Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 278 - 272 Co-sleeping (Sixteen)
Ji Chicheng quickly replied to her, "If you miss me, I can come back right away, but if you don’t, I still have some things to take care of. I’ll return after dealing with them."
What did he mean by ’if she missed him’, ’if she didn’t’...
Ji Anning frowned, clearly, he was doing it on purpose, forcing her to choose, to say she missed him.
As she stewed in annoyance, Ji Chicheng sent another message.
"I’m training your thick skin. You can be reserved with others, but with me, you can be a bit more unrestrained."
Spit blood!
Speechless, Ji Anning rolled her eyes at Ji Chicheng’s message and then quickly drafted a reply, "Not that I miss you much. Finish your business first then come back, otherwise you’ll just have to leave again."
Not missing him much was just lip service, but what followed was sincere.
It’d be better for him to handle his affairs in one go and come back for good, rather than having a brief reunion only to part again soon after.
"OK, got it."
That was all Ji Chicheng wrote back, and there was no more to follow.
After waiting a while, Ji Anning put away her phone too and looked over at her father. A game of chess had ended, and the group of old men and women were hotly debating which move had been the misstep and what should have been played instead.
Her father sat in a wheelchair, amidst them, unable to join the conversation and looking frail.
She quickly got up, walked behind her father, grabbed the handles of the wheelchair, and began to push him away, nodding and smiling at the others as she passed.
"That Old Zhang is so dumb, he clearly made the wrong move, and he still won’t admit it."
As Ji Anning pushed her father for a short distance, he suddenly spoke up, criticizing the person from the chess game.
Ji Anning found her father’s indignant demeanor rather amusing. She shook her head and didn’t pick up the conversation.
The weather in C City had been changing dramatically these days; people had suddenly taken to wearing heavy sweaters. Even though it was now noon and the sun was shining brightly, it was still very cold, with a slight breeze that felt chilling against the skin.
Her father couldn’t withstand the cold, so Ji Anning pushed him towards the area where they lived.
"Miss Anning."
Suddenly, someone called out to her ahead. That... was how the Ji Family’s servants addressed her. Ji Anning looked up in surprise and peered forward.
A tall, thin middle-aged man approached her, and she recognized him at a glance as the family patriarch’s driver.
’In a few days, I’ll send for you...’
Ji Anning recalled the family patriarch saying he would send for her when he left that day; so, this must be the person his patriarch sent for her, right?
As these thoughts crossed her mind, the middle-aged man had already reached her. She smiled politely at him, "Uncle Chen."
The middle-aged man nodded back at her, "Miss Anning, the chairman has sent me to pick you up."
Ji Anning was not surprised. She nodded at the middle-aged man and let out an ’Oh’, then turned her head to look at her parents, at her mother’s graying hair, at her father sitting in the wheelchair, gaunt and frail.
In her heart, there were a million reluctances.
But she needed to continue her studies and be with Ji Chicheng, so the Ji Family, she inevitably had to return to.
Seeing Ji Anning’s reluctance, her mother comforted her, "Anning, you’ve been back for so long, go on, you have to go to school. You can come back some other time."
Though how long that ’some other time’ would be was anyone’s guess.
"Where is Jiajia going?"
Her father at her side, still unaware of the full situation, only caught that Ji Anning was leaving; he looked up at her, slightly anxious.
He reached out his thin, aged hand and gripped Ji Anning’s wrist as if afraid she’d run away.
