PAMPERED BY MY THREE BROTHERS: THE RETURN OF THE NEGLECTED HEIRESS-Chapter 1783: Main port
Chapter 1783: Main port
[Zoren, Atlas, and Hugo’s group]
When their group neared the main port of their designated island, everyone was wary and tense. Even before reaching it, they had already turned off their engines and kept their weapons ready.
"No one’s there," said one of the soldiers in his boat, lifting the binoculars to his eyes again. "I see no one."
"Keep looking," another man uttered, flashing lights on the main port just in case. "This could be an ambush. Don’t lower your guard."
As for Hugo, he walked closer to the deck and raised his foot. He held his rifle across from him, watching the port for any enemies. But even when they reached it and anchored, no enemy showed up or opened fire.
It was empty.
Mark and Angel were the first to jump out of the boat, followed by their men, who spread out to check the vicinity for anything suspicious. Meanwhile, Hugo stayed close to Zoren and Atlas, ensuring that the two of them would land safely.
"Sir, there’s nothing," one of the men rushed back to Mark, who quickly approached his boss and Zoren’s brothers-in-law.
"The area is clear," Mark reported.
The other three exchanged glances, but before they could speak, they saw Angel running toward them. When the others saw people behind him, they raised their rifles at the newcomers.
"It’s alright!" Hugo yelled, raising a hand as he eyed the men following Angel. "I know them. They’re my comrades."
"Lieutenant!" The first soldier, who was closer to Angel, slowed down, stopping a few steps from Hugo. He didn’t even glance at the others, even when they raised their rifles.
He saluted Hugo. Hugo saluted back and then lowered his hand.
"What’s going on?" Hugo asked without beating around the bush.
"We’ve scouted the area and the island when we touched down. However, the entire place is guarded," reported the soldier. "We managed to take down a few, and our men are already blending in to secure a safe landing or docking."
Hugo nodded, his eyes scanning the people around them. "Did you find anyone waiting to ambush us here?"
"No, sir," the soldier answered quickly. "However, we did find some groups waiting to ambush us in other areas. Strangely enough, they all left the main port open."
"It could be another form of ambush?" Angel guessed, but Hugo shook his head.
"They left it open because no one’s going to use it," Atlas answered instead, his voice still monotonous, but his tone sharp. "Which only proves that the moles aren’t in our group."
"We sent three teams to our original docking place," Zoren remarked. "If no one’s here, then there’s going to be an ambush there."
After all, they had only changed their plans when they separated from Mint’s team. If there was an ambush there, then the moles had to be from Mint’s team. This shouldn’t be surprising, as before this all happened, Zoren had already cleansed the Phantom Circle.
It couldn’t be Penny’s men, but there were still chances. Shawn had managed to infiltrate the Prime Group.
"Let’s not worry about that for now," Atlas said. "We already told them where to meet us just in case."
Zoren nodded at him before the two of them set their eyes on Hugo. Angel and Mark, who were also with the group, turned their attention to Hugo.
Hugo drew a deep breath and nodded at them. "We’ll be assisting these two to a location safely," he ordered. "I’ll be riding with them. Keep in mind that a chase or battle might ensue during transport."
"Do what you must," he added solemnly.
But before they could start moving, the soldier who had approached them spoke. "Sir."
"What?"
"During our investigation on the island, there seems to be a lot of tension here already," the soldier reported. "There’s not only one group here—I believe. Our men already blended in with them, but we found out later that they didn’t just join one group. They ended up confronting each other, and their groups started opening fire."
"Are they fine?"
"Yes." The soldier nodded. "They managed to escape, but we suspect there are at least three groups here."
And compared to their group, those groups were quite large in numbers.
The soldiers deployed to assist here had plenty of time before this team arrived. They had gathered a lot of intel since setting foot on the island. What the soldier reported was something they had confirmed and were sure of.
"With us, there would be four," Mark chimed in, shifting his eyes to Zoren.
Now, even Hugo shifted his eyes to Zoren. Seeing this, the soldier also set his attention on Zoren.
’In my first life, this didn’t happen,’ he thought. ’This island is that group’s hive. No one would dare set foot here and expect to come out alive.’
It was the same rule the secret society had to keep itself hidden.
"We’ll continue," Zoren remarked after a brief pause. "I had prepared a sketch earlier."
He then cast a look at Mark. "Mark."
"Yes, sir." Mark lowered his head and pulled out a folded map, spreading it between everyone.
"This is the route we’re taking," Zoren pointed at the premarked locations he had done back when they were still in the aircraft. "We’ll go straight into this place. There’s a hidden base here. It’s a hut with an underground passage that leads to an underground society, and then, a mansion in this location."
The soldier furrowed his brows. "Why don’t we just go straight to the mansion?"
"Because if there are already other forces here, the mansion is heavily secured," Zoren explained. "And the others who came to that location would have already gone that route."
"We plan to reach the place as soon as possible without confronting anyone," Hugo added. "So, avoiding any confrontation is our best option right now."
Everyone nodded in understanding, exchanging glances.
"We’ve prepared a truck," said the soldier. "We got it from the guys who got into the confrontation and were wiped out. We can use it."
He paused and then glanced at everyone. "But some of you might want to change clothes."
"Change clothes?" Angel asked.
"Yes." The soldier nodded. "From what we’ve seen, those who were just wearing civilian clothes and those with black uniforms and full gear are from different groups. It’s better if we choose one. From what we’ve seen so far, those in civilian clothing are more terrifying than those in full gear." freёnovelkiss-com
It was strange, because one would think that those not in full gear were amateurs. However, from what they had seen, it was actually the opposite.
Zoren nodded. "I agree with him."
After all, those who were waiting for the code weren’t just fighters. They had made a society on this island, living their everyday life just like everybody else, but every single one of them was an expert in weapons—men, women, elderly, and children.
"I’ll let everyone know," Mark remarked, already striding off to gather his men for their next plan.
Angel assisted him with the Prime Group’s elites, briefing them on their next phase. After all, they had been improvising because of suspected moles and information leaks. Hence, they had been chopping up their plans.
And just like that, once everyone managed to tear their clothes or flip their shirts to look more casual, they hit the road once more.
