'll give it to you," Chen Ruoyi said, suddenly stepping in front of him and holding it out.
"No, thank you. That's a very precious item; I wouldn't want to deprive you of it."
From the side, Chen Ruolong chuckled. "That's my brother-in-law... I mean, my boss, for you! So magnanimous he doesn't even bat an eye at an Earth Heart Grass! So, sis, you should just keep it for your own use."
"Use?"
Sun Zhe frowned slightly. He looked at the "stone stick" in Chen Ruoyi's hand and couldn't help but feel that Chen Ruolong's choice of the word "use" was rather thought-provoking. He didn't let his imagination run wild, though. "Miss Chen, where did you pick this Earth Heart Grass?" he asked.
"In the ancient tomb. There are lots more of them there."
Sun Zhe made an immediate decision. "Then we'll go to the ancient tomb first. Forget the village."
"Actually," Chen Ruoyi said, "the ancient tomb and the village are in the same direction, and they aren't far from each other."
"In that case, you two pack up. Let's get going."
